I interviewed for a different position at the hospital. I interviewed with the manager and today I heard back from her that the all the interviews were good, and she was unable to make a decision, so she is moving forward with a second step interview: a panel of nurses from the department will develop questions and ask us the questions. They will assign points to our answers and I guess the one with higher points gets the job.

I work in surgery and this position is for the ambulatory care center. We work alot with the nurses over there, so they know us. (I can deduce that at least 1-2 other applicants are also from surgery - there are a total of 4 applicants)

anyway, I am just wondering if you might have any guesses what questions might be asked on a nursing panel interview?

Any responses would be appreciated as I am brushing up on my interview skills, and reviewing possible questions.

thanks!

They do this where I work. It's called a peer interview there.

One of the questions I like to ask when I am doing it is "Tell me about an unusual or critical situation you were involved in as a nurse and how you handled it".

one thing they often ask at our hospital is: what can you bring to our department?

I am in HR and currently back in school to finish my HR degree. Although these may not apply to nursing, interview questions are changing and the basis..what do you do for fun...questions are going away:

Interview questions answers
Here are some other common interview questions that come from the more "progressive school" of interviewing. As you can see, they require some thought and the answers are difficult to prepare for in advance:

6- Give me an example of a time when you made a mistake. What was it and what were the repercussions resulting from it?

7- Give me an example of a time when you had a great idea. What was the idea and how did you go about "selling" it to your boss?

8- Give me an example of a time when your ethics were tested. What was the situation and what did you do?

9- Tell me about a time when you had multiple deadlines and felt like you could not get everything done. What was the situation and how did you handle it?
Points to remember
• Prepare your answers in advance of the interview. Even though you can't know what you will be asked, you can take some time and reflect on what you have done and what you have to offer.

• Tell the truth.

• Relate your answers to the job for which you are applying.

• Don't "slam" your past employers or bosses.

• Take your time when thinking of answers. This isn't a race.

• Speak clearly and deliberately.

"how do you handle conflict" or the most basic "why should you get the position"? They may ask a customer service oriented question, or the classic strengths and weaknesses!

Try to weave what you know about the values and culture of the specific unit into your answers.
