Nudity and Children

DS5 has no issues with running around stark raving nekkid at home or in front of whomever might be visiting.

But his swimtrunks got a 10" long split down the middle last week on vacation and he just about died of embarrassment. Luckily, I noticed the split as we were headed back from the beach. Everything was hanging out in the wind, so to speak. Poor kid was soooo embarrassed. I wrapped a towel around his waist so he was covered up.

My DD8 has recently become shy about being naked. This seems to have happened around the same time she decided she can shower by herself. She also hates to see me naked, she will cover her eyes and run screaming from the room. It does wonders for my self-esteem!

DD2 on the other hand, HATES nudity - she can't even tolerate bare feet. She is the only toddler I know who can't stand to be undressed! She will always yell at her sister "Don't look at my naked!!" She thinks MY nudity is hilarious however -- she pointed out to me the other day, "Mommy I see your boo-bees and they are big!" Not really true, but self-esteem UP! The next day she said to her sister (who you will remember is 8) "You have big boo-beees like Mommy." Self-esteem back DOWN! And one embarrassed sister as well.

DH has issues w/being modest....our 5 yo will take after him. It hasn't started yet, but she's a little mini-me of DH so I'm sure it will. Our DD3 though...she walks around, lifts up her shirt and says "is this my chest?" LOL she could care less.

Up until around 4 my daughter would run around the hose doing a naked streak before her bath, once she hit 5 that stopped and now at 7 when she changes her clothes she goes in the bedroom, locks the door and changes. Its ok if I am in tehre with her but no one else can be. Even going to the bathroom now she locks the door because someone might come in, same when she takes a bath.
