Whew -- almost to the end of the month! We're going to get there everyone, even if we haven't done as well as we'd like!:goodvibes

I've decided not to record the Christmas shopping on here or count it against my no buy days. I'm finding myself not ordering Christmas gifts so that I don't ruin a no buy day, and that is just not going to work for me down the line. I'm already far, far behind in my shopping and I'm beginning to get a little stressed over it. My goal is looking tough to meet either way!

The latest:
11/1: $42 for last week's after school care, $? for the PO (been avoiding that trip for almost 3 weeks, so I don't really want to know, but I suppose I'll have to ask later), $62 on clothes, and $140 for indoor soccer registration for the boys (ouch, but I was able to get the late fee waived because I didn't even know this place had indoor soccer until Sat., and the deadline was of course Fri.! That was really nice of them.) Starting off with a huge day!
11/2: $30 for the school fundraiser (beautiful wreath though!), $32 for gas, ? for grinders but DH picked them up so I'll have to ask.
11/3: $14 at the book fair
11/4: :cool1:
11/5: $10 groceries, $12 skate night (PTO fundraiser), and $35 for after school care.
11/6: $130 on haircuts for me and the boys (I've got a lovely new shade of dark brown hair now!:)), $35 at Target, and $20 gas. I also returned about $50 to Lands' End.
11/7: $43 groceries, $66 on clothes. (We had gift cards to pay for our hot chocolates at Dunkin' Donuts!)
11/8: :cool1: (How could I forget to update on a no buy day?)
11/9: :cool1:
11/10: :cool1: (Not counting the new tires on my car as I've had the money saved for months and they're a big ticket, one-time type, necessary item.)
11/11: $14 bagel place (There isn't a one near us, so we buy lots when we visit MIL!), $75 Trader Joe's (ditto!), $25 dinner at the highway rest stop on the way home, $43 clothes (including a Lands' End fleece jacket for DS for $7!!)
11/12: I thought I had a no buy, but then I realized that my 8 year old is still using the same hooded baby towels he had as a newborn and they're suddenly tattered. I was going to wait for a good Kohl's sale, but I found a sale, a 30% coupon, and free shipping online tonight. So $38 Kohls for towels, a Christmas gift for my aunt, and socks and pjs for the boys. ETA: $218 on Christmas gifts, too. Ouch.
11/13: Today was my big shoe shopping trip with my friend that we've been looking forward to for about a month. That means that DH had the boys all day and spent money too. Here goes: DH and the boys spent $105 at BJ's (with $45 in coupons!), $? for lunch, $? for birdseed from the nature center fundraiser (he can't remember how much!). I spent $98 on shoes, $1 on muffin cups, $7 on sewing supplies, $17 on pjs and puzzles, and $16 on odds and ends for my class. I drove, so my friend bought my lunch, which was nice of her.
11/14: $26 groceries
11/15: $35 after school care, $? on dinner because the casserole I had put in the fridge LAST night to defrost was still a solid brick at 4:30 this afternoon.
11/16: $12 for the little one's book order, $80 on ONE contact lens (ouch!).
11/17: :cool1:
11/18: $50 gas, $58 on things for my students, $50 on gifts/replacement clothes for me (I'll be returning a sweatshirt I ordered earlier this month, but rather than exchange it, I just rebought it at 20% off!), $2 on pencils for the boys
11/19: $8 groceries
11/20: $30 dinner out (long story!), $35 post office
11/21: $30 AC Moore, but some of it was a Christmas gift
11/22: :cool1:
11/23: $9 on breakfast with a visiting relative, $4 lunch, $20 pharmacy
11/24: Ooooh. Ended up having an emergency eye doctor's appt. and taking the little one to the doctor too. Spent money at Target and Joann's, put gas in the car, and ended up going out to dinner due to the late appointment time.
11/25: :cool1:
11/26: I wish I could say all of my Black Friday shopping was for Christmas, but the little one needed gloves, the big one needed jeans, and I "needed" a sweater. I also bought new blankets for both of their beds and spent $15 on lunch. I'm too lazy to separate that spending from the Christmas shopping I did today, but I did well at the sales!
11/27: Ended up grabbing more gloves at Children's Place (they wear like iron!), another sweater I "needed" that wasn't on sale yesterday (smart marketing on Old Navy's part -- they got me there twice in two days!), cat litter at Target, and so on. Oh, and more Christmas shopping!
11/28: gas, groceries and $50 on ice skates for both boys (adjustable, so they should cover the next two or three seasons for each one!)
11/29: $4 on photos for my class

I'm sick, so this is a 0 day. It's not really a good thing because I am skipping bowling, which means I'll be paying for something I did not use, but for today it means I am not going out.

I have no idea how I am going to handle next month- I will be traveling home for 5 days. Maybe I will come up with a goal that does not include those days.

Good job all for hanging in there! Hope we can all have a blessed Christmas without breaking the bank next month.

I'm finishing my 6 month anniversery with no buy. I noticed a couple trends- I spent about an average of $750 to $775 when I did not go to Disney, and about $1100 the two months that I did go to Disney. ( I'm local, so I don't have the expenses that most would have)

So my New years resolution will be to save an extra $100 a month in an ING account so I can cover those Disney visits or other things without it being a strain on my budget. I already have a Christmas Club that is $25 a week, so the holidays are covered.

In other news, I saved $1216 in 6 months by couponing and shopping sales, but my food budget still seems high for 2 people- $250 a month. I think I'm spending more on food because we are eating out less than we did before.

So for all my no buy friends, I'm just wondering if tracking your expenses has shown you trends and habits in your buying, and if you have created a plan or changed your budget because of it?

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. We are back, got in last night. The weather was perfect beyond words, the crowds were much lighter then the previous Thanksgiving trips, not complaining, just surprised. There were a few budget busters on the trip, 2 OOP meals, Characters in Flight and my insane DH bought me one of those Disney purses :scared1: . I don't regret the meals, but they were hard to pay for without the DDP, I do regret Characters in Flight, don't think it was worth it at all, don't even want to think about the purse. I was sick when he told me he bought it, I probably don't spend that much on myslef in a year and to have it all at once...I can't think about it. It's for Christmas so I shouldn't be thinking about it anyway.

Anway, I spent $ today, we are getting the kittens tonight so I had to get them a litter box, litter, food, etc and later will go get groceries. I wanted to go earlier but I woke up to a flat tire and when I filled it, it went flat right away again so I guess I have to go take care of that but I have to get them kittens at 3 first. It has been a hard first day back, but was such a wonderful 10 days away so of course it would be. I am looking forward to December, I will have made it a whole year which was my goal. :yay:

Welcome back MickeyMom. We missed you.

Try to enjoy the purse. I think one the bad side effects of being a no buyer is that we tend to feel guilty and not take pleasure in buying things for ourselves or getting gifts.

That purse is DHs way of thanking you for holding down the fort while he works, for bringing the kids to see him at work, for doing no buy so you can enjoy a nice vacation, and for being a wonderful wife. Merry Christmas- Use the purse, show off the purse and enjoy it. Don't spend another second worrying about it. :-)

I did good with the no spend days but went way over budget in the eating out. However, because I had to postpone my cataract surgery I had over budgeted in my medical and set bills so I ended up with $232 left unspent. I am also a few dollars over my Christmas spending and still have one gift left plus stocking stuff.

I agree that figuring out how to deal with December is tricky because of holiday stuff. That is why I am still working on the budget.

Virgderon, when I went on vacation, I budgeted only for the days I was home. Also, I have used this thread to discover that my biggest expense is feeding my family - either taking them out or cooking nice stuff (like steak or shrimp) for them. I now know that if I have to cut back, I can feed them chicken casserole or spaghetti and save the budget. Hope you feel better and when you visit family, is that Chicago? I so miss my Portillo hot dogs and italian beef now that I live in Michigan.

charming23, thanks for starting December's thread.

MickeyMomOfThree, welcome back and I agree, it is a gift so you can just relax and enjoy that purse.

Thanks Guys, I will try to enjoy it. :goodvibes It is just such a huge amount for me. I go to the grocery store, school, dance classes and sports events with the kids, I just don't see a reason for such expensive things, but it was a very nice thing for him to do and I love that he'd even think of it. He said he'd been putting a few bucks away specifically for it so it was a planned thing made better by the 20% off coupon.

I too was disapointed that Characters in Flight wasn't better, I wished I had read reviews of it before spending $100 on it, but the reviews may disagree with me, not sure. We went at night, it wasn't our choice we would have picked day but honestly don't know if that would have made a difference or not. I am very proud of myself for doing it. I am araid of heights but despite some major butterflies in my tummy I was not going to have my family experience it without me so I went, and I am glad I did for that alone.

I missed you guys though, I want to goback and hear what was up and what I missed but I also will jin you all in the thread next month. Can't wait!!!

Well, I finished November with a bang. Leave it up to me to decide to splurge on myself when A. I'm suppose to be spending less to save for the wedding and Disney, and B. Christmas is just around the corner. :headache: Oh well, I love my new boots! :rolleyes1

MickeyMomOfThree, welcome back and I agree, it is a gift so you can just relax and enjoy that purse.

ronmel, enjoy your boots. :-)

OMG!! Portillos is one of the first places we will go when we get to Chicago, with Lou Malnatis coming in a close second. Its funny that you know it and miss it so much too.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to adjust my grocery budget and number of no buy days for December.

I'm scared for December, I know it's going to be a budget killer...

Goal: 12 No Buy days

11/1 $0
11/2 spend - didn't bring my lunch cuz I was going to take a co-worker out for her birthday... then she needed to postpone
11/3 spend - had to run out & get milk, plus invites for DS's bday...
11/4 so far so good, but it is Bunco night, so I know I'll be putting in my cash for that... Hope this weekend is better - not such a great start for Nov!!
11/5 $0 Hurray!!!!
11/6 Spend day - haircut, coffee, grocery shopping, hardware to fix kitchen sink - but it was $5 in parts & I fixed it myself vs calling the plumber so it was worth every penny
11/7 spend day - bought part of DS's b-day present
11/8 spend - stamps, lunch & small grocery stop..
11/9 spend - lunch with the co-workers
11/10 $0
11/11 $0 I was close to spending money in the vending machine but I didn't want to mess up my no spend day
11/12 $0 I spent money today for work, but it wasn't my money
11/13 $0
11/14 - spend - I know for sure we will be spending because it is DS birthday tomorrow - taking a few of his friends bowling, etc...
11/15 $0
11/16 - spend - already spent $ for coffee this AM & know that I will be buying lunch today...
11/17 $0 was out on business so the $ spent on meals goes to them...
11/18 $0
11/19 spend
11/20 spend
11/21 spend
11/22 spend
11/23 spend
11/24 $0
11/25 spend
11/26 spend

11/29 working out of my normal office so I know I have already gotten lunch
11/30 had a bunch of coupons expiring that were matched up with Walgreens, CVS & Target ads so made a run... and we are now stocked up on Tissues between last week & this week for hopefully the entire winter :)

Well I did pretty well considering I had a birthday party & Thanksgiving at our house... We'll see how Dec goes...
