I'll try to pull Ray's thread back on track, because what is beginning to happen to it is exactly what he is referring to.
Ray, remember that this is an internet bulletin board. You can choose to look or not look at whatever you wish. Personally, I choose to look at those things which I feel will add something to my experience here in a positive way. If I see a post written by someone who has, in my past experience, been one to post negative or insulting things, I choose not to look at that person's post. Perhaps I'll be missing out on some wonderful thing they have to say, but that's the risk I am willing to take. That isn't to say that everyone doesn't have the right to post here, because they do. But I also have the right to choose to read what I want, and not read what I don't want, and it is a right I exercise, some days very frequently, other days not so frequently.
As to the moderators, I think they do a good job of giving a fairly long leash before the lock a thread, but once the thread becomes a venue for insults, name-calling, sarcasm and the like, it is time to shut it down.
In many ways the DIS is like a family. I do not tolerate insults, sarcasm, name-calling, and disrespect from members of my real family, so I am certainly not going to tolerate from members of my DIS internet family.
Ray, you are a nice man. Pop in every once in a while, scan the thread titles, and pick the ones that will uplift or entertain you. Use your "Ignore" feature and your "back" button and I promise you the CB will be a much more pleasant place for you!
