I just got back from a lunch that was thrown by the law firm I work for for administrative week. For administrative week the firm I work for does different things. For instance, Monday we had "Vacation Bingo" where you play Bingo for extra vacation days. Yesterday they didn't do anything, but today they threw a nice lunch. It started with a very nice setting in the Garden Room, over looking a roof deck garden in downtown Boston. The place settings were of high quality silver wear and plates. For starters, they had a nice salad and bread. Then for the main course they had either Beef Tenderloin or Sea Bass...I had the Beef Tenderloin (juicy, not dry with potato wedges and broccoli). For desert, they had a big piece of chocolate cake. And I had not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4, count ‘em 4 glasses of red win :faint: ….and they expect me to do work now? You want to know what the best part is? The attorneys served us. Yep, I was served by the managing shareholder of the office. Ok, now what was it I was supposed to do this afternoon again? :teeth:

That is the coolest thing I have heard today. What a lucky person you are. Your firm must really value what you do!

We got zilch!

It seems that most of the law firms here in Boston do pretty nice things for their staff. We had breakfast this morning along with some other goodies. A friend of mine works in another firm here in town and she said they received a dozen roses and they're having a big lunch on Friday.

I work for a mid-size firm and she works for a very small firm...so size doesn't seem to matter either.

Ok, I work for a major greeting card manufacturer. I know these are just "Hallmark holidays" but I am stunned at the number of people who came in TODAY looking for cards for Admin Professionals day and then went off to suprise their assistants with that and the oh so thoughtful Walmart bath set they picked up for $8.99

Congrats, you are very lucky! No one in my office got anything. It's just another day :sad2:

Wow! That's a nice way to show their appreciation!!

We took a collection for our three admin professionals. I "volunteered" to get them something (since I'm the only woman, aside from them...and the guys here are CLUELESS! ;) ).

Anyway, we got them all some little Yankee Candle votives, and some gift certificates.

Two of the ladies were very happy (and even more happy that a woman picked stuff out! :teeth: )...but the third lady basically REFUSED to take hers. I felt so bad...everyone keeps telling me she has "issues" but I still feel like she could have been a little more kind.

that is really awesome. What a nice place to work!

hiwaygal--what reason on earth could she give for refusing a gift???? How bizarre and RUDE!

:confused3 From what I can tell/have heard she is a bit bizarre...I'm not sure if she's really rude or if she really has some workplace frustrations or if she was embarrassed or what...but, heck, it was a just a token of appreciation ('cause let's face it, we aren't always an easy crew to work with/for! :teeth: )

Wow, that is a great way for your firm to say thanks. When I was working I could have handled that quite well! :rotfl2:

I think it is nice that people want to get a nice card for a gift they took the time to pick out. I think that is a great gift idea.

Nice lunch you were given. I'd have a hard time working after that lunch tho!! :lmao:

Add me to the I can't work after today's lunch list. One of the many perks of life in a law firm is most firms celebrate Support Staff Day all week. We have a gift and some food treat each day. Give us half of an excuse to have a party and.......... :woohoo: Work hard, play hard. :thumbsup2

Oh it's very nice to remember them with a gift. I just have a problem with the people who run in on their lunch hour and grab the first thing they see, not putting any thought into it.

Well, my law firm didn't get that memo. ;) Last year, I recieved flowers, but I found out that the only female attorney in our office said suggested to the boss that he do something. But she moved out of state two months ago, so the maroon lawyers that I work for have no clue that it's an "appreciation" week. Oh well, I knew this would happen, so I planned my own gift, and will be at Disney this Friday. :goodvibes We'll see if the lawyers appreciate me once I'm gone and can't "babysit" them for a few days.

I scarfed down my usual teacher sandwich/yogurt/apple in under 20 minutes. ;) No problems working this afternoon.

Good for you and your free buzz! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes :)
