Hey guys, I need some help. I'm starting college in the Fall, and I really don't even know where to start. I attended a CC before now, so I'm technically a transfer student, but am starting from the bottom up because some things didn't transfer, and I changed my major from criminal justice and political science to anthropology.

Right now I am registered for 6 classes, 2 Anthro courses, German, a prerequisite English course, a philosophy 101, and a fencing physical education class, which comes out to 17 credits.

Does this sound like too much to anyone? I'm really nervous that it's going to be too much. At my last school I worked full time with an average of 8 credits a semester, and it was pretty tough, but that was also because I spent so much time working and having other things to attend to. I don't know how I'll handle just school and my social life, or if I'll struggle at all.

I'm also worried because some of my classes are only about 10 minutes apart, but in different buildings.

Any advice?

Its about normal my brother goes to a regular 4 year college and he had 30 this year. so 15 per semester.

I took 8 classes this semester, which was about 24 hours total. I had to get special permission from my University to be able to do it, but I can say that I survived the semester. It was the LONGEST semester of my life, but I survived. Did I get straight A's like I have other semesters? Nope, but I did pass everything. I had no social life, but managed to squeeze in one or two shifts at work a week (about 8-10 hours a week), and I also managed to stay on top of my jogging a few miles every day.

I think that if you're willing to give up some things socially and are ready to really dig in and do some hard work, you should be fine! It might take a great deal of adjusting, but that's what college is for. I've had semesters with 6 classes before. It's a lot of work, but I was still able to have a decent social life except for near midterms and finals time. My biggest advice is to find a way to help organize yourself and stay on top of making sure you put every due date, test day, appointment, and important events in a calendar. I would've been lost without my planner.

Oh, and as far as the 10 minutes between classes go, all of mine had 10 minutes in between and quite a few I had to get from one side of the campus to the other. My best advice is to go a few weeks before class if possible and just walk the campus. Find shortcuts and the fastest paths from class A to class B.

Thanks guys! I am still a bit worried, but not as much as before. I won't have any time to explore the campus until I move in, but I can deal with that. I've actually never even been there, so hopefully the campus isn't as huge as I imagine :rotfl:

I do have a worry about lacking in social life. I've always been that nerdy kid who studies all day and night, and didn't go out and enjoy high school like the rest. I really want to enjoy college! :goodvibes

If you want to have more time to socialize and do the events and maybe some clubs offered on campus, I'd recommend only taking the minimal amount of hours that qualify as full time. At my school, it was 12 hours, which is about 4 classes. Semesters I took only 4 classes, I had a ton of free time and participated in quite a few things and had time to be busy almost every night of the week. The only downside to this is it will take you longer to finish, so you'll be at school longer. But if that isn't a problem, then definitely shift your hours down to offer yourself more free time.
