So we're traveling with a group of 6 others during the holidays and all 11 of us have a dinner reservation for Chef Mickey's on 1/1 for the New Year's Day Dinner. The youngest in our group will be turning 5 on 1/5, but we'll be home by then. Question is has anyone ever done this dinner there and is it too hectic to order a birthday cake? It's the last dinner we'll all be eating together before we leave on the 3rd, so I was thinking it'd be fun for her. Looking for thoughts, suggestions, etc.

Thanks!

It is pretty easy to order a custom cake (there is a whole thread here about it). I would contact them now and see if they will take the order and the follow up. Podium cakes are pretty cheap but then depending on what you want (custom, fondant, butter cream only, etc) the price can start to add up. The team does a phenomenal job though. Since dessert is included in the buffet you could probably save money by just buying a small cake for people to have a taste and eat the desserts from the buffet as well.

Read through the Cake Chatter thread on this board. The first couple of pages will give you the details, but then read the last 5-10 pages of the thread to see what people are learning most recently. We ordered a 6" cake for DD's birthday (at Jiko, through the AKL bakery team) and it was MORE than enough for the 3 of us; we ate it all week. It sure was delicious!

Just saw you are eating at Chef Mickey's so you'll end up using the Contemporary pastry team. I think they make the most amazing cakes on property!

boy..... this cake chatter thread will take days to get through! love all the info
