Now ~I~ Have A Blue Bayou Question

OMG those potatoes are heaven on a plate. LOL I would eat just that and be so happy. :) They are scalloped, thin sliced and served with a yummy cheesy sauce. And I'm sad that the cookie boat is gone, that was the BEST dessert....

For a great dessert, try the Banana Bread Pudding at Cafe Orleans. Wonderful, and plan to split it, it's too much for one person.

ooohh..that sounds really good...I need to be there more than 4 days to eat everything I want to ;)

Also, I keep seeing references to crab meat in the Jambalaya. It does not say so on the menu, and I had the Jambalaya a couple of weeks ago and didn't notice any crab.

I have had the jambalaya a number of times. I don't recall crab meat in it. From what I can remember it has fish (white fish, maybe mahi mahi?), andouilee sausage, chicken and shrimp. There may be one more thing in there but i dont think its crab meat.

Eiter way, really good stuff, rice is great

For anybody who wants to try to make their own blue bayou potatoes (or who wants a better idea as to what they are), try googling "dauphinoise potatoes", which is roughly what the blue bayou potatoes are.

I read somewhere, I don't remember where, that they are bringing the cookie boat back during the summer. But who knows? The food is kind of a secondary thing for me there...it's the atmosphere that makes it so great!

Here's the recipe that they use at BB:

Potatoes (baking) 3 lbs, peeled and thin sliced
Onion, thin sliced

Cream Sauce for the Potatoes

Manufacturing Cream (Heavy Cream) 2 cups
Whole Thyme (dry) 1/4 tsp.
Fresh Garlic (chopped) 2 tbs.
Salt 1-1/4 tsp.
Pepper 1-1/4 tsp
Butter 1 tbs.
Parmesan Cheese (grated) 4 oz *use real grated parmesan cheese, not the kind sold in a shaker

Mix onions and potatoes and put into baking dish. Mix cream, garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme leaves. Pour mixture over potatoes and onions and cover. Put in a pre-heated 350F degree oven, and bake for about one hour. When potatoes are tender, remove from oven and sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Put back in the oven uncovered and bake for ten minutes more until brown.

I can vouch that this recipe works as I've used it many a time, to excellent results :thumbsup2

Thanks. I will certainly make this. I thought they were close to scalloped but this looks alot easier! No layering, just mix and dump. I'm sure the trick is making the potatoes and onion super thin. We all enjoyed our BB dinner. We all had the filet, and my SIL had the filet and lobster. (quite a bargain..same sized steak with lobster added for $3.00 more) The potatoes were prefection this time around, everything was very good, we were seated in the middle, not really by the water, but close enough for the ambience. Really nice experience.

Yep, that's the trick...slice them as thin as possible! I use a food processer to slice them, but if you don't have one, just use the "paper thin slices" part of a handheld cheese grater & that will work, as well :thumbsup2

My husband & I always go there when we're at Disneyland for our anniversary. I wasn't impressed with the wedge of lettuce (I think they finally changed it), but I really like their food.:surfweb:
