Everytime we stay overnight in the city we stay midtown.

I am trying to book a quick last minute with my daughter and am thinking she might like what I liked at her age- the village. The street fairs, the cool stores ect. So not totally downtown but more downtown than midtown

I was wondering if there are any good hotels down there? That would be good for me and my young teen daughter? So safe area.

Any ideas???

I would stick with midtown for the hotels and just make your way to The Village. The trouble with Downtown is it's eerily dead when the people who work in NYC clear out after 5 and on weekends. Even the hotels downtown are dominated by businesspeople who clear out as soon as they can. The more people around the safer you are. Midtown is always bustling which is a very good thing as far as The City is concerned, all the hotels have doormen AND NYPD is very, very visibly present in the area. Nothing says safe to me more then a man in blue on every corner. I LOVE NYC, absolutely adore The Village and go all the time but I wouldn't go the way you are suggesting. JMO

Both the Soho Grand and the Tribeca Grand are nice, but we got more sleep at the Tribeca because of the 8 story atrium with the bar in the lobby at the Soho.

This isn't really true. Greenwich Village is primarily residential. Not a lot of people work there. The Chelsea Hotel is particularly fun and interesting.

Also, the Downtown Marriott is very nice, and has spectacular views. While it is in the FiDi (financial district), there are many, many people out and about who live in Battery Park, and there's a thriving nightlife area along the Hudson.

Soho is definitely residential - we live down there and our street is super quiet, family oriented, and has tons of cute little food places. TONS of people at night - NYU is there!

You could look into 60 Thompson, Soho Grand, Mercer Hotel, etc. Super safe to walk around and definitely "sceney." An easy walk to the west village, too. She will love it!

oh you are very lucky. Dream one day of living in the city again.
I was so sad to see that Aggie's on MacDougal has closed. We loved that place. I am thinking of going to Joe's Shanghi down on Pell.
There also was a place somewhere near alphabet city I think- around 9th street I think where they had a tiny little "garden" casual dining kind of place set on a side street. Does that sound like anyplace you know?? Very vague I know. But if it's still around I would love to go.

And Cowgirl Hall of fame used to be fun. Is it still?

Oh and on CUPCAKES!! I love Billy's but was thinking of doing a cupcake tour kind of thing with her. *magnolia, crumbs, any other must tries.

OK last ? Is there still that street fair type thing in the alley on 2nd Avenue? I think that's where it was. Every saturday. Funky kind of flea market.
