We've always dined at tables with at least 8 people. It lets us share our day, as well as hearing what others have been up to. You can learn about what other people are really enjoying about the cruise, and find about activities you might not have known about. We have always been lucky and had great table mates. On our last Disney cruise, we were paired with another family that had a daughter the same age as ours, and they formed an immediate friendship that lasted throughout the whole cruise. They asked to hang out at the pool together, and played together in the kids club.
You also find some interesting people when you're at a larger table. One year we sat with someone I swore was Jackie Chan. Many years ago, I kept getting asked if I was Tiger Woods (personally I don't see the resemblance - We're not even the same flesh tone...). Was good for a laugh.
