November vs December?

My aunt and (hopefully) I are looking at visiting the parks during holiday time. We are seeing a lot of close by hotel availability during weeks that seem like they'd be busier. For example the week before Christmas, a notoriously crowded time has a lot of hotel rooms available. Do the locals drive up crowds that much even during blackout dates? Or are we on the early side for booking still? 3 months out feels so last minute to me! Could it really be not so bad 12/18-12/22 ish? One of the November weeks I thought might be ok, not race weekend or Thanksgiving, has really limited availably.

What am I missing?
Would you go Nov or Dec and why?

Weather is a non-issue because anything will beat our cold rainy Washington weather.

I'd totally book those Dec dates, but I've only been to xmas time once and it was on the week before Xmas and we loved it. Practically full hours but the crowds felt lighter than the Memorial crowds we'd encountered that summer.

I think you will be relatively ok after Thanksgiving week and before xmas week. The weekends will still be packed, especially with Candlelight Processional, but I agree with Gottalovepluto, book those December days. Hit the parks early and you should be fine.
