Has anybody tried this diet plan? I am thinking about it but was wondering how the food tastes and does it really work...

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Kathy

I tried it after I had my DS (months later after he was weened). I wouldn't spend the money on it again. I'd do WW or something like that where you can choose your own food, prepared the way you like it.
The NS food was.....interesting. Actually, entertaining is the word. It's pretty much about portion control, and the portions were, at time, rather humorous. DH and I would sit at the oven and laugh and laugh at the "pizza". Pretty funny.

Anyway, I wouldn't suggest it. Just my opinion.

Good luck!

The food is horrible. Think of just about everything tasting like canned pasta. I wouldn't waste the money on it.

I had a friend that ordered it and tried to do it, but ended up returning most of the food. The few things I tasted, which were desserts, were pretty bad. The food is all canned/vacuumed packed, not fresh frozen like Weight Watcher or Jenny Craig entrees. It has to be chocked full of preservatives to be able to sustain that unrefrigerated state. :crazy2: The hot dog and bun in a bag was probably the most unappetizing thing I had ever seen.

I started NutriSystem about a month and a half ago. I've lost 12 pounds (my goal is to lose around 40 pounds). My husband started about a month ago and he's lost 20 pounds.

The diet is extremely easy to follow. Your order includes pre-packaged breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks. Nothing has to be refrigerated and most everything cooks in the microwave. The diet is a little different depending on if you're a man or a woman, but, essentially, you can supplement with salads, vegetables, non-fat milk and yogurt, and a few other things. (The information from NutriSystem explains it in detail. I'm trying to be very strict, so I don't supplement much, except for salads.)

What appealed to me about NutriSystem is the fact that the food is already made for you. I believe the premise for NutriSystem has to do with the glycemic index, which I also believe is the premise behind The South Beach Diet. (Don't hold me to this -- in my "old age" I sometimes have a tendency to think I know what I'm talking about, when I don't.) Regardless, my experience has been -- hand me a diet book, or hand me a sheet of paper with a diet on it and I'm doomed because I'm not disciplined enough to plan meals, grocery shop according to plan, etc. That's what is so nice about the pre-packaged food delivery. It doesn't require a whole lot of planning or thinking.

About the food -- I've found only a few things that I thought were nasty. Most everything is good, some things are actually very good. Portion sizes are small -- but that's compared to what I'm accustomed to eating, which is why I need to lose 40 pounds in the first place. Having said that, there are days when I don't eat all of the NutriSystem food that I'm supposed to. This probably comes from the change in eating habits -- but I believe I would have lost more weight than I have if I had eaten everything I should have eaten. (You know they say if you don't eat enough, your body hangs onto fat because it's afraid you're going to starve it.)

You can go online every month before your shipment date (you get a reminder email from NutriSystem) and change your order, so if you find there are things you don't like, you just delete them and replace them with something else. It really couldn't be easier. Another nice thing about the diet is they have counselors you can call at any time if you have questions. And, out of the blue, a counselor called me after my first month on the diet just to see how things were going for me.

If you have anymore questions that I might be able to answer for you, I'll be glad to do that. I have struggled and struggled with losing weight, and I finally feel like I've found something that works for me. Unfortunately and/or fortunately, I'm on my way to Walt Disney World in nine days and there's no way I'm going to adhere to this diet while I'm there. I may be a little more conscientious about what I eat, but I am so looking forward to dining at some of my favorite Disney restaurants. Hopefully the walking that I'll do will help some and I won't gain all 12 pounds back.

Debbie

Thanks everyone for the info...

DebbieW. congratulations to you and your hubby on the loss..that's great!!

I need to lose about 40lbs myself and I was hoping this might help me.

Now, I just need to decide, my cheap side is coming out when I look at the price, but my husband says we would save that much by not eating out as often as we do.

decisions...decisions...

I have a friend who did Nutrisystem about 10 years ago. She ended up with horrible kidney and gall bladder problems. After doing some research she found several other people had experienced the same type of problems after doing Nutrisystem. Since that was so long ago, I don't know if people are still having the same issues.

I did Jenny Craig and had some success. The food was good, but once I was left on my own to figure out my meals, I failed.

What has worked for me is ediets.com. I lost 90 lbs and have kept of 70 of it for 2 years now. I've recently gotten more disciplined and plan to take off that 20lbs that found me again. I was even featured as a success story. Go to ediets.com, click on success stories, then search for monica g

ediets has several plans that you can choose from. I did the ediets plan which is your basic low fat, low calorie. Instead of Nutrisystem or jenny craig that give you food already portioned out, ediets gives you recipes and you make your own food. Each recipe is one serving, so you eat everything that you make. This really helped me figure out portions. You check in each week, report your weight, select your weekly meal plan (very flexible). Then print your shopping list and you're all set.

Every 3-4 years I do Nutrisystem to get rid of the 10 lbs that seems to creep up on me. My opinion is exactly like Debbie's. The food is decent, and I need someone to lay out exactly what I get to eat. I just ordered a month's worth of food a few days ago, so I'll be starting it soon.
