Nutty iPad photographers.

I like to travel light while in the parks, often only taking what fits in my pocket. No way would I want to carry an Ipad around. On our last trip in February there was a woman in the boat in front of us on IASW standing up in the boat taking pictures with an Ipad. I was secretly hoping she would drop it in the water. It is so annoying when you are on a ride or trying to watch a show and all these Ipads are in the air taking video or pics. I just don't get it.

People who use their iPads as cameras are complete and total dorks. Not geeks or nerds, because those people are really smart and wouldn't be caught dead with an iPad held over their heads.

I can remember the days when the technologically minded folks had those huge videocameras (the kind that held an entire VHS tape). Those were way bigger than an Ipad, for obstructing views.

Ooooh . . .I think I still have one of those tucked in the back of my closet. I wonder if it still works, lol! I think I even have some blank VHS tapes .

I try to be considerate of everyone around me, even when just using my DSLR camera. It has a feature that turns off the screen when you look through the viewfinder, so I keep it close to me in darker rides to minimize screen glow. I always have my camera set not to flash, and because I'm using my viewfinder, I'm not holding the camera out in anyone's way.

However, I do occasionally use my iPod Touch camera to take photos (if I don't feel like carrying the regular camera) and I try to do likewise with the iPod. If I am taking a photo or video, I try to keep the iPod as close to me as possible (those outstretched arms can lead to a lot of camera shake as well).

I am sure there are a few people that only have the iPad camera with them, but it doesn't take a lot of time or effort to be considerate of others when using it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the rear view. I was surprised that there wasn't an announcement, obviously nobody was watching the monitor.

iPads cost more than iPhones/iPods

In the long run a wi-fi only tablet does not cost more than an iphone/smartphone with an expensive voice and data plan.

What worked for me when I was behind an iPad offender at The Lion King in AK, was taking a digital photo of what I was seeing, and showing it to the guy. He put the thing away. Donna

This is fantastic! I may try it.

If you can afford an iPad, you can afford a digital camera that fits in your pocket. Seriously, you can get an ridiculously high megapixel camera for under $100 nowadays. Using an iPad, because you can't afford an iPhone is a lame excuse.

Sometimes I take my iPad Mini into the park but I don't use it to take pictures. I have my iPhone for that. I really don't understand people who rely on the iPad as a primary camera.

I couldn't stand it one time and I finally asked a lady why she took pictures with her ipad. She just glowed and got so excited and said that the pictures just look so beautiful on it. She just loved how the pictures looked.

OK. So I left it there. But I was thinking, "don't people know they can just put the pictures on there."

But you know, apple makes it such a pain to move files around, you can't just pop in an sd card, I can sort of understand it.

I saw a woman trying to take pictures in front of gastons with hers ds and I had a laugh about it he asked me why would you carry that all day when your phone or camera fits in your pocket..... To each his own I guess but that wouldn't work for us!

The IPad thing is just strange...but I was watching Wishes recently and there was a couple in front of me at the railing shooting the show on a camera on a tripod which was in the grass on the other side of the railing...ok...no harm...no foul...but then towards the halfway point he decided to hold the camera UP by the base of the pole right in everyone's view behind him and film it that way...basically blocking everyones shot with his little camera on a tripod (which would show up in all the photos or filmings)...
At least when you encounter some rude guests it can work out better for you:
The CM's taped off the area to stand in to watch Wishes and we showed up and stepped into the taped area (with a bit of space next to us to the right) and the lady at the railing turned and said real snarky "Just so you know, we have family coming for the fireworks and they're gonna be standing right here and you won't be able to see because they're really tall"...it wasn't what she said...it was how she said it...lol
So we moved right and watched it...better view...lol

Last time I watched the fireworks at MK a young girl pulled out her phone as the fireworks started and began recording. No big deal except she has a bright light on. The phone was right next to my ear! I said "are you going to video the whole show?" She said "yes". I held my hand up in front of her camera and said "No, you can't shine that light in my face." Guess I was tired. I had reached my limit in rude for the day. Lol
She put her phone away.

I don't have a smartphone. Why? I save $100 a month for me and my husband on something that is relatively frivolous. Buying an iPad refurbed cost me less than 3 months and for most of the stuff I do I don't desire a small screen size. At Disney now you need something with WiFi capabilities so I need mine in the parks. I don't often use it for filming or pics but for a short trip in the parks where I don't want my hand me down dslr it works. I don't feel this is as bad as people who walk around the parks not paying attention to the environment for enjoyment or for being in other peoples way, etc. like you see with people on a smart phone.

Those camcorders were put on shoulders and you used a viewfinder up to your eye, while the unit was bigger than an ipad the camera was held close/on the body obstructing the portion of your shoulder width to your head . iPads and today's LCD view screen cameras everyone is holding out at arms length to get a shot which obstructs a larger view.

It would be nice if there was a "viewfinder mode" where the view was tiny and you had to bring the ipad close to your eye to get the picture, thus causing the obstruction of everyone else's view to the persons head

I staked out a spot for Wishes over an hour in advance last time we were there. We were over by the railing in front of Crystal Palace. At the last minute someone came up behind me and put his video camera right beside my head and proceeded to start videoing the fireworks. With the video light ON! It was right next to my eye! And I couldn't move ahead to escape it since we were right at the railing. I put my hand in front of it, mere inches from my eyeball and just shook my head no. A minute later he started again, so I did the same thing. It was beyond rude.

Never mind that lighting is not needed to tape fireworks any more than a flash is needed with a still camera.

I don't care what anyone's reasons are. Take whatever you like. Take your desktop computer from home for all I care. Just don't hold it over your head to take photos in a crowd (blocking a large part of the field of view for someone) and it will all be good.

I find moving pics easy. If you have icloud setup it does it for you. I have an iPhone and iPad. I leave the iPad at the hotel but when I get back the pictures from my iPhone are already there via the cloud.

But camera wise as a shutterbug I've upgraded to using an actual camera for pictures. Found a nice wifi enabled one to move pictures wirelessly and then still have em on the SD card to move me to a PC at home.

The iPad as camera thing has gotten worse in recent years. I feel phone vs camera is so similar in size that it makes little difference. Until recently with the Notes. The bigger the screen the more irritating the experience if you're behind them for a show, parade, fireworks etc.

I honestly do not understand the iPad photographers! Do you not realize you look ridiculous? Why would you want to carry that thing around the parks with you all day? They are heavy! And if you have an iPad, I'm sure you've got a phone or at least a camera, so why? And I have an iPad and it takes awful pictures.

They probably just want us to see them and think "that person must be awesome, they have an iPad".

And I agree with that - but that's a general consideration towards other people. Last week at my daughters preschool concert I couldn't take any pictures of her because of all the people who decided they could come and kneel in the aisle and tape their kids with their iPhones or smartphones. Or the people in the rows ahead of me sticking their cameras out in the aisle. I wouldn't do that because I know the people behind me couldn't see then. So therefore being inconsiderate is the problem, not necessarily using an iPad. I am pretty sure this can be said of anyone with a camera. Taking selfies would be an example of it doesn't matter what you are using, you can still be in someone else's way. To be frustrated with someone is one thing, but to insult all people who do something as "tools" or to say "I hoped she would fall into the lake" ... really? One person on here did something about it - the rest just insult them when they aren't around. Isn't that exactly what we should be teaching our kids not to do?

There are adapters for connecting a digital camera to an iPad as well as a card reader that attaches to an iPad. Not a pain to use, just something else to keep track of.
