November 8, 2008 7 Night Eastern 11/8/2008 11-8-2008 FIRST POST UPDATED ON 10/16/08

We were able to rent a car for that day, so Budget's open! and plan on repeating what we did on our last visit...drive around to the beaches and then end up watching the planes land on our head at Maho Beach. Despite the holiday, I can't imagine an economy that relies so heavily on cruise ship traffic having nothing open. I will send an email to the Sunset Beach bar just to make sure, but they and other similar outfits stand to make big money on holidays. I imagine a place like the mall in Marigot might be shut, but the souvenir places and bars and other spots in walking distance of the port would pay heavily being closed when a cruise ship was in port. Interesting question, though.

All the shops in P-burg will be closed. They said that they are very strict on that. The shops at the terminal will be open. In Marigot, most will be closed. There is some type of race on that day also. Don't know what that will be like on the roads or what the route is.

I am hoping to find out more on what they may be doing as far as festivals. Maybe there will be something really cool to see, but they said that it was too early. They do not have everything planned yet.

We are doing the zip-line in the am and then we will just see what is going on.

And this is bad, because....?

They also only do Palo's brunch and High Tea on days at sea as well. I think it's just because that's the only times they can have them and really feel like people will show up.

Be aware that of those two martini tastings listed, one is a gin martini tasting and one is a vodka martini tasting. Usually, the gin one is the first one and the vodka one comes second. We don't like gin martini's, but have to slow ourselves down on the vodka based martinis.

Sorry I haven't been here in a while. Between working the two jobs and trying to get stuff done on the weekend not to mention that this is what I want to do with my computer: :badpc: I haven't had much time to get on the boards.
Hope everyone is well. On our cruise Nov 2006 three of us went to the martini tasting :drinking1 Yuck, yuck, yuck!! I have to say it was not for any of us. They tasted bad. Guess we weren't martini drinkers don't you agree Faireygodmother? I can say that comparing martinis to scotch, I normally drink scotch on the rocks, the martini was a hard drink to get down my throat. Harder than the first sip of scotch I ever had and scotch is a like it or not kind of drink.
According to the calendar this is a busy week starting with today. For some of us today was Palm Sunday we then have Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Tomorrow is St Patty's Day :shamrock: and I believe we also have the first day of Spring this week.
Trivia: The last time Holy week and St Patricks' Day were celebrated in the same week was in 1940 the next time that occurs will be in 2160. (I maybe off by that future day, but not by much.) Most of us won't be around then so this is a special occurance happening in our life time. If your parents are still around they are observing this occurrance a second time in their life.
Keep well everyone as there appears to be several different illnesses  going around from flu to colds with terrible coughs that linger on and on. Everyone around me at work and elsewhere are all down with some kind of flu. So far so good for me and my family.
Well off I go to finish up :laundy: It seems the laundry never ends and there are only 3 of us.
Take care all have a fun St Patrick's Day and a Blessed Easter.

Fantastic Four...my DH will be tuxed up and I'll be wearing a long gown for both formal night and whatever night we go to Palo. Two cruises ago we had a big Disboards dress up photo on formal night and the ladies wore tiaras and long black gloves. I'll be wearing mine (not too many other occasions to do it!) We LOVE to dress up.

Fabulous Disney serendipity moment...on the Magic back in '05 DH and I are in the elevator alone all glammed up en route to Palo on formal night. The elevator door opens and surprise! Standing outside the elevator door on deck 10 is Goofy in HIS tuxedo! We had this funny interchange (wow, look at YOU!) and then we traded places and he got in the elevator with his handler. No one else was around. Got the picture of us with Goofy somewhere...

We've got a Wonder cruise coming up first in June before this one. It will be cruise #10 for us...we take the kids on Wonder and come by ourselves on Magic ;-)

That sounds neat meeting Goofy like that. I would love to see the picture.
Goofy is great can't imagine him in a tux :)

Well it sort of worked. How come everyone elses has the "origanally Posted by..." I didn't get that. Anyway.

Hello everyone. It has been a while.

Between the snow days, sick kids and girl scout cookie time, it is crazy at my house. We are having snow and ice today, and tomorrow we (my scouts and I) are to be outside a Wal-Mart pushing cookies. Please pray for no snow and at least 20 degrees!!

Pixie Dust II : So glad to hear from you! I am so happy that everything is working out for DH. Will look forward to meeting you.

I am lost on "Lost" Are they showing new episodes at 8 or 9? I watch Survivor at 8 and then lost at 9, but i think I am missing things.

I am going to pick up some "cruise" shirts for DH this weekend. On sale at Kohls.

Time to put the kids to bed, Good night!

Howdy all, another dreay winter day here in Chicago has us pining away for Castaway Cay....

I have to make one small change to our info. After much soul searching, we decided to dwongrade from a Cat 3 to a Cat 4. I will be sad to leave the space and goodies behind but the $3000 difference makes me feel better! We still get to cruise and have a bit more spending money so all is well.

Have a good day and think sunny thoughts!

It doesn't make an difference where you sleep or shower just as long as you're on the cruise to have fun. What are you worried about I'm cat 11. $$$$ make all the difference when you want to have fun. My grandmother traveled by ship all over the world and told me when I was young, to never get the expensive rooms as you are rarely in them. The ships have plenty on board to keep you busy whether in port or at sea.

Bumping us up..... We were on page four. I hope everyone is doing well. Not to long now.

Hi Everyone- Just checking in and catching up. If life keeps getting in the way of my obsessive planning - the next few months should fly by. Have a Happy Easter. Will check back soon.

Pandamom, I have not seen you on the board for a month - hope all is well in your corner of the world.

When you get the chance, could you update your first post showing the group roster. It looks like the last update was from page five. I have been trying to keep a running list of those of us that joined since then. It would be great to have it all listed in your first post.

Here are the 40+ people I have beyond your last update:

TwoKings, DD16
CanadaFour, DH, DD10, DD4
Morgan4, DH, DD12, DD8 (plus friends: DW, DH, DS13, DD11)
SillySully, DH, DD11, DD10, DS7
BigDog7775, DW, DS2, DD2 (plus 21 friends/relatives)
Gecko1, DW (Lilo-Relocated), DD9, DS8
Basfreeman, DW
Old School Pooh Fan, DH, DS8, DS6
Morris*Family
FantasticFour, DH, DD10, DD5
Zoom, DH, DS8

And the group keeps growing... :yay:

Opps, just noticed that "Basfreeman" has not joined this meet yet. He must be on my list from the CC boards. Not many on the list over there, mostly DISers stopping in to see who has not dicovered the DIS boards yet :rotfl:

I did a search and found that people on the DIS Community board were wishing him Happy Birthday a couple years ago. So maybe a lapsed DISer??? Maybe he will rejoin the fold. ;)

The time is sure flying by, at least for me it is!

My mom and both just ordered some new bags, to take with us for our trip off Disneyshopping. It's always fun to get some new stuff for the trip!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter!

Well, I hate to break it to you all, but we have to bow out the cruise this year. After 3 years of seeing what happens, we have been blessed with a pregnancy that puts my due date a week after sailing. Alas, Disney does not want me on that ship past my 24th week, and rightfully so. So, we're putting it off indefinitely until kid# 3 can handle the kids zone (or whenever GoofyFD plans the next cruise for his family).
I think we're going to take our saved $$ and hit another eastern caribbean cruise this summer for a cheaper price. It won't be Disney, and the kids will be MAJORLY bummed, but our only other choice was the Mexican Riviera trip this summer and it was going to be 4K more for our same category even though we were saving on the plane fare. For a one-income firefighter family, that's just not possible. :firefight Oh well. I cried today when I called Disney and learned of the price jump, but we're trying to keep thinking this is all how it was supposed to be planned. It's out of our control.
I'll keep checking in and shoot me a message if you want me to make you the door signs that I already made for the trip. I won't be using them now. :sad1: I don't mind in the least. :thumbsup2
Night all!

Hi! Congratulations!!!! I'm sorry you 'll miss the cruise but hey, i'll take the pregnancy anytime over this cruise too. We only have one child (DS7) and we've been trying for a second one but it's been a while now, i don't know if i'll get pregnant again:sad2:. I also keep checking diff cruise lines for this summer in case i get pregnant. Try RCL's Liberty of the Seas of Freedom of the Seas. I would love to have your door signs if you still have them. Well, at least you're going on vacation sooner than us! If you guys want to see the Magic, you can dine at any of those restaurants in Long Beach so you can see it when it pass by any oceanview restaurants. We're actually gonna do this in May (memorial weekend). We might go to Acapulco rest.
Good Luck on finding the right cruise line for you guys this summer. Have Fun!!!

Old School Pooh Fan - Congrats on the great news! Sorry you will be missing the cruise but what a wonderful reason why. I wish you a very happy, healthy pregnancy. Please check in and let us know how you are doing.
Bye for now.

Old School Pooh Fan,

Congratulations :jumping1: Great news after waiting so long!

Sorry we won't get to meet you and your crew this time around, maybe next time. Enjoy that mom time - Rick & Ang

:jumping1: CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW ADDITION. Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. You can always rebook a cruise, but this baby will bless your life forever!:grouphug:

Well... I have been off the boards for a few weeks of so. We suffered a string of losses in our household with two deaths in the past three weeks and a third that will almost certainly be this year as well. My father passed (after a short but rapid decline) and my brother-in-law (who at 20 yrs older than DH, raised him like a dad when their father exited their lives when DH was 3) passed without warning or signs of illness. My mother-in-law turns 99 this week and isn't doing well (few do at that age, I guess). This will be a year of sadness, felt most especially profoundly by our DDs. I need this cruise now more than ever and can barely wait to be warmed by the sun.

It was actually delightful to read of Old School Pooh's pregnancy news. Funny how the news of an impending birth (even from a virtual stranger) helps balance the loss.

Endings and beginnings.

Mary
