A crazy idea popped into my head. How about we take my wife's family and plan a big trip in a GV. We would have

1) Mom & Dad

2) #1 Daughter and husband

3) #2 Daughter, husband and kid (age 5)

4) #1 Son, wife and kid (age 5)

5) #2 Son (age 29)

6) #3 Son (age 19, special needs)

That's 12 - prefect for a GV, no? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

At least it will have full size fridge to hold all of the alcohol you will need to drink!! :drinking1 :drinking:

It does sound like a lot of people.

Think about the configuration of the GV. It can work for some groups of 12, but definitely not all. We are hoping to do the same thing next year with twelve. Here's our configuration....

Mom and Dad in the Master bedroom
Daughter 1 plus husband and two kids in one bedroom
Daughter 2 plus husband and two kids in other bedroom
Daughter 3 and husband on pull out

Even given the space in the GV, this will still be cramped, I think. We are there for a week, but won't do the GV for that whole time. We are in two-bedrooms for half the week and then four nights in the GV. I just thought that we shouldn't be all together the entire week or no one will be left standing !!! We get along well, but the grandkids are two teenagers and two little ones. Not on the same page at all. Plus, we (daughter 1 and teen agers) are the only family who regularly goes to WDW.

We have travelled together before but always try to make sure that each family has alone time. Otherwise....not good...

Family trips are great but organizing and getting everyone on board can be frustrating. You mean well, but they just don't understand your need to 'firm things up'

Good luck !

We always get a GV and have a whole group. We all just do our own thing and come and go as wanted. We are headed down in May and plan to do just that! Love the whole family together!!!!

It would really depend on if you all get along or not! I know that all of my family in one location for a week would drive us all mad!

But then again, those GV are just for large gatherings, right? I say ENJOY! :goodvibes

God Bless You if you do that! I know I would owe DH for the rest of our life together if we did that!!!

Funny we have just about the same set up for our next trip and have been going back an forth on putting 12 in the GV.
The only issue I have is using the pull out in the living room. The idea of getting a GV is to have the room to have everyone hang out together/have a big family dinner.
So I'm thinking it would be kind of a bummer for the folks stuck on the living room couch.
I think the idea for us is to put 10 in the GV and then get a studio for us or Mom and Dad. That way everyone has a bedroom to go hide in when they want plus all the common space to be together.:thumbsup2

We have done it with 11 and 12 a couple of times, and it's not that bad. As long as the group of people all get along and you set guidelines ahead of time, it wont be a problem. At OKW the bathroom in the hall for the folks in the living room is very convenient, and when not being used by the living room people, is a great "second shower" for those staying in the other rooms. Last time in a GV at OKW, we had 12, and that hall shower was going constantly in the mornings! There were 5 kids in the bedrooms upstairs, so that extra shower came in handy.

The issue I see is that there are not enough bedrooms for each family unit so you'll have to figure out who is sharing bedrooms and beds. Make sure everyone has a clear understanding of the sleeping and bedroom sharing arrangements.

We are doing it in August
Cast:
Me & DH
DD (21) & Boyfriend (25)
DS (18) & 6 friends (18) and yes we added one more on:scared1: They will have the larger of the rooms upstairs and we have airbeds and the sleeper couch for them to use.

I will kill them if they ruin my vacation!!!:headache:

I did a family gathering for 12 last December and we did two 2-bedroom villas instead. We wanted the bathrooms as well as the extra bedrooms

Villa #1
Mom and dad had the studio portion
Daugther #1 and DH had the master bedroom, kids on the couch in the living room

Villa #2
Son #1 and DW (me) in the studio
Son#2 and DW on the couch in the living room
Daughter #2 and DH in the master bedroom

I actually chose to stay in the studio portion so we'd have our own bathroom and more privacy. I was happy to give DH's sister and BIL the master bedroom for that trip.
