Now I know why you should buy where you want to stay?

I've been trying to rent points for the Nov 11th weekend for (DH's 50th) at BCV or BWV and see that it was already full at the 7 month window - we've been thinking about buying into DVC anyway, and this is just another plus for becoming an owner, and buying where you want to stay so you can book at 11 months - even if you have to go resale - correct? We're still weighing the pros and cons though, and we still like the fact that SSR has more years, but really like the Epcot area. Any thoughts?

From everything I have read on this board, I think it is really important to buy where you want to stay. We own at OKW but our next add-on will be at BWV to ensure we could stay there in the future. I think resale is the way to go for your first purchase.

Hmmmm. Your husband is celebrating his 50th. That means that when the contract expires at BCV or BWV he will be how old?? Go for where you want to stay, that is what we did. Good luck weighing :thumbsup2 .

Yes, we figure, with some luck, we'll have a few more good years left, even w/ both of us nearing the big five o, then DD14 can take over - but she has to bring us, even w/ our walkers, canes, depends, or whatever other extra baggage we may have.

I am 50 and will be dead or drooling by the time my BCV contract runs out.

Buy where you want to stay the most. That 11-month window is important. :thumbsup2

Right now we are trying to get into Vero Beach for a trip at the end of July. We have 4 out of 7 days and have our fingers crossed for the remaining 3 days. :rolleyes2

That's why I bough in at BWV. I love going in Oct. and love staying there.

Miamimamma,
...i'm Going To Hit A Two Bagger Here And Offer Our Opinion On Your Inquiry About Baby Boomers Buying, from A Different Thread, And Which Resort Is Best Suited To Your Wishes
One Of Us Two Are Pre-baby Boomers And We First Bought Tenuously Seven Years Ago. Since, We Have Become Extremely Comfortable With Dvc Ownership And Very Very Popular With All Members Of Our Family. We Have Escalated To The Point That We Now Own 800 Points Half At Dcv And Half At Vwl. We've Vacationed Several Times Each Year Together And With Various Family Members. We Wholeheartedly Agree With, You In That Depending On Our Mood We Perfer To Be Very Proximate To Either Epcot Or Magic Kingdom.
Suggestion, Call Your Dvc Advisor Place Your Name On The List And Be Willing To Wait. We Feel That With Dvc In Our Lives We Will Both Live Till All Our Contracts Run Out. Hint:our Dvc Serves As Our Winter Getaway,so We Still Call Ourselves Snowbirders By Getting Away Four Or Five Weeks Each Winter. Good Luck And Look For Me Around Stormalong Bay Next Winter

Good points - question: if we know we want BWV or BCV - do we look at resales at the same time as waitlisting with DVC?

Call your reseller (call all of them for that matter) and let them know what you're looking for. Popular resorts are often sold before they're even listed.

Particularly if your favorite resort is BCV. It is a small resort and will be more difficult to get at the 7 month window.

Mama, We Have About 6 Different Contracts In 3 Different Use Years. Some Bought From Disney And Some Bought From Other Sources. Our Last Purchase (100 Points Bcv) Was From Disney At $92 Per. After Waiting Only About 5 Weeks. From Outside Agents, The Price Per Point Was Somewhat Lower But Leveled Out After Closing Costs, Commissions, Etc.with Little Or No Waiting Time. We Recommend You Buy In Small Blocks Of 50 Or 100 Because Should You Ever Have To Sell These Smaller Blocks Will Go Quickly. As Opposed To Contracts Of 200 Or More.
Suggestion: Don't Be Afraid Of Different Use Years As Long As The Use Months Are Close To Each Other. Just A Little More Attention To Book Keeping Is Required.
Suggestion #2: We Agree That Bwv And Bcv Are Both Absolutely Beautiful. However, Keep In Mind, Particularly From A Childs Point Of View, Ownership At Bcv Permits Use Of Storm-along Bay Pool And Boardwalk Pool. However, Ownership At Bwv Permits Use Of Pool At Bwv But Not At Storm-along Bay. For That Reason, We Chose To Concentrate On Bcv And Not Bwv

I think the most important factor is where you like to stay...the added years really mean nothing to me in the long run.My youngest will be in his 40's when our contract expires and hopefully by then disney has some really new and cool resorts for future generations to enjoy. The extra 12 years was just another way to get people to buy into SSR.I think in the future the 11 month window is going to be the most important reason with all the added rooms into the DVC inventory.

This is probably the most asked question on the board. Simple advice is buy where you want to stay - and you will be the most happy.

Here is my perspective on the issue if you care to read :

1. We bought into SSR after staying a week at the Wilderness Lodge Resort. We never had used this board before, and bought because we loved Disney - and knew we would always want to vacation there when we had kids

2. After discovering the board - reading and researching, it made sense about buying where you want to stay.

Our decision and how it works for us :

1. A vacation at Walt Disney World, and staying in Deluxe Accomodations (wherever they may be) is wonderful, and something we feel priviledged to be able to afford and give to our family

2. Who cares what resort - it is a resort at Disney

3. SSR (good side)
50 year contract
Golf Course on Site (if you are a golfer)
Downtown Disney (for dinner and if you like to go out at night
Newest resort - all the resorts are in great condition, so this is even

Negative
Not as close to the parks as you might like

That was really the only negative we had. And since we rented a car, it was no big deal getting to any of the parks.

I do believe you should try to buy at whichever resort you like the best (for whatever reason). But - we just felt that any vacation at a Disney resort was top notch, and a great decision for our family. An extra 5 minutes in a car or on the bus, that might seem inconvient to some - but not us. We love it.

Also - our first experience with booking at the 7 month window was no problem. We got in at the BWV, so we got an Epcot resort during the Food and Wine Festival - Were we lucky? I dont know that answer, but so far DVC has worked for us just fine

Best of luck
Eric
