Saw this today and thought I would share it. I'm staying there with my family soon so will sensibly take the relevant precautions. I expect some levels of thievery are to be expected in such a large site that has so many hotels but it is always wise to prevent these things if you can by using safes and never leaving valuables unattended.

"Last July myself, my partner, 3 year old and two friends stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. Having being left some money, I wanted something which would be memorable for my son and a good chance to have some much needed fun. On arrival at the Newport Bay we found the staff very helpful, quick at check in and and friendly. The rooms were nice and spacious but were rather dated considering the price we paid (which was a hell of a lot). I never had any problems with facilities in the rooms but my friends couldn't get their safety deposit box to work but after numerous attempts by staff this was finally rectified. One point to mention is be careful not to leave anything valuable in your room on its own for any length of time. The cleaners stole my partner's trainers (not expensive, just gola) and son's pyjama bottoms (!) whilst we were visiting Paris for the day. My partner had been wearing his sandals during the day but when we arrived back in the evening the weather had turned much colder so he decided he wanted to wear his trainers which were no where to be seen. We got our friends to double check and then went down to reception. You'd think that might have been an outlandish accusation but the staff weren't in the slightest bit surprised. We spoke to the cleaning supervisor that told us to give her a couple of hours which we did to be told they were still missing. She then took us over to the Disney Park to try and buy a pair to replace them. Unfortunately for her, my partner isn't into trainers with Mickey and Minnie Mouse on them! So having come back empty handed she proceeded to take our address in UK just in case they turned up which was quite bizarre because they suddenly appeared the next day whilst we were in the park (along with the pyjama bottoms) I also stupidly left my mobile unattended in the room for 10 mins whilst the cleaners were in and guess what? it went walkies as well.
Apart from the above fiasco, the hotel was huge, had a lovely swimming pool, great access to the park and a good shop.
Whilst staying at the Disneyland, we tended to go for the buffet style restaurants at this hotel in particular. This was because my son is an extremely fussy eater, can't understand he has to wait and it was handy. The choice of food was good but I will mention that I got food poisoning on the last night so be very careful what you choose.
All in all, apart from the problems we had a great holiday. If we return, I may look at somewhere else on the site to stay in as I didn't think the hotel lived up it's price".

I'm sure this is isolated rather than common place. On a positive note there have been some recent reviews of the NPB that have been very positive, so not all bad, eh?

I've not had any problems in the NBC (or in other hotels) myself but I must admit I do worry, especially about all the purchases we collect through the stay and about the laptop which we usually lock inside a suitcase. The safes are too small to secure more than passports, wallets, phones. We have also left the laptop at reception for safe keeping but it is a bit of a nuisance queueing up to leave and retrieve it. I hadn't thought about clothes which are hung up and placed in drawers and shoes left out.

The only unpleasant experience of theft I have had was when I caught someone unzipping my rucksack during a parade. I was sat down with it beside me so luckily noticed.

I'm not putting my pyjamas in the safe :rolleyes1

If we take a laptop we'll leave it in a locked suitcase in the room. However these days I use my smartphone for 90% of my internet access so we may well not bother with the laptop.

I can say I have never had a problem in all my stays & up until recently most onsite hotels never had in room safes.

I have gone out & left things lying about & nothing had been touched. Its unfortunate that it happened to that family but I take everything written on Trip advisor with a pinch of salt, there would be nowhere to stay in the would if everything written on there is true.

I read a review a while back of someone slagging of a 5 star hotel as it served drinks in plastic cups by the pool & outside:confused3 Nothing else wrong apart form that:rolleyes:

The mobile is more understandable, but I have to admit that inexpensive trainers and some pyjama bottoms seem like very strange things for the cleaners to want to steal - especially if they were returned the next day. I'm inclined to think (particularly in the case of the pyjamas) that they might have got caught up in the laundry somehow. :confused3

I don't let it worry me too much, but wherever you are it's just worth being sensible - even in Disney! ::yes::

Have never had a problem myself, but just on the question of security, please do check that the interconnecting door is locked. I always do on leaving and entering but when we stayed at the Hotel New York, my niece opened our door when we first arrived in the room, our neighbours door was wide open, the occupants weren't in the room and obviously hadnt thought about the door or maybe a child had unlocked it, but we could have walked in and helped ourselves.

Hmmm, how strange with the trainers and the pj bottoms. :confused3

It never hurts to have a timely reminder about being careful, does it, like the other week when that lady reported something going missing when using Disney Express.

I agree with taking Trip advisor with a pinch of salt. I was checking out some hotels for next year's holiday and came across a review where someone had found someone else's undies in their bed on their first night and was incensed because obviously the bedding couldn't have been changed. Yet she didn't complain there and then (I think something like that warrants an immediate complaint even if it's in the middle of the night) but waited until she came home and wrote it on Trip Advisor??? :confused3

That's a very valid point. ::yes::

Trip advisor is full of funny ones!

Elaine, I laughed at that story - the thing is, you wouldn't just move them, climb in and then snuggle down would you :rotfl:.

I actually laughed at the NPBC review too - it just made me laugh when they said the trainers were nothing special 'just gola' - sorry I couldn't help myself . I really thought it had been put on there as a joke :confused3.

I do agree though that you can't afford to be complacent really. We always lock away anything valuable that will fit in the safe (they aren't the biggest are they!).

And yes Jill - that is a good point about the connecting doors. We had one this stay and I only checked it once at the beginning of the stay, DD2 is a horror for unlocking/moving things so I should have been more vigilant.

The PJs struck me as a bit odd aswell, but like was said its possible they got tangled up in sheets that were being changed. We never had any issues in DLP as regards thievery. DH has even been stooooooooopid enough to leave purchases on the buggy while we rode POTC and we came back to an untouched buggy.

I would always be cautious though and would put my money in the safe but besides that there wouldn't be anything of value to rob.

Saying that I wonder if reception would put my primark flannel pjs in the safe? We've shared many a cold night and I think I may just have a breakdown if we were to be separated

We have never had any problems leaving stuff in our room but I think as others have said you need to be careful and sensible wherever you go.:thumbsup2 I find it really hard to see why anyone would want a used pair of pyjamas too to be honest!

We always tend to take trip advisor reports with a pinch of salt.....if we believed half the things we read on there we would never visit anywhere :rotfl2:

We've never had any problems with anything going missing during any of our stays, on our last trip i left just over 300 euro on the bed, i had meant to put it in the safe but totally forgot.

When we returned that evening our bed had been made and the money had been placed back where i had left it :thumbsup2

I think people are always ready to blame staff rather than thinking maybe they left anything where it could be accidentally picked up:rolleyes1 DH is very tidy so we always make sure there is nothing lying where it shouldn't be (and washing goes straight into a suitcase). I also agree with TA comments - easy way for another rival hotel to bring down a popular choice;) I read many reports and go with the majority:)

I have to agree with everyone else here, never had any problems with housekeeping in all our visits.:thumbsup2 Room is always spotless and anything we've had lying about is untouched. I always make sure that valuables such as passports/money are in the safe. We're quite tidy too and all clothing goes in the suitcase. So nothing really lying about.

How interesting though that the housekeeping manager took the guests to the village to try an buy a new pair. That goes above and beyond in my book :thumbsup2

And as for trip advisor.......forget it ;)
