I just looked up airfair and noticed that the price of NWA has dropped a lot, back in Feb., we booked with spirit for $494, now I've noticed that with NWA we can get a similar flight time for $80 less, we were planning on going to Vegas in the Winter so we could just use our vouchers from Spirit for that right? As long as we do it before 30 days from our flight time there is no penalty. Is it worth our while or should we just stay with Spirit?

I don't know anything about Spirit, but if you have a chance to save some money, look into the rules and see if it's actually worth it.

Does Spirit give you credit or just refund your money? Do they keep any of your money as part of a fee if you cancel?

Just make sure you understand the rules and if it looks good to you, then give it a try.

I prefer Northwest to Spirit. I've flown on Spirit a few times, and was just generally not impressed. Espicially if the Northwest flight is actually cheaper, then there's really no reason to go with Spirit.
