November/December 2012?

Hi Everyone...

I am feeling absolutely devastated at the moment... After 648 days of thinking, dreaming, planning and PAYING for our trip.. I think I have to cancel... Hubby has come home saying he is now retrenched from his job that he has been in for the last 16 years and I know that he won't have a problem getting another job but it's just the timing.... When he starts his new job there won't be any leave available. Every thing is so up in the air at present. I feel like I am in limbo. :confused3

omg hon, i'm so sad for you. i have my fingers crossed that a new job comes along soon -- hopefully they will honor the leave for your trip...

same thing happened to my brother, got 'retrenched' on the same day his son was born, 2 months ago. he's been on stacks of interviews and still nothing...

sending lots of :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: and good thoughts into the universe for you

:hug: I hope your DH finds a job really quickly.
Some employers are great and will still let you have the leave but unpaid that's what DH is doing he only started his new job in March and they were fine with our trip because it was already booked just concerned for him that he would have no income for that time.:hug:

I am so so sorry this has happened to you and your family. It must feel very overwhelming at the moment. I agree with the others that perhaps he will find a new job very quickly with an understanding employer. Fingers crossed for you.

So sorry to hear this :( I can just imagine how shattered you are both feeling right now. I really hope that your DH finds a new job very, very soon!!

Hugs hugs and more hugs!

My husband started a new job just after Easter and his new employer was happy for him to take leave but it will be without pay - hope your husband can find a new job quickly and his new employer is understanding.

Hugs again!

so.. paid for our flights today. we're definitely locked into our dates. and that means almost all our expenses are paid except our insurance, esta, internal flights, disney accomododation (that is paid when we check in) and spending/food money. woot!!

and we just realised that we're coming back on 12.12.12. woohoo.

Just booked our flights. Am so happy - we got flights to Orlando with Qantas and United for $1533 each!!! Just a few weeks ago I was quoted around $2,200 to go with Qantas. DH said 6 months out was the magic time period and he was right. So the trip is definitely going ahead now. So far we have our flights, accomodation for 14 nights at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek and our RCCL cruise booked. Need to get on with day to day planning so I can book any dining we require.

What dates are you flying.

We are leaving on Sat 24th November and departing on the 18th Dec (arriving Syd on the 20th).

wow... those are close to our dates. we fly out fri 23rd november and come back wed 12th dec, arriving bne on 14th.

hope you enjoy your 4 week trip..we could only afford time off for 3 weeks away from work..

I'm lucky that DH is his own boss :-). We had originally planned a 3 week trip but I've managed to stretch it out a few extra days. Now we're going to have 2 days at Universal after our cruise (which is after WDW). Have you started working on your day to day plans yet?

Lucky you got the flights cheaper. We leave 14th Dec and the prices have only gone up.

lol. that is lucky.. we have extra time up our sleeve but we don't want to fall behind at work - lucky for your hubby he is his own boss..

we stretched ours one extra day :)

we have some pretty specific day to day plans for the cruise (for part of each day anyway) and some specific activities for some days (i want a spa treatment, cruise excursions, palo, remy etc) but the rest of our trip, we're going to take mostly day by day to determine when we want to do certain things... we may have to lock in some more specific activities ie tours, excursions, but the stuff around that will be more of a free-flow activity :)

i'm incredibly OCD about the logistical planning, but carlo is very strict about the 'go with the flow' style of planning... although i have some specific plans about which parks to visit each day :)

we're under a bit of time constraints too - if it wasn't for meeting up with my entire family in Hawaii the week before Christmas we would not be going in December - my busiest month at work and not much better for DP, as it is we arrive back at 6am on the 26th and he will be off to work 3 hrs later...

I'm a planner and DP is not, lucky he is very easy going and will just do whatever I have planned. I am trying to just make vague plans for most of our time so we have plenty of time to relax and go with the flow but we only have 2 days in LA after disneyland and lots on the list so they will be busy days. I am just starting to nut out a basic plan of attack for that now so I know what the best options are for accommodation.

I feel the need to book and get everything organised as so far have only done flights, insurance and my AP - there is still so much more to pay for and 6 mths will fly by...

Hi Guys...

I would like to say a big THANK YOU for all the well wishes that you sent. After much discussion we have decided to cancel the holiday as we felt that letting new potential employers know about a 4.5 week holiday may be a deal breaker in this economy. Especially if DH finds contract work (he works in the computer industry and his software programs have been used here and overseas).

On the upside, we are now going next year so its back to counting for me (525 days to go) and as my brother pointed out to me - the majority of the fantasyland extensions should be completed. I will look into all the details later on.

I wish everyone a wonderful and magical time on your (very soon) upcoming holiday and I would love details on what was good etc about your trips. Are you allowed to say FB names and email addresses?

Enjoy and have a wonderful time.... :goodvibes

Aussiepossum - it sounds like you are feeling at peace with this decision and that is the main thing. As much as I adore holidays, permanent employment is obviously the priority so I think you have made a good call.

And now you get to start your planning all over again, and we all know the planning is nearly as much fun as the trip :)

Well done on your decision. It is a hard one to make. We were in this situation and had to postpone for a year later. It worked out for the best as we got to do even more :thumbsup2

this sounds like you've made the best decision for you and your family and your current circumstances... sad for you that you're not going this year but so happy that this decision is one that suits your family and that you get the joy of planning another trip for next year...

and who knows... maybe it will be an even bigger trip next year :)

Just booked my girls into the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique! In the Castle on our last full park day - and after the make over we dine with the princesses at CRT:)

Can't wait to see their faces when they spin around in the chair!

Aussipossum - that is a really tough decision you have had to make. And I know it sounds cliche but the next 12 months will fly by - and you will enjoy the holiday so much more when you feel financially secure.

Poss - you've done the best thing for your DH and family. We had to postpone a trip to the UK for a year because of work concerns. You do what needs to be done and what will ensure a wonderful trip when you eventually get to have it. Hugs to your family.
