About leaving our son at college while we enjoy OKW and F&W in October. He and five friends from school (just finished finals last week) drove to WDW overnight and are at AK right now with no crowds. He's been on EE three times already, the safari, Festival of the Lion King, Nemo show and have FPs for Kali River Rapids.

Thank you, DVC, for the discounted PAPs last fall. He's showing that to park the group for free in the theme park parking lots since they are staying off site.

This is one lucky kid. All of us are heading to the beach in a few weeks.

I'm scratching marks into my walls counting down the days until DD and DS are in college and we're no longer constrained by the school calendar! :rotfl: We're dying to take a F&W trip like yours!

One down in August, one 2 years away!

(...and we're going on a Mommy/Daddy only Kidani trip in January for the marathon...:cool1:)

good for you two.....no guilt and a son who has learned well about the way to enjoy Disney!!!! ;)

You brought him up right, Deb! Our adult "kids" are joining us at Christmas this year at Kidani and OKW. Can't wait to enjoy a trip again with the WHOLE family. Usually it's one or the other, but mostly just the two of us. I'm thinking this will be a special trip.

I love hearing this story!!! I've raised both of my boy (now 5 and 8) with DVC and I hope they continue to want to go as they get older! :)

Not so fast on the raising him good. He just texted me about going to the DVC resorts. I asked him why. He wanted to go there to eat and ... get this... maybe go for a swim! Told him no, he couldn't do it because he was not a guest on points. Yikes!

about not feeling sad about having an empty nest. Our youngest went off to college and we were no longer held hostage by the school year or school holidays. Our first visit to F&W quickly cured us of those feelings. We always have an open invitation for our adult kids, and their spouses/significant others, to join us. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Either way we have a great time. In a matter of days my DW & I will be retired allowing us to no longer be constrained by any calendar. And now the grandkids will be joining us. Life is good.

Glad he is having a great time and funny about the pool situation. :lmao:

As to the guilty part, we always took adult only trips even before we were empty nesters.

My pediatrician on the first visit with our child said, one of the best things you can do for your child and for yourself is to take trips without them.

I figured the Dr. knew best and we always took one adult only trip each year and the kids were with Grandparents, which the kids and the Grandparents loved.

And yes we did go to Disney World some on those trips and I was amazed how much fun it was not to worry about having to do what the kids wanted or even keeping up with them.

Of course there was always the family trip to Disney World each year, so not like they did not get their Disney fix too. I just got it twice, which I figured actually I deserved.

I'm exactly the same as you Sammie!!! We always took an adult trip every year since the kids were very small- sometimes just a long weekend and sometimes longer as they got older. the grandparents loved that special time with them and we loved that special time together without them!!!! But we always took 1 or 2 family trips also so no one missed out. Now the kids are grown and in their mid to late 20's sometimes they come with us and sometimes not and we EVEN give them points and let them go WITHOUT us!! But this Oct we are all going to OKW Grand Villa for a F&W week together . Cant't wait!!!! Maybe we will see some of you guys there!!!!!

We're doing the family trip in October. Our granddaughter Abby will be 2 and 4 months (her 2nd Disney trip!) and we're staying at Kidani so she can see the giraffes and zebras from the balcony. Our adult DSs constantly ask why we're gong to WDW again on our adult only trips and suggest Vegas or other locations, but when they heard about this trip, sheepishly asked if they could come. We're going to MNSSHP and I have trip shirts for everyone, and will make tie-dye Mickey shirts this summer at our camp in NH.

An added bonus is my youngest son is bringing his roommate, a young man who slept on Dan's bedroom floor every Friday night for a year and a half who has never flown. I am so excited about a first timer seeing WDW! :thumbsup2 But since there will be 3 young adult males doing DTD and BoardWalk, I have a lock-off. If they wake the baby, no food for them :rotfl2:

My DD is very excited and her husband is coming along in developing a love for Disney. He even downloaded the My Disney Experience onto her phone. Too bad that app doesn't work better :confused3

thanks for listening...

Well, THAT too he will learn! LOL, maybe he wishes he was staying at DVC after all.

We've noticed a similar trend with our own "grown" children (is that an oxymoron?:goodvibes). When they're out on their own they survive and function fantastically. But when they come home, including DVC home, they seem to regress regarding the most simple and obvious things. :confused3

Has he said if there are any love bugs out?

I just texted him and he said there were a few around. I asked him if the car got plastered with them on the way there, but he hasn't replied yet.
