we booked our trip with sw,we went with the internet specials,we had to book oneway tickets so we did this, there are 5 of us.now I am scared because my sil also booked at a higher rate for her trip and swears we may get bumped!!!!is this true??even if we call 24hrs and get A seating can the bump us???she doesn't have seating yet either and said she also has to call 24hrs before....Does internet prices mean we get bumped if they over book???we leave the 17th

Don't worry - the odds of you getting bumped without you wanting to get bumped (for the credit) is VERY slim.

The last people to check in determines who gets bumped, not the price you paid. Most flights find enough people to voluntarily bumped. If I've got no place to be, I volunteer, but only for a free flight.

Your SIL is just messing with you. SW has about the lowest bump rate in the industry. I wouldn't worry about it at all. The truth is all her "paying more" did was give SW more profit.

Currently involuntary bumps on Southwest start with C boarding pass holders. They won't hold back A and B passengers while they are doing headcounts and calculating exactly how many bumps are needed.

Hint: (for any airline) If you don't want to be bumped, check in the parents first, children last. When it is found out only children were bumped the airline will almost certainly immediately bump someone else instead.

If you do want to be bumped, check in one parent first and the other parent last. Also volunteer in the same order. Although nothing is guaranteed, this permits any number of family members to accept voluntary bumping without leaving children unaccompanied. .

Not necessarily. Bumping priority is also based on airline status. An elite member of an airline's frequent flyer program is not likely to be bumped, no matter when he/she checks in. Of course, this doesn't apply to SWA!

I'm guessing what is confusing your SIL is that she doesn't fly SW. On *other* airlines, if they can't give you a confirmed seat, you are at risk for being bumped (note that the industry's involuntary bumb rate is less than 1 in 10,000 - so it's a pretty remote danger).

But on SW, *nobody* gets a confirmed seat. Get you A passes and don't worry about it.

PHEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWww
