So, Veterans Day is Nov 11.
U.S. Thanksgiving is Nov 28.

The Holiday overlay comes on Nov 21.

So I thought it would be fun to go around Nov 17-26 or so. Then we could see the park non-Christmassy, then transformed to Christmassy!

But, will it be really busy right before Thanksgiving? What dates do you all think will be busy?

Any advice would be great!
Thanks!

I don't know about Veteran's Day, but most schools in the US get at least the Thursday (Thanksgiving) and Friday off that week. In Utah we also get the Weds. before off. I don't know about California?

It sure sounds fun to see the Halloween decorations AND the Christmas decorations. Then you can see the RDCT fireworks and the holiday fireworks!

How many days will you actually spend in the parks? Hope you have a really great time!

The week of Thanksgiving will be VERY busy, but the week before is usually pretty empty. FYI Thanksgiving is on the 27th, not the 28th this year. Our kids (in Northern CA) have the whole week off of Thanksgiving.

I'm in So Cal, and I think the majority of schools are out for that whole week (I know we are, but we're heading to AZ :rotfl: ). Dh & I honeymooned the week of Thanksgiving at Disneyland and it was GREAT, but that was almost 12 years ago and the schools didn't get the whole week off back then - I think it is more crowded now.

Just a random comment... we've gone to DL several times in Nov, and the holiday overlay is normally done by Veterans Day. Wonder why they are doing it later this year... :confused3

While our No. CA school district does not have the entire week off (we are off Wed - Fri), we are always down at DL Thanksgiving week, and yes, there are crowds (not as bad as summer crowds though). The week between Veteran's day and Thanksgiving week is normally a good week. In 2006, we did the Disney Cruise that week, and I must say WDW is mighty busy during that time(thankfully we live in CA and not FL, so the mouse house is not as busy).

yep your right...central cali does too...If I had to pick one of the two sets of dates the OP put, I would go the week before Thanksgiving...

Week b4 thanksgiving..

We usually go on Thx giving Sunday.. It is realtively slow.. Our kids here in So Cal beach area... We have the entire week of Thanksgiving off.

Albertan mom, we faced the same delemma when picking our dates. All year we have planned on being in DL during Thanksgiving, but a couple weeks ago, we chickened out! We just don't want to face the crowds.

Looking at the schedule, and since the week before T-day has short hours(meaning that the shows are limited), we decided to start on the 15th...that way we have the 15th and the 16th to try to catch the 'Remember' fireworks display, which is amazing. Then, we will be there on Friday the 21st when all the fun Holiday stuff, like the ranch and the parade and the holiday fireworks display start up. Best of both worlds! ;)

Thanks for your input.
So when you say the week of Thanksgiving is busy, do you mean Monday 24-Sun 30?

I still think it would be so much fun to see both. I am thinking Nov 17-24 now. Hoping to avoid crowds, as DH hates them.

Any more advice would be great!!

Now, to figure out the hotel.....any suggestions?
(want as close as possible)

Yes, from what I understand, the week beginning with the weekend before Thanksgiving, gets progressively more and more crowded. So, the 22nd and 23rd would be so so, and then get a little more busy each day until Wednesday and Thursday, which would be packed. I think it stays very busy on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well.
