Now Approaching... Sleepingbooty's Sept. PTR (We're BAAACK! 9/26)

Working the ADRs into the schedule is the hardest part. Usually I get my ADRs first then slot them into my itinerary. Never thought of doing it the other way around. Maybe that would would better? duh!

Well, since we're not doing hoppers, I have to do it this way - because whatever park we are going to that day will limit our ADRs. Figuring all this stuff out sometimes makes me want to just throw up my hands and spend the extra $$ on the hoppers - but once I'm there, I don't miss not having them at all.

Just had to share this little bit of non-ptr, real-life stuff. My oldest, Jenna, got her first pair of glasses this week. She thought she could see just fine, but she's been having headaches almost every day. I thought maybe it was her eyes so I took her to the eye doctor. Turns out, she was only seeing about 20/60 in her left eye, about 20/30 in the other - and she has astigmatism. So, we'll see if it corrects the headaches. In the meantime, doesn't she look cute?

Your DD's glasses are so cute! When I got my first pair of glasses in 3rd grade, they were so dorky. Of course at the time, I thought they were super cool (light pink plastic frames). I was so excited when I got contacts in 6th grade. Glasses have sure gotten a lot cuter since then!

Thank you!

I know, I got glasses in the fourth grade, and they were totally dorky! They are so much cooler now - and it seems like lots more kids have them.

She looks adorable!! I love the style she picked out, and am so glad she will see better!! Headaches are no fun, and am excited you've likely found the source.

I guess I plan backwards too. I plan by the park I want to hit, then fit the ADRs in. I always start with EMH (whether going on not- and it's usually going, because I love to squeeze every last park hour in that I can!) then work backwards from there.

I think I"m in the minority though. :goodvibes

Aw, thanks! But, unfortunately, she is still having headaches! Hopefully they'll stop soon. If not - I'll have to call the doc. I guess it could be allergies (although she doesn't really have any other symptoms). I'm trying not to think about other possibilities yet.

It sure does, doesn't it! Mine (in 5th) were pretty dorky. When Eric got his, in 2nd, Jeff mentioned that he thought Eric was one of the few kids that looked better in glasses.

:rotfl:

They suit him. Still, he's got some darn fancy frames!

She looks adorable.

I bet the headaches will go away, the astigmatism seems to be pretty bad for that, Eric was rubbing his eyes constantly. We thought he was tired but it was the strain of trying to focus. He's only 20/30 but the astigmatism is awful and he has minor reading issues too. It was shocking when I was told my 8 year old needed bifocals! Who even knew kids could have them?

I've actually seen quite a few kids with bifocals. In fact, just a few days before I took Jenna to the eye dr. I was having discussion about that with my aunt who it a pediatric nurse. She said that they often prescribe bifocals to children as a way to stave off the worsening of their vision. I asked the doctor about this, and he explained to me how it works. We decided together that it might be an option for Jenna, but we'll see how she does the first year with single vision lenses. He also said wearing contacts does the same thing. I certainly don't think she's ready for contacts in the third grade (although some kids may be), but its something I'll consider in the future. Like, maybe when she can handle me putting eyedrops in her eyes:rolleyes:

Hi Rebecca! How are those headaches this weekend?? I really hope they work themselves out very soon! NO FUN to feel rotten like that.

Hi Liesa!
She didn't have any today, so that's good - but she had one the two previous days (days 1 and 2 with the glasses). I suppose getting used to new glasses could cause a headache as well?

Luckily, they aren't severe headaches. And, she is they type of kid who reports even the most minor discomfort, so I sort of have to put it in perspective. Of course, as a mom I can't help but worry, though.

Thanks, Jordan! I think so, too. She's got the attitude to pull them off, too. I didn't look quite so stylin' in my Sally Jessy Raphael glasses when I was her age.;)

While TGM and other pay sites are VERY, VERY helpful, proper planning can alleviate most fears you may have about NOT following the best/worst guidelines. I think glennbo already said this...I'm agreeing with him.

Chapter 18: A little twist

I know I haven't even begun to discuss the quagmire that is the transportation issue. And I'm not going to now. Okay, I guess I am, but just a little.

I've been looking at available flight times and prices. Keep in mind that Southwest has not released their fares for late September yet, but looking at everything else I'm finding a dearth of desirable fares. By desirable, I mean it has to cheap, nonstop, and early. I don't want to pull in to Orlando at 7:30 pm and waste our whole first day!

So, I had an idea. A wonderful idea. A, dare I say, genius idea! By employing the power of Fuzzy Disney Math, I can justify flying in on Friday after work rather than Saturday morning. See, we'd be getting the cheaper flight time by flying in the evening, but we wouldn't lose our whole first day traveling. The cost of paying for an extra night hotel but getting the cheaper fare would probably be the same as buying the more expensive early morning fare on Saturday, plus we'd gain half a day.

Of course, If the main objective is to not lose the whole first day to traveling, then I'm not sure if I've met that. Because if we fly in Friday night, then our new first day is actually Friday, and we'll have wasted the whole day Friday traveling! So, Maybe we should leave Thursday. Oh, but then we'd waste Thursday traveling.... I see how easily you can go from one week to 10 days, to 2 weeks!

So assuming you all agree with this hairy new plan, does ya think I should book this extra night now? Or do I wait until I get flights ironed out? And what about the question of where. Just add a night to our current package (this would give us an extra day's food credits), or book a cheaper room just for one night? Or a separate ressie at our current resort (CBR) just for room only?

So many questions, so little time.... until (hopefully) free dining is released and all the available rooms are snapped up!

Oh, by the way - ADRs tomorrow! I thought it was Tuesday - good thing my TA is on top of things!

Well good. I'm glad you all feel that way - because I was getting a little nervous about flat out ignoring UG's advice. I mean, what am I paying them all that money for;) I hope they don't yank my membership!

tough one....I'd probably book the room first...especially if you're fairly sure that you'll get a good fare out on friday.

Hmmm....I don't know what I would do. I do know one thing, Southwest is released flights through sometime in Oct tomorrow (I've been waiting too!). Maybe you should wait until after tomorrow to book flights (just to check out if Southwest is super cheap) and then book an extra night after that.
