OK, I just signed up for your site and love it! I do have a question about the nursery and kids club on the cruise line. We will be sailing with our two children 10 & 2. My two year old is almost completely potty trained ( should be completely by the time we sail) I was looking at the picture of the nursery, and I think he will be completely bored there. Does anyone know if they allow potty trained kids to go into the kids club even though they are not yet three? I do daycare, therfore my son plays really well with older kids. Our travel agent said she thinks they would allow him to play in there, if we stayed with him. Any advise? Thanks in advance!

I have seen several posts from parents who were allowed to place their children with an older group on a trial basis while a parent was present to see how it went...after that...??

When you get on the ship, go to the club & talk to the manager. The main criteria for the OC is the PT.

Potty trained or not, your son will definitely be allowed to play in the club if you stay with him. We did that with our 19-month-old non-PT son last month - he even went down the slide a few times (we were at the bottom and there's a counselor at the top keeping an eye on things).

From reading other posts, it seems that the club is quite willing to let younger kids in on a trial basis, so be sure to check with them and mention your concerns.

Our DS went to Flounders twice during our cruise. He was fine there, enjoyed playing with various toys. I do think the toys are geared to younger ones, and your 2-yr-old would quite likely find them boring. We saw that the older ones were mostly in front of the TV whenever we went to drop off/pick up our son.

Check your Navigator to see when Flounders is open for drop-in visits. That way you can go with your son and see for yourself whether the nursery would suit him. We did this with our son a few times, and I think it helped that he was already somewhat familiar with the place before we dropped him off for babysitting.

I would just make sure you are comfortable with your 2 year old being in with almost 5 year olds (like mine will be). The concern I would have is that when on the playground at our preschool, we don't let the 2s out with the 3s and 4s (some already 5) if possible as four and five year olds sometimes are unaware that they are trampling the 2 year olds when they are on the move and having fun. I think during structured time this would not be a problem, but I would worry about unstructured time. We have many teachers on the playground, but if you aren't right there, all you can do is watch as a little one get mowed over. Just a thought. Might want to make sure the structured activites are something your child will be interested in.

Thanks for all the input. I have older kids in my daycare, and my son keeps up pretty well with them. Maybe we will stay with him and see how he does first. :)

We just returned from the 7 day, Feb 26th Magic. My daughter who is 2 yrs 8 months and completely potty trained was allowed to go into the Oceaners Club. She had a sister in their who was 4. There were many people with younger children than 3 in there, but I think mine was CLOSE to the youngest. Jill, the director, was great and you would probably have to speak with her, and it would be on a trial basis to see how they do.
How I helped answer your question.

My daughter who was 2.5 yrs. was completely potty trained and was allowed in the club on a trial basis. She loved it! She liked it more then my 6 year old! She was so tiny compared to the rest of the kids. The show at the end was adorable. My dd hat fell off and a little girl helped her get it back on. The little girl had to be about 3, but it was so cute so see her "mother instinct" kick in and help the smallest one out!
