Oh wow! That is too bad!! I haven't been tracking the weather on the east coast... I didn't even know there was a storm there. It must be a pretty bad storm that they don't even feel it's safe to leave the dock! Do you know what the forecast is.... is the storm going to let us anytime soon?

I wonder what they do if they can't even leave port until the next day due to a storm??

Let's HOPE this won't happen to us on Nov 5!!! :worship:

Thank you for all the booking information-after reading all the ways prices can change I can see why people advise not to use DVC points to cruise. I think next time we'll rent our points and book a cruise when the dates are first available. I don't see us cruising again until we could bring our daughter and her husband and our grandson-he's only 15 months right now and my daughter has no interest in cruising until he's older. Maybe 5 or so. Here's a question for the experienced cruisers with children: what age do you think is the best age to take small children for the first time?? :)

Who can tell me how to post a picture? The "insert image" button above doesn't make sense to me. I cannot browse to pick the picture I want. Help!:confused::confused:

Don't know if anyone answered this yet, so here goes:

To post photos, go to photobucket.com and set-up a free account. Then, upload your photos. When you upload them, there will be a little drop-down menu with links in them. The last one is an IMG link; click on that and it will copy it to your clipboard. Then, come back to disboards and when you want to insert the photo, click on the "insert image" button on top (looks like a little mountain) and paste your link in there. Your photo should show up.

We got back from the cabin today after a short weekend visit, had a good time. There was some kind of race going on, so a lot of people were up there for that. Then, back home, mowed the acre of grass, weed whacked, blew, and now I'm pooped. Waiting to watch Dexter (DW's favorite show) and then probably to bed.

Its after 8 P.M. in Florida right now and the Dream and one Carnival ship are still in port. Theres a tropical depression thats hitting the area right now. I saw 51 MPH wind gusts at the port and terenchial rains. Waves are too high in the ocean to be safe for them to go. As soon as the storm moves on they will head out to sea. They can make up time really easy if needed.
I sur ehope its gone by morning.
I know everyone is still enjoying all the events on the ship accept the outdoor decks, which will be closed off due to dangerous weather and slippery decks..

One Carnival ship headed out at 4:30 but by 5 it was too dangerous.
i bet that ship is racing like crazy to steer away from the storm.

I will look at the web cam in the morning ot see if the ship is still there.

Claire,

If you want the child to remember a few things after they grow up then 5 or 6 years of age is probably about right and they are still young enough to enjoy the Magic of the characters.

But if its just going to be memories from the parents an for the kids ot have fun at the present moment. Age 2 and up I would say. But every kid is different.

We had an 18 month old grandosn with us once and he loved every minute of it. He played in the Mickey ear, we walked the inside hallways and sat in the port hole windows that are made for that, then he loved the animated movies that were playing and he also sat through allo the shows in the WD theater.

He had the time of his life and we have memories of a life time but he wont remember any of it. For us it was worth the price to bring him and his sister, even though we knew he wouldnt remember. His sister was 4 or 5 at the time and she doesnt remember it either but still she had a blast while there, so it was worth it for us to see them having so much fun.

Like I said, every kid is different, so it has to be a personal choice, no set age is right for every kid.

It appears that I am not smart enough to post a photo here so that it shows up. What do I need to do. Please help!

I think most people here, including myself go to www.photobucket.com and set up a free account.
From there upload your photos from your computer to Photobucket. It is easy to figure out how to do it once you see their site.

Once you do that, you can run your cursor over the photo you want to post and a pop up will show. The top line says E-mail
them a couple other lines below that, I think 4 lines in all.
Most tell you what they are for.
The bottom one if you click on the url there and it will say copy Then just paste it on your post and it will appear once you hit the submit button.

I think it will make more sense once you work through their site.

There we go!!! It worked. Both costumes will be on the ship but only one will make it to Pirate night!!

Yeah, it was past her bed time and so she was ready for bed. but it's all good now. She is in bed!

Hmmm... I think the earliest Disney memory is one we still joke about in our house. We were in the Carousel of Progress when one of those severe summer storms hit. To the point that we ended up stuck in the last room watching the scene over and over again - eventually without sound, which is truly a unique experience. My brother was potty training at the time and decided he had to go to the bathroom and could not wait. Dad finally convinced the castmember to let them out - but with the understanding that they could not come back. As soon as they got outside and saw the rain, my brother decided he didn't have to go - but it was too late, they couldn't get back in! So now, before we head into the Carousel of Progress, we always check the weather!

My favorite Disney memory - that's a tough one. Probably the time I was picked by one of the Tapestry of Nations puppets to dance with him during the parade. Or maybe the time Mom got us fun Christmas ears to wear at the Christmas party? Or high tea at the Grand Floridian with my sister-in-law and three neices? Or watching the progress of the Dream at home while counting down the days to the Maiden Voyage? oh, or dinner at Remy? Or floating down the Sassagoula River heading back to POR and enjoying being with Mom and Eve after a long, good day?

I just read the storm is so bad the Dream and Carnival ship will spend the night in port. They hope to leave by 7 a.m.
I guess the Fantasy went out at 4:30 and was heading away from the storm but just out of the channel they had winds of 60 knots and 20 foot waves.

Sounds like Disney made the right call for safety reasons.

It would feel strange to be on a cruise where the ship didnt move all night.
I bet alot would have got sea sick if they had gone out in that kind of storm.

Kathy

I think you are right, 5 or 6 is a good age for Disney, but i think watching little ones have so much fun and being so curious is priceless too.

My kids have be fortunate enought to go to Disney/or on the Disney cruise almost every year since DD was 3 and DS 6months. So i guess the early years i have lots of memories, and as they got older they have their own memories. I will have to ask them what their favorite memory is!

Here's a question for the experienced cruisers with children: what age do you think is the best age to take small children for the first time?? :)

We didn't start cruising with our kids until they were 7 & 9, and that was a great age. But, based off of what I've heard from people I know, and what I've observed on the ship myself, and just based off of what I know about babies and toddlers on the ship, I would suggest age 3 or older is the best age.

I say that because the kid's clubs are open for ages 3 on up, and the kid's clubs are included in your cruise price. If you have a child under the age of 3, and you want to use the kid's clubs, you have to use the nursery (I think it's called Flounders), and you have to pay by the hour for it, and you have to make reservations for your time slots (you can't just drop them off whenever, like the kid's clubs... and the nursery is only open certain times of the day, unlike the kid's clubs that are open all day long morning till night). I've also read that they only allow you to book a certain amount of hours total on your cruise (I don't know how many hours, but I know I've read it's not a lot).

The other thing is if the child is not potty trained, they are not allowed in the pools, even if they use swim diapers. Swim diapers are not allowed in the pools at all. There is a little water splash area for babies and toddlers who aren't potty trained, but it's a very small area.

My brother and his wife went on their first Disney cruise when their daughter was 2 and she was still in diapers. They did not realize the rule that kids not potty trained cannot go in the pools. They said it was SO hard because at home, she loves to be in swimming pools, so on the ship she would cry to go into the pool, but they couldn't let her, and because she was so young, she didn't understand why they wouldn't let her go into the pool. They said it was really hard and wished they had waited to go on the cruise until she was potty trained.

Other than these reasons, I think there are no other reasons that would make it hard to bring a baby or toddler on the cruise.

But, like Kathy said, there really is no wrong age!! I see babies and toddlers on the ships all the time, and I know everyone has a great time, so it's just what the families want to get out of it.
