nwa.com is officially gone

I knew it was coming, but now it's here. I went o nwa.com today to do my daily flight check and was redirected to delta.com

Why, oh why, did they keep the website that sucks rocks?

nwa.com had way more functionality and was way more user friendly.

I'll get used to it; no choice.

Just had to get my therapeutic witching off my chest.

I'm glad I'm not the only paranoid Daily flight checker on the board.
My flights have been changed so many times this year, now that I've finally figured out the correct confirm code, I'm glad they redirect/change the web sites for me.
At this point I'm not sure if I'm supposed to go to the Delta or Northwest terminal.

I did my daily check today also and am in mourning for my beloved nwa.com!! I have to really check out Delta's site, but the first thing I noticed was it didn't seem you could do a check for non-stop flights only. I may have missed it though and will look at it more closely tomorrow.

I also preferred the functionality at nwa.com over delta.com. It just seemed so much more intuitive.

Plus when they migrated my ticket over, they put my first name in as "Jenniferl" instead of "Jennifer". (L is the first letter of my middle name.) Delta customer service assures me it will be fine and I won't have any problems at security. I'm not so sure and I've sent the TSA an email to make sure!

Alas, poor NWA, you shall be missed!

They did the same to my reservations (middle initial at the end of first name). I think Northwest did that too - at least the last time I flew in December it was like that.

They actually wanted to keep the NWA website and get rid of the Delta website. The decision was actually made to keep NWA. However the back-end system Delta uses is old and out dated. It wold have been near impossible and cost prohibitive to link the NWA site (and its better features) to the Delta back-end. So they were forced to reverse the decision and scrap the NWA site and move everything to delta.com

Delta wants to re-write their back end system but given the sheer cost to do so I cannot see them even starting that task for at least 7 years.

I hear ya! Gone are the days of being able to check 3+/- days around your date, or being able to see your fare with all taxes and fees added without having to click through to the next page.

Okay, while I'm not familiar with the NWA site, and my airline of choice is JetBlue, checking the Delta website I found that (a) while it's true you can't check 3+/- days, you can check one day in each direction; and (b) that the page on which you make your flight selection, Delta absolutely does provide full pricing information:

Right. Delta's site gives you ALL flight options on one page. If no nonstop flight comes up, it's because none exist.

While nwa.com was more user friendly, delta.com's alerts and updates were much more usable (if you sign up for them). I also found Delta's mobile solution for Blackberry's to work much better at times (some of that could have been Delta's disinvestment in nwa.com over the last year).

Also, Delta gives you much more flight scheduling choices if you pick Schedule not Price as the driver for flight options.

Just my $.02 of course.
