Now to decide...This Thanksgiving or next? WWYD?

I've been teetering back and forth on a trip this Thanksgiving, but with the announcement of Toy Story Land opening summer 2018, I'm thinking of postponing until next year. I have our tickets in hand already. I will lose a house rental deposit for this year, but it was going to be tight financially for this year-which is why I was thinking of postponing this trip. The info coming out today is pushing the pendulum toward waiting until next year. What do you think?

I think I would wait. It seems so much is closed or closing now and lots of construction (which will be ongoing, but just seems like a lot is under construction now.) Some cool things are coming up for 2018 it seems.

With everything they are promising for the 50th anniversary in 2021, there's going to be construction all over the place for the next four years. I wouldn't base a decision on closures and construction or you won't be going for at least four years.

What kind of tickets? Most tickets now expire at some point. You can still use the purchase price toward buying current tickets if yours do expire and you choose to go next year, but it might be something to consider.

Yes, construction will be the norm, but it just seems like right now there is a ton. It should taper off as things get completed and open (TSL in 2018, gondolas, CBR etc.) But right now it seems tons of stuff is closing and being rebuilt. I would wait, if given the choice, until a few more new things are completed.

I would wait. We are doing Universal this year. We are waiting until TSL is open. We may even wait until Star Wars Land is finished too.

The tickets have an expiration date of December 2018...
Can you apply the cost of your tickets to new tickets? I thought I read that somewhere. So you wouldn't lose the tickets if you went after they expire, you would just have pay what the ticket price increase was. I'd look into it, FYI, if you think you might be delayed even more.

I believe so...at least that is what I read...

From the Mouse himself:
Q: I purchased theme park tickets years ago and never used them. Are they still valid?
A:
Walt Disney World Resort continues to honor all unexpired theme park tickets with remaining admission days.

The FAQ goes on to discuss the No Expiration Option that Disney once offered.
However, be aware that unless you purchased the No Expiration Option, theme park tickets purchased after 2004 expire 14 days after their first use. While the No Expiration Option is no longer available, if you have previously purchased theme park tickets with the No Expiration Option, your tickets will still be honored. https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/tickets/converting-old-tickets/

What is not abundantly apparent in Disney's carefully worded policy, is that Disney has TWO policies on unused tickets. One for completely unused tickets (will only honor these if before the ticket's expiration date -or- If purchased with the No Expiration Option), and another for partially used tickets (will honor these if purchased with the No Expiration Option).
The OP's predicament concerns his completely unused park tickets. For questions on specific tickets, he can also call 407/939-1289.
For a discussion on partially-used tickets, see the thread "Partially Used Tickets vs No Expiration Option".

Edit: Updated the "completely unused tickets" above to exclude unused tickets past their expiration date.

My tickets have an expiration date on them of 12/18 (bought from UT).

I have a home reserved with no refund on the deposit I have on it...

I'm going to go against the popular opinion here and say go this year. You just never know what is going to happen in life...loss of employment, illness or other unexpected things. I'm all for doing fun things as soon as possible.

That definitely plays on my mind, also...

Edit: misread your post a bit. Can you go this year and next? :) Honestly, if you're leaning toward next year then listen to your gut. I would personally go this year before the construction REALLY takes off, but that's just me!
