It's hilarious to me how seriously some posters take this....worried about the "teacher"? Suggesting the op should help the teacher w/ his vacation planning?

I find it odd that there is so much teacher bashing on here based on what a parent said her child said about what the teacher said.

Perhaps the teacher was trying to be funny, perhaps the child misunderstood, perhaps...a hundred different things. I can completely seeing the teacher making a joke about walking--trying to be funny. Sometimes kids don't pick up on sarcasm or humor.

To say things like this: and and calling him a bully, based on the original post strikes me as really unfair.

My five and seven year old have come home with all sorts of things they claim happened at school. As a teacher, I've also heard some doozies. If I was really concerned, I would contact the teacher to get clarification. As teachers often say, "Don't believe everything you hear from your kids that they say happened at school, and I won't believe everything they say happens at home."

If people really think that this teacher is not fit to teach children based on a casual comment in class (about walking to Disneyworld of all things), then I think that's really sad that there is so little trust in our teachers.

You really need to grow a thicker skin. Yes, I agree that the bullying comment went way over the top and was needless. However, and this is a BIG however, the bulk of the replies were simply addressing the OPs statement at face value. Most of us were not delving into the fantasyland that includes every permutation of "maybe he meant xyz...." We were commenting on the situation as it was given to us.

As for your statement about whether or not the teacher was fit to teach- I think it was fairly clear that some folks were simply stating that this teacher showed a remarkable degree of ignorance, lack of planning, and poor judgement in this situation, and that if this was typical of that teacher, they might not be the brightest light on the ceiling.

I'm in Graduate School. A few weeks ago, one of my profs said something about being able to take the Paris Metro to EuroDisneyWorld if you get bored with all the museums in Paris. He was being sarcastic, but he clearly doesn't know the name of Disneyland Resort Paris.

He should probably give back his PhD in European History.

i have always used dis transportation once i am on property..dont see anything wrong with that..even when i stayed off site. you are giving disney your money i think thats the least they can do

Or he remembers when it was called Euro Disney, much like the "old timers" tend to call the Magic Kingdom "Disney World." MK was the only game in town when I first went there as a wee one, and I still sometimes refer to it as Disney World. I'd roll my eyes at any "corrections" from a helpful stranger.

First, the age of the children in the OP's sig is 17 and 13. Hardly small children who cannot ever be trusted to relate what happened in school.

Second, I see person-who-happens-to-be-a-teacher *questioning*, but hardly bashing. And I would assume that people who think he's a bully have experienced that sort of "we will walk" thing in their own lives, likely from a bullying sort of adult. You want to cut the guy some slack...maybe cut the Dis'ers some slack as well?

It would literally impossible for a non-guest to get onto an ME bus without paying, though. (and really, they can't get on to an ME bus at all, under normal circumstances). And they are staying offsite, so the ME bus, even if they snuck on, wouldn't take them where they wanted to go.

The previous poster almost certainly meant the inside-WDW transportation, and that is free to people visiting the parks.

Can you imagine looking out the window of your resort bus to the parks and seeing a exhausted family traipsing through the grass by the side of the road?? *laughing*

Exactly, you can walk down the road to the end of your resort area but then what . I'm always amused when I see people walking down the side of the road in WDW. You know they're totally bumming because they didn't know any better and now realize there are no sidewalks and Florida is hot and buggy and swampy, and snakey, and the grass is razor sharp...it's a jungle out there!

Literally, this is the funniest thing ever!! I can see it now, they're staying at one of the Good Neighbor Hotels and make it to DTD...imagine if they go into a store and ask "How much further to the MK?"

If they are saying at a good neighbour hotel then there definetly would be transportation to most of the parks. If they are not staying in a good neighbour hotel, then there could be complimentary transportation, or he might have to pay a nominal fee. I know when we stayed at a good neighbour hotel, there was no charge, but tipping was almost manditory. Anyhow you slice it, I'm sure he will figure it out shortly after he gets there. There are a lot of outside shuttle services. If he is staying on #192, he can get a Lynx bus to MK for a couple of dollars per person, and transfer from there to whichever park he wishes. But he isn't going to be able to walk to the parks, even if he is capable. It simply isn't allowed.

I laugh at the sheer cheapskatedness of the guy, but I pity his poor kids. They're the ones that will pay the price. And I hope his wife slaps him upside the back of his head and says "Stick a crowbar in your wallet and pry out $14 x 6 days = $84 to park."

OP, if you decide to help this "teacher" at all, I suggest you have the "help" come from your parents. Just a quick email mentioning his comment and setting him straight should do it. You might also consider attaching a photo mapping out the distance from I-4 to the MK.

He may not want to take advice from students, but might listen up if it came from another adult. For the sake of his family, I'd think I'd at least try and set him straight.

I'd be worried this person was my child's teacher.

Forgetting the fact that walking along some of these roads is prohibited (something that should be researched before leaving home), it's kinda' like this teacher wants to compete in an 'Iron Man' competition by first walking an obstacle course before walking a marathon through the Parks.....and then he has to get home.

Really folks? I would love for you to explain to me exactly HOW this has any bearing on this mans teaching abilities?

Or how precisely you feel that you have the right to judge him for something here? It is very likely that he doesn't realize exactly what the distance to the parks is from his hotel, but hey not everyone is an expert on disney are they? Just because you might be doesn't mean you are better than him or have a right to question his teaching abilities based on one comment about walking to disneyworld.

This is probably one of the most ridiculous things I have read on the DIS lately.

My guess is that paying for a taxi both ways would outweigh simply paying to park. Don't forget that it's not ONLY the miles that are calculated. Each time he's at a light, time ticks away. Or he sits in a little traffic, time ticks away.

Staying just two miles off property and walking to disney property is one thing, the other 7 miles down World Drive to the Magic Kingdom is quite another. I used to work there and it took me about 10 minutes to get on property from where I lived and another 15 at least to get to the Grand. Not a good idea to even attempt to walk, that is for sure. Not to mention the Gators that occasionally would be crossing the roads.
