I just posted this trend on my wedding blog so hopefully some of my guests will pop in!

I haven't checked this thread for a while and it's nice to see so much activity!
Congratulations, Kathleen on your upcoming wedding! How exciting!
My DH and I are empty nesters and have not cruised DCL since 1998 (!) We are DVC members and decided to use points for this cruise since we're not planning a trip to WDW until late 2012. We are looking forward to it very much!
Kathy, thank you for the information on the FE-I am a disaster when it comes to crafty things-but it does look like alot of fun! I will read some more of the information-when do you know how many people will participate? Will you set a deadline?

I guess maybe a week before the cruise as some will leave early for Florida to stay at the parks before the cruise.
I hate to tell someone who joins just before the cruiser they cant do something fun that is meant for everyone to enjoy.

I do understand people like to be finished with gifts ahead of time too. I usuallly bring a couple extra items or buy them on the ship for last minute people. There are no rules to this, its just for fun.

So if we have people who join late and your done or dont have any more room in your luggage for more gifts then just skip them and others can give or just grag something from the ship to give.

In the past i have brought even a bag of wrapped candies and given them a couple of times to late comers to cover for those who cant give to the late people. So it all works out ok with out without a deadline.

You dont need to be crafty to participate in this. I have received losts of gifts that were nice things that were not crafty. Post cards, post it notes, Disney themed pens and pencils, glow braclets or necklaces which are fun to wear on pirate night, and of course candy and pre packaged cookies.
Let me know when you decide.

Just stopping by at lunch to see if anybody had posted.
Sadly no new posts :sad2:

I do expect us to have 1000 or more posts by cruise time.:thumbsup2

Some threads I have been on did 35 pages or more a day:eek:
I admit that was too much to keep up with but it was fun to see how excited everyone was to post during lunch breaks, coffee breaks, before and after work and dinner.

Anybody going to get pillow cases or matte style frames signed?
I did pillow cases a few cruises back and they look great. I think I may look do it again so I will have 2 sets. I asked for all the signatures and so they are covered with them.

My last home had the spare bedroom themed Disney so those pillow cases would looked great in there. I dont have a spare room right now but when I do I will be ready to decorate it.:goodvibes

If anybody does pillow cases one tip is to wash and iron them before the cruise. The markers set in better that way.

I'll be back this evening.

You see I didnt fib, I post everyday, several times a day when possible.:yay:

catch you later,

Kathy

Here is an example of a FE for the people who have never done it..

Good morning fellow cruisers:goodvibes

Looks like I am the only one without plans this weekend since i am here posting and your not.:lmao:
I do have BIG plans for today. It's called doing the :laundy:

After that I am meeting up with Mr. Vacuum for a quick romp around the place to collect all the dog hair.
Then I have a play date with my pups for a fast walk around the neighborhood before it gets too hot. If I just had roller skates they could pull me around on the sidewalks. They actually walk me, I dont walk them. 160 pounds of dogs is a lot of muscle.;)

We discussed excursions last night and I think since w ehave done so many on these islands we are going to do the Mountain hike on St, Maartin and then instead of touring St. Thomas ( we have done many times) I think we will go to St. Johns and do the island tour. We have done it before but our son has never been to St. Johns so this way he can see it too.

That still leaves time for shopping on both islands. On CC we usually rent bikes and go down both trails. Then go to the adult beach for lunch to see if they have steaks or not. They have a bit of a different menu than the Cookie's on the family area.

Then back to look at the shops and to relax and enjoy the beach area. Usually around 2 p.m. many families tend to head back to the ship for some reason so the crowds die down nicely. DH and DS will probably try out the new water slide too. Sometimes we mess around in the grouper game room.
I hate getting back on the ship at CC. It means thats the last time we will board the ship this trip:sad1:

If this is your first time to CC please dont just stay at the beach, even with little kids walk over to see the game room, rent a bike and ride the 2 paths to explore the other side of the island. One path has a observation tower which gives a great view of the island. You can even walk it, but its a long walk.

They have paved the paths so its an easy walk or ride for all. They have bikes with kids seats on the back, small bikes for kids even some with training wheels so the kids can join in the fun too. They rent for an hour but nobody ever checks you in so if your 10 minutes late its ok. They understand kids sometimes take a bit longer to ride around.

I know people who have been on CC 4 or 5 times and never gone farther than the family beach. Please take some time to explore the island. There are beautiful flowers to see too.

Hope to see someone drop by today.
Back later today,

Kathy

Just received my copy of PassPorters Disney Cruise Line 9th edition-hot off the press.

Will be visiting my Mom & brother in Florida in a week and will bring the book with me so my Mom can read. I've already read it online and also the Cruise tips.

I had had a RCI 7 day cruise booked in November and a 3 day disney Dream booked for April vacation. But I was so much more excited about the Disney cruise that when an affordable Handicap acessible cabin opened up for this trip I jumped on it and cancelled the other two.

Need to buy or make a FE.

Need to stick to my diet before cruise.

Need to stick to my budget before cruise.

Need to rent travel scooter for my Mom-thinking of the very small "Travel Scoot".

Laundry is done except for a mountain of clean clothes to fold.

Have you ordered the FREE DVD off the cruise line web site yet? It is fun to watch and will really help get the excitement going!!!
Your mom and brother may like to watch it too.:goodvibes

From your ticker it looks like your doing great on your diet:cheer2::cheer2:
Keep up the good work.

Kathy

yes, i have the DCL and the RCL DVDs. But the information is so general.

I actually have photos of cabin 6147 on the toolbar at the top of my screen.

Love the chipmunks + Magic photo. Could I have a copy and instructions to make a doorsign?
We went to Orlando/WDW a lot to visit my Mom. So oneday while camping and Trish was about 3, i pointed out a chipmunk climbing a tree.
She laughed and said -thats not a chipmunk,it's too small and doesn't talk.

Actually not doing well weightwise. Medifast was 2 diet ago. Off to delete ticker and try and find a cruise one.

Thank you Kathy for all your information. Wish I lived in FL: You are doing great on your weight loss... Your secret for others before the cruise???

ALSO: Help in finding some one to o name fills for the doors... :)

Is anyone else booking Palo or an excursion tomorrow? We will probably explore St. Maartin on our own but will book an excursion for St. Thomas. I'm a little worried about getting back to the ship on time since the departure time is so much earlier.
Kathy, we have the 2009 edition of the Passporter Cruise guide-do you think it's worth purchasing the newest one?

Probably the only big changes in the Passporter would be The Dream information but i havn't seen the new one yet myself.

Directions for door signs.

DCL ONLY allows magnetic signs.

The easiest way to do this is to go to a store like Office Max or Best Buy or some Walmarts and buy Magnetic sheets. Or some call magnetic paper. Usually found with the speciality computer papers.

It will be the size of a standard sheet of paper which I believe is 8 1/2 by 11 inches or close ot that. Do NOT buy long skinny strips some sell!! Only standard paper size.

It is heavier than photo paper but will work great in all standard printers. Just use like regular paper in your printer.

Once you find a picture you want to use print it off on regular paper to make sure it is sized properly. If not you may need to re-size although 99% of mine are already sized correctly.
Then just print off the picture like you would any photo onto the magnetic paper and you have a door sign.:thumbsup2

If you have a good paint program you can write on your picture too, then print but I cant offer instructions on that becuase every computer is different for paint programs.

The paper is usually in a cardboard wrapper with 5 to 7 sheets per package and averages $12 to $15 per package. So its easy to make different ones for different days if you want to.

If you don't have a printer you can still make a cute sign by using the magnetic paper and cute stickers from any good craft or scrapbooking store or on line you can google to find all kinds.

Look for Disney themed or tropical or cruising themed. Some are even 3-D stickers for a cool effect. You can buy sticker letters in all styles, colors and they work great on the signs too. I have even found stickers that are specific for St.Maartin and St. Thomas before.

Many make a sign for special occassions and put on their door for that day too.

my oldest grand daughter once took a 5 x 7 photo of grandpa (my DH) and he was sleeping on deck 4 on the Magic with his mouth wide open and put it on a door sign.:lmao:

She wrote this below the photo.

Here's my grandpa on deck 4,
Oh my how he can snore!
If you see him around the ship,
Please tell him you saw this!

We didn't know about the sign but had a few funny looks and smiles over a few days them someone said we saw the sign. We smiled and thought ok, what sign?
They must have us confused with someone else.:lmao:

Then Ana found us and told us to come see something she made in her cabin.
Of course once we saw the sign it all made sense:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

So go wild and have fun with your signs!

Hope this helps so you know how to do the signs now, if you still have questions please just ask and I will try to be more clear.

Kathy

I have a favor to ask of everyone here.

I have a terrible memory for names.:headache:

So for the next couple of weeks when you post ,could you please sign your name at the bottom of your post so I can start associating your name with your posting name.
That will really help to sink it into my old brain.:cloud9:

Thank you!!
