November 24, 2012 ~ Western Fantasy ~ Pachyderms of the Caribbean

I have Teva sandals that I love and they worked great on the cruise in ports and on the ship during the day. Dinner I obviously had some dressier shoes on.

We have been to CC many times and we have never done anything except pretty much relax on the beach and play in the sand and water. We have had excursions booked a few different times but they have always been cancelled due to the weather. Someday I would like to parasail and check out the rest of the island but it never seems to take priority over just relaxing and enjoying our day.

i have a quick question, and i don't mean to hijack the thread here, but what are your recommended shoes while on the cruise? i imagine you do a fair amount of walking around the ship, and on excursions etc. do most people just wear sandals/flip flops/runners, or do you have a specific shoe you like to take, like crocs or teva or birkenstocks etc for all the walking that you do???

we went to DLR last year and i wore flip flops the entire time. by the end of each day, my feet were burning... any recommendations for a combined wdw/cruise trip for someone not used to that kind of walking??

My feet are super sensitive and I like wearing flip flops on the ship. I don't find that I'm walking around enough that they start to hurt. I don't wear cheap plastic flip flops though. I highly recommend flip flops by Sanuk (made with yoga mats!) or Clarks, which have more arch support. Flip flops on the ship are convenient because I can easily take them off and slip them on. We usually spend sea days at the hot tub, pool, or spa anyway.

For port days though, I wear Merrell low top hiking shoes. They can handle any excursion I've thrown at them and let you walk around port towns too without being bulky.

New Question of the week:

What do you plan to do on Castaway Cay?
[Part 2 for return cruisers] What have you enjoyed previously on Castaway Cay?

Right now, the only plan on Castaway Cay is snorkeling and relaxing on Serenity Bay. Though we may try a Waverunner but I have to convince DH!

In our past trips to Castaway Cay, we've done...

Snorkeling in the Lagoon and Serenity Bay
Stingray Adventure (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)
Cabana couples massage
Bike rentals and rode around the whole island

Castaway is our down time destination. Last year we just relaxed in a few lounge chairs between Pelican Point and the entrance to the snorkel area. We rented tubes but didn't find we used them a whole lot. Spent a lot of time building sand castles with DD (the shop sells sand pails - we bought one that kind of looked like Cinderella's castle). We just swam the rest of the time. We didn't do any character meets on the island; we might change that this year around, especially if Capt Jack Sparrow is a good one this time around.

I second the Teva sandals. I've had mine for about 5 years and they're still great.
Recommend whatever you choose be waterproof so you can wear them on the beach and in the water (eliminates the need to bring a pair of water shoes). I prefer something that has a strap on the top of your foot so you don't have to worry about losing your sandals in the current, and clips for the straps rather than velcro.
DW prefers Crocs but I'm not a big fan.

I also would like to be added to the meet for November 24 Fantasy Cruise and for the FE exchange. Cabin #6098.

Thanks,
The Sanchez

serenity bay is all we have planned. Not heard of the look-out tower.

Last trip we went back to the ship around 1:00 and really enjoyed the quiet of the ship and the pool area. It was really relaxing.

Not heard of the look-out tower.

Here are some pictures (not mine as I haven't been there yet . . . )

found out from a family member that carlo is planning on proposing while on the trip, so even thought the circumstances job wise will be terrible, should be a pretty fun & romantic trip :)

Good on ya for keeping optimistic. Don't worry, won't say anything on board until you officially break the news to us. But you better find us and tell us how he does it!

New Question:

Which "Main Dining Restaurant" [MDR: Animator's Palate, Enchanted Garden & Royal Court] are you looking forward to the most?

I think Royal Palace - the menu looks similar to Lumiere's and Triton's and I really love the French Onion Soup and the Vegetarian Pasta dish.

We have been on the 3-night Dream twice and have yet to make it to main dining (Did Palo/Remy/Palo) both times. So we are looking forward to trying them all on our longer cruise! Also excited to see how the Palo bunch compares to the Magic. It's our favorite meal on DCL!
