nutrition shakes?

Drop it and believe it's all you doing it because it is. If the shake has any benefit whatsoever it's that it's helping keep your calorie count under control. That's it. So have a look at the nutrition label, find out how many calories are in it and replace it with something with like calories. Cash saved.
There's the ease factor as well. I have my shake on my way and during the beginning of my work day. Without it, I don't get a chance to eat til 9:00 am, and I leave my house at 6:15 am. By then I'm ravenous and it's not a good thing. I can grab a sip here and there while working, can't really do that with actual food. I'm "this" close to dropping the Shakeology and just doing the Ideal (half the price), so I may do that. We shall see. :)

There are many protein shakes out there that aren't nearly as expensive. I use Quest to "break my fast" in the morning and after hard workouts. A 2lb tub is $33 and lasts me a couple months. Add a shaker bottle for $5 and Almond Milk (makes it more creamy) at $4 every two weeks and you'd save a ton. If convenience is your thing, that's cool but but Shakology and the like aren't keeping you thin, YOU are doing that. I'm just saying give yourself some credit.

I will preface by saying that I have multiple severe food allergies that make eating a "properly" balanced diet challenging, or, well, impossible. One of my allergies is to milk, which knocks out an entire food group.

A few years ago I went to see a dietician. She recommended I make a protein smoothie for my breakfast most mornings as a way of ensuring I got a good chunk of protein for breakfast and upped my fruit intake (I tried adding veggies to the smoothie, and yeah, not happening for me...).

Since I can't have whey-based protein (which I find the good ones taste the best in that it has no taste and no texture), It took some experimenting to find a protein powder I actually like. Right now I alternate between two: Bluebonnet's Super Earth® Organic Veggie Protein, and Metagenic's Ultrameal Rice. Both brands come in a few different flavours (think variations of chocolate and vanilla) and have a mix of vitamins and minerals added as well.

I have a Nutri Ninja smoothie blender in which I mix:

- 1 scoop protein powder of choice
- 1 fresh banana
- 1/2 cup +/- frozen sliced strawberries (fresh ones can be used too; but there is no spoilage and they are yearround with the frozen ones)
- non-dairy "milk" to fill rest of blender cup (unsweetened/unflavoured flax, soy, or coconut milk; I switch them up from time to time)
- optional: scoop of ground flax meal

I drink it while getting ready in the morning, and it is the "drink" I use to drink my morning medication (which means I don't have to drink 12 oz juice to take them).

Within a few hours I am hungry again, but it gets me to lunchtime.

By my calculation it is ~350 calories.

I use quest as well. Love the vanilla and chocolate. I use unsweetened cashew milk. I use about 1 1/2 cups of milk with a level scoop of powder. That makes a shake for under 150 calories.

It fills me up for a long time. I sometimes have a 2nd one in the evening when I'm feeling snacky.

I like to mix half a scoop chocolate and half peanut butter or add a tablespoon of cocoa powder to the peanut butter.

I'm sorry, but every time someone talks about these things I'm just reminded about South Park's Weight Gain 4000 and crack up!

My therapist swears by protein shakes. Because she keeps pressuring me, I've tried several different kinds but they're all icky. I've tried vegan, dairy-based, hemp, soy, and I can't think what else right now. I don't recommend them and they don't seem to do anything for me so my advice is: don't waste your money.
