November Warriors-Our Dust tastes like Turkey.

Sarah - what adorable fur babies! So glad Sasha found a good home!

Marcia - Big Sur...I'm jealous. I would love to do that one some day! Glad you had a beautiful day for it!

Kate - Hope the shin stops giving you problems, but it sure hasn't stopped you from being a speedy little thing!!

Hope everyone else had a good training weekend! Did my 20 miler this morning... Every session over that 13 mile mark has been hard, with me thinking at the end that there is no way I could have gone any further. And yet I go back out the next week and go further. So I hope that proves true for the next 6 miles too!

Have a great week Warriors!

Hey Warriors,
I just wanted to let you know something that happened to me recently. On November 1 I was lined to at the start of the Augusta (Ga) Half Marathon. The gun goes off and off we go. At about the .5 mile point of the race I had settled into a nice 8:45-8:50 pace when disaster struck. The loop on my left shoe catches my right toe as it comes through stride. Now mind you the shoe itself was not untied the loop bounced just right and cought my toe. It probably would not happen again in 1000 races. Well, down goes Frazier! I picked myself up pretty quickly and surveyed the damage. No scrapped knees, one small scrape on the left hand and a little road rash on the right forearm. O.K. I can keep going. That is when I tak a couple of steps and realize that my arm is not going down to my side like it should. I stretch it a little but nope, something is definately wrong. At this point I head back to the start area where the medical folks take a look at me and tell my yep, your shoulder is out of place. Of course this is the first time they have had a dislocated shoulder in a running event and i was also their first customer of the day. They lay me down and pull on my arm a bit. Finally one says he thinks he felt it slip back into place. I get up and yes in deed I can once agaon put my arm down to my side. Here is the crazy thought that went through my mind. "Hey, it really isn't hurting that bad and I am sure you can catch up to the walkers. It has only been about 15 minutes. Lets get back on the course." Well, common sense took over and I headed to the car to go get an x-ray. Nothing broken except my pride!!!

Just to update everyone, on Tuesday I was back running. A little sore but back on the road. I actually ran 4 Teusday, 8 Wednesday, and 7 on Thursday. Unfortunately I caught a blasted cold and was out all last week. I look to get things back in gear tomorrow.

Moral of the story - Double and tropple knottign is not enough. Make sure to chedk the size of the loop also.

Wow Ken! What an amazing story. I'm so glad you are ok. I will learn from your experience.

Sarah, what a lovely fatty girl. I know she will be happy in your home.

Michelle, good job stretching those miles. I'm waiting for the time this session when I finally can say I can do this event. More scared as I get closer, but I am determined to keep trying.

Marcia, good job on your half. I got one of those "green" medals at the Erie half. It was made of recycled glass with a "deer hide ribbon." I'm worried it will break as I am preparing a display. It is tucked away separate from my others.

Kate, you are doing so well. You will definitely be able to complete the event. If anything goes wrong worst case is it will be slower than you want.

I got in 8.75 miles this weekend. I have no idea what is up, but I've got a new ache. The side of my lower leg is aching and I have no idea what it is or how to help myself. It runs just below the knee to about half way down the side. Feels like a muscle cramp. Ugh.

Wow, Ken!!! That is an amazing story and I am sure one you won't soon forget. I probably would have thought, oh I can catch up to the walkers. haha. Glad to know that you are recovering nice from the dislocated shoulder and the cold!! Keep up the good work!

-Tracy

Happy Monday Warriors!!

A beautiful day in NE Florida. I put in 5 miles in 45 min on Friday, and 6.25 in an hour today.

I did not get any miles in over the weekend due to work & College Football (hello.................priorities!!!!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2). I went to the UCF vs. Houstion game & it was, without a doubt, the most exciting, fun football game I have been to in years. Go Knights!!!

The bad news - I am starting to suffer from (what I think is ) plantar fasciitus in my left foot. Ugh. Lots of tape & ice for a while. This could not have come at a WORSE TIME!!!!!! I have a 1/2 M next week & the you-know-what in just a few weeks. Can't stop running, so I guess I have to just be really careful. Probably no PR's are in the cards for this fall.

Bleh. But it beats being a couch potato any day.............

ETA: t - 47 days until Donald & Goofy, Part 1, 48 days until Mickey.

KEN - Be careful. Shoelaces are deadly. Hope the shoulder heals quickly! Just a note - I tape my loops down.

Michelle - We never hit more than 20 for our full training. Those 6 always come just fine. (OK, they are not fun miles, but we finish) Grat job!

Sarah - COngrats on Sasha!

Jim - You should take a break. I would seriously not run befpre your half. You will not lose a thing and those legs adn feet may thank nyou for it with a great race! I had one full where I was sick and got 1 30 min run in ion teh last 2.5 weeks before the race. i was amazed at how happy my legs were for teh race. (That's a bit long of a break, but a short break or 2 would not hurt at all)

Kate? can you work on my Xmas shopping? Hope you get ina fun gruop run soon! ;)

Marcia - Congrats on Big Sur! Glad you had such a beautiful place to race!

Jeff - Hope the partnerr's abck gets better soon! Glad you took it easy on him! ;)

Tracy - LOVE teh quote! Funny, they put this in a Pooh special (the one where Christopher Robin goes to school). I thought all the Diney specials these days wer just done by Disney. Cool that they are still basing them on AA Milne stuff.

Got my 8-mielr in. SInce it had been almost a month since my half and 3 weeks since ToT, I was worried that it would nto feel liek a short run. I was very pleasantly surprised. ALso had a good 60 min run last night. Yay!!!

9.25 miles in 90 minutes today. I found information on how to properly tape my foot & it helped out sooooooooooooo much.

Except where the tape rubbed blisters on the side of my foot, but that's a small price to pay. it actually feels pretty good right now, but that's it for anything close to a LR through next Thursday.

I have work tomorrow (& a timed swim assessment :scared: ), so no running for at least 48 hours, and probably (if common sense applies.....) not until monday.

Jim - SO glad the tape is working!

I slacked last night. Got a blister on my foot from working in boots that weren't as broken in as I thoguth. :sad2: I needed the excuse, though. Body's tired. Hoping velcro kitty will stop needing to sleep on top of me soon.:upsidedow

I was a good boy and did no running today, but I did put in 44 miles on the bike instead.

Jim, you are a piece of work man. Amazing. Hope the PF eases for you. Right, slow it down and you should get it done January.

Carrie, sorry about your interrupted sleep.

Michelle, are you planning on doing more than 20 miles before January? I've gone 22 instead of 20 on my first marathon and discovered that it was not necessary. Take it easy on yourself as the miles get bigger. You don't want to risk injury.

Hope everyone stays healthy as time is getting close.

Hey Warriors!!

Checking in.

Jim: PF? Ugh, had it is both feet. Not much fun and took over a year for the one to go away and about 4 months for the other one.

I went to the Massage therapist and she found a nice orange size knot in my upper right hamstring and my right Upper ITband it very tight. The butt/hip area. So she worked on them for me while I bit my lip - OUCH! So, strecthing has been the order of the day and I try to do it throughout the day.

I have planned a WISH Virtual Turkey Trot 10K. Look for the thread if anyone is interested.

I have my Half Marathon coming up in 1 week and 3 days. Tapering is going good and with the tight IT band that works out well. Taking it easy and not pushing anything.

Hopeing everyone is doing well and hanging in there!!

-Tracy

Jim - Good boy! ;)

Tracy - Ouch!!! lol. Massage sounds so nice until you get there and to help anything it has to hurt like the DIckens. Will be doing a repeat for my piriforomis next week. It works wonders, though. HOep stretching and taper do teh trick ofr you. DO you have The Stick? Works well on knots like that. Again, it hurts, but....

Did 50 min on the TM last nitght. Ihate how slow I am on teh TM. Know I did better than the first TM of the season, though. Actually enjoyed myself fdor anout 1.5 to 3 min. lol. I hate the TM. Teach me to agree to Dh tha tif we skipped Wed, we'd do 50 min Thurs (an extra 5, not that that really makes up missing wed) rain or shin. It rained. :-(

Happy Friday Warriors!

No working out today. Just sitting here with my foot taped and iced trying to heal.

Kinda' in a bit of a taper mode for my 1/2 next Thursday. I work tomorrow and teach all day Sunday (which means a lot of standing, which is not good, but money talks,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,).

I'll probably do a bit of a short run on Monday & Wednesday & that will be it.

Hoping to break my "double secret" time goal. Time will tell.

Keep the Faith Warriors!! You guys all rock!!

Hey Jim...
I am in taper and I have a secret PR I would like to get for the Spacecoast, so we'll see!!

Good luck to you!!

Tracy

Got my 16 miles done today. It sure was not pretty, but at least it is done. I've managed it just barely within time. Right now there was not another 10.2 miles in me. Crunch time will be interesting here for me. Oh well, it will be what it will.

Glad to hear that some of you are tapering for your upcoming events. Here's hoping that this will work magic for you.

Lily YOU DID IT tho!!! Don't forget that. 16 miles is brilliant and there's still lots of time for that extra 10.2. Plus the magic will make those miles shrik away.

Tracy secret PR hey? I think that's fair enough. Agh enjoy your taper especially with your beautiful orange size beastie! Man how do those things ever make themselves?

Jim so sorry to read about PF, but equally thrilled the taping worked. Take care tho- not sure 44miles on the bike is you taking it easy!

Carrie Ha 1.5mins of enjoyment is def an improvement if i remember rightly. In a couple more years you'll love the whole run   Rain always wins- i've learned that over the years. I would absolutely do your christmas shopping- trying to hold back on wrapping until december... it's so hard :rotfl:

ken that is a good moral for us to remember, but sorry you had to find it out!

Michelle :woohoo: for 20miler. You did fantastically. I always convince myself that once you're psyched for a certain distance you couldn't mentally go further so who knows what you could have done if you had set your warrior mind to it! I don't plan to run any further than 20 and i'll be pushing it to make that now. Injuries have to come first this time. Did 21.3 before Boston- accidentally, not sure it made any difference.

me went for a confidence boosting run with instructor on thurs- we covered 6.0 miles in 51mins and didn't take it gently at all despite the plan. He was a bit eager to go for a fast run i think! Then beat the rain yesterday to do 12.35miles.... did it a little slower at the beginning and didn't have such strong urges to stop so obviously i'm pushing it too hard usually. Took 1hr 49 mins and my shin is ANGRY. Hopefully it'll go down again soon :goodvibes

So.... what date do your christmas decorations go up over there?

Way to log the miles Warriors.

My clinic group ran the front end of the marathon route, with the intent of doing 12 miles. Well, we ended up doing 14.5, just because. :lmao:

Have a great week everyone.

Way to go, everyone! It's really starting to hit crunch time now, isn't it? Today is my 45 day pay-by (but of course I got excited and paid it off early! :goodvibes ) date for my Disney package, so it's actually starting to feel real!

I got out for 8 miles yesterday, and 18 miles today, both chilly runs in the rain. I'm so tired of the rain here in Seattle - my regular path was a lake in some places. My run today was definitely not pretty; I had to walk mile 12 and then did a run 3 minutes/walk 2 minutes pattern for miles 13-17, before giving up and walking the last mile home. I also got "jumped" by two Golden Retrievers on retractable leashes (I HATE those things! Um... the leashes. I like Goldens.) right at mile 17 and ended up with my brand new Nikes FULL of mud, after stumbling into the soaking wet grass. I also might have shouted several choice words at the owner.... I was tired and annoyed and suddenly had freezing cold wet feet. I'm so tired of all my grumpy stories involving loose dogs. The perils of running with a German Shepherd that is irresistible bait to other dogs, I guess.

I definitely felt like I was done after mile 18. I really like your "mental distance block" theory, though, Kate. It makes me feel better!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hey hey,

Beginning of the week is the only time you'll see me in the gym before an early work start! By 6.45am i was peddling away to get in 9.3miles in 30mins so could get a shower and be on time. Worked a treat :) Calf's very bruised but i think that's good as it means the knots are releasing right?

Sarah those dogs sound very annoying- actually i was driving mum home from work and a cocker spaniel was on one of those leads on the pavement (oh sidewalk!) next to us. The owner wasn't watching and it ran into the road right infront of the car. Had to break. Hard. Owner just shook his head!!!!!

Hey my wonderful Warriors!!

Glad you guys are hanging in there with training and posting!!
I have been a bit in the fog with things. Had some personal stuff going on and been having a bit of a hard time dealing with it. LTO has also been going on.

Been using my Stick and my foam roller Katie!! OUCH yes, it does hurt!.

Still tapering as my Half Marathon is coming up this SUNDAY!!.

I have added to my list be putting "loosely" the WISH virtual turkey trot 10k on Thanksgiving day.
If you are interested in participating please find the thread and sign up!

have a great day!
Tracy
