Now this some Funny ****

lol! Okay that song finally makes sense to me now. I never could figure out what he was saying before. :rotfl2:

That pretty much was my era - I loved Joe. Is he still alive? Was he really alive at Woodstock? The world may never know.

Boy....acid sure makes a guy forgetful!!! But he was SUUUURE feelin'it!!! I aint sure what he was feelin....but dat boy could sure scream a melody!

He's still alive as far as I know....as long as he leaves his hat on, his spirit cant escape!!

That was my era...and a great one it was!!! I was 16 when Woodstock happened...lived about 4 hours away & my mom would not let me go with my friends. I NEEDED a little help from my friends for that....but they would not help me! :sad1:

Rock on, Joe!!

ETA: Ozzie took singing lessons from Joe.

Poor Joe never realized somebody took his guitar.

I try to forget the 60's. Not much good happened then. Except the Beatles. And the Rolling Stones. They were pretty good, I hear. I think some of them made a little money. And cars were cool then. And they had power and nobody cared if they got lousy gas mileage cause gas was really cheap. Lyndon Johnson was a hoot. And he got in trouble because people thought he picked up his beagle by the ears, but he really didn't. And everybody read the newspaper on the day the draft lottery was published. It was a big section of the newspaper. I even checked my birthday and I wasn't old enough to be drafted. Our TV was black and white and we only got 3 channels. Except when the weather was good, then we got channel 11 from Canada. They used to have "blue movies" late at night and my brother and I would sneak downstairs to watch them on Saturday night. What the heck were we talking about?

I was born in 68....a few years too late, unfortunately. I hear there was more sex and less diseases....and a guy could ride an American themed motorcycle across the country without fear of being shot by some redneck in a truck....oh wait, Captain American DID get shot by some redneck in a truck....but he had no fear of it prior to that!!!

OHHHHHhhhh yeah....Joe Cocker's in New Orleans today....that doesnt prove that he's alive, but he's here playing in the jazz fest!!!

This may very well be the best Jazz Fest line up Ive ever seen....Winton Marsalis, Johnny Winter, Irma Thomas, James Taylor, Erykah Badu, Pete Fountain, The Imagination Movers, Kermit Ruffins, Ivan Neville, Dave Matthews Band, Earth, Wind & Fire, Etta James, Robert Cray, Better Than Ezra, Allen Toussaint, Ben Harper, Emmylou Harris, Sugarland, Tony Bennett, Bonnie Raitt, Doc Watson, Dr. John, Bon Jovi, Kings of Leon, The O’Jays, The Whispers, John Mayall, Cowboy Mouth, Aaron Neville, Los Lobos, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Buddy Guy....those are all the bigger names, plus hundreds of Zydeco, bluegrass, jazz brass, blues, and gospel bands. This is what I think of when I think of what Woodstock may have been like...yep, you can always smell the ganga burning in the air, and lots of other strange odors mixed in with an over priced array of cajun cuisine...and I have to miss it just about every year because I work weekends!!!

If youve ever wanted to go to New Orleans....I will always suggest skipping Mardi Gras and making it for the Jazz Fest. These next 2 weekends are the best this city has to offer in my opinion!! And there has NEVER been any reported crime within the fairgrounds of the event....everyone is usually too stoned to get angry and start any nonsense:)

Pete Fountain is still alive??? The only "licorice stick" player better than him was Benny Goodman.

Man, Rog...do I wish I could be in NOLA this weekend!

Yes, ma'am...Pete's still hangin' on....but he's lookin rough. If you've never seen him and have him on your bucket list....you better do it soon because he's just about completed his bucket list!!! He's nearly 400 years old (thats New Orleans Musician years....80 in normal years), he has made an extravagant life out of blowing wind, and STILL sucking on those gigantic cigars when there aint a clairinet in his mouth! He's has dropped a ton of weight lately and Im hoping its not due to cancer or something like that, but at 80...I doubt he's losing weight because of a new diet routine or spending time in the gym. A world without Pete......hmmmm, thats a depressing thought.

I saw him in the 60s he was jammin in a club with Al Hirt and a bunch of others back in the late 60s. I was totally wasted and so were they. Best music I ever heard in my life.

I saw ol' Pete back in 1972 at a club in downtown Buffalo. Help me out Al....the 21 Club on Bailey or Main St? Gene Krupa's band was playing and Pete sat in for a set. The band I sang in at the time caught wind that Krupa was going to be in town & we all went to see him. Were we ever surprised when Pete got up and played! Didn't even know he was there. It was stupendous!!! Two of the best musicians!! A "little known" jazz musician who was just coming on the scene was featured that evening as well. Ever hear of Chuck Mangione??? That is one night I will never forget!

These memories make me really miss the old Jazz Club at P.I. They had some great jazz entertainers there. It was also the only club at P.I. that you could smoke in, too.

In 1974 my high school band director took me and a few others to the University of Rochester for a concert at the Eastman School of Music. It was Chuck Mangione, who was teaching there at the time, and we got to go backstage and meet him. He was a really nice guy and must have spent a couple hours talking to us.

I'm officially jealous, Jim! Mangione is one person I'd love to speak with. I'd just like to know where his music comes from. He has some pretty sweet phrases in his songs!!

What HS did you graduate from?
