November 24, 2012 ~ Western Fantasy ~ Pachyderms of the Caribbean

thanks for the most recent update. all these snippets about disney and the cruise keep me excited for our disney cruise!!!

quick query for cruisers who have cruised before -- do you like to do activities together as a family, couple etc or do you like to plan some activities together and some individually, or do you just go with how you're feeling on the day? we're big on pre-planning here, and while we aren't one of those 'we must be doing this thing at this time each day' kind of people, we really would like to know about how others plan their onboard activities... laid back, relaxing etc or full on trying to fit in as many onboard activities as possible, and together, or separately??

thanks!!!

You are welcome with the posting of the snipets :)

One thing great about a Disney Cruise. There are all kinds of activities. I have gone with family before. There are things to keep the kids busy, the teens busy and the adults. Or, if you want you can do things together.

There will be "Navigators" showing all the activities of the day. If you are a preplanner there are books out to show you what to expect. I think one is Birnbaums. and the other is Passporter - click on the connection http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...cL44a035D_UigNfCQ&sig2=ApI-yzhib33Us3srV9Cu6g

First off: Thanks for the attendance update!

Alecia: our first Disney cruise we planned on sticking together as a family almost the entire time. That quickly changed the first day when we stopped in at the Oceaneers Club open house. After that, our four year old barely wanted to do anything with us during the day. I would say more than 1/2 of her time between breakfast and dinner was spent in the kids clubs. Every morning we'd review the Navigator to offer her a choice of things to do, and the majority of the time she chose the clubs.
This afforded us quite a bit of adult only time which we gladly welcomed. We would pop down to the club several times a day to find out if she wanted to go for a swim or meet characters, or just hang out with us, but most of the time she was having too much fun there. As long as she was happy and having fun we were fine letting her enjoy herself there and make new friends. We only got paged once by the kids club staff, and that was because she wanted to go get an ice cream.
My wife is a big planner, but aside from the shows in the evening, and characteer greetings, I think we're just going to wing it this time around.

i think - and don't quote me on it - but i think pachyderm in this case resulted from elephants, and references dumbo specifically, ie dumbo would be our mascot on our logo/tshirts/etc. my baby cousin calls them trunk-e-phants instead of elephants. too cute.

i love the pachyderm of the caribbean title... a little swashbuckling dumbo sounds just cute enough for me.

i like the idea of a vote for a title - and one in the next month or so sounds about right.

i also like the idea of cutting off FE joining dates around the 6 weeks prior mark, and making smaller FE groups -- and on a practical note, it might help to cut down on expenses for those who might not have $$$ to spend on supplies/gifts etc.

just my thoughts. we haven't booked our cruise yet, as we're still working out logistics, however we are definitely coming on this one, so count us in for both dismeet activities and FE groups!! so excited

 I am loving the title!! I really like the FE group being one group... I have never felt it as a problem in past cruises so hopefully we can keep it as one. Also I always have a few spares since on two different past cruises we added make a wish kiddos at last moment to add them some extra pixiedust.... You didn't have to but it was optional.... I do agree on a cutoff date for FE in general.....

Not sure of a meet n greet because of new ship and I can keep my eyes open on other threads but I can be in charge of that part since I have held that before... It is just a quick fun way for all of us to meet each other before we set sail.... Also the Friday night before at Radisson we meet by pool to chat. :yay::cheer2:

Hello from Mebane NC ..... We def should get together before the cruise!!! Welcome Aboard!!! :thumbsup2

hey cobrastrike (loving the name!!) -- i think we will also be winging it -- i am the ocd planner in the house. he goes to sleep every time i want to review 'trip stuff' but it works for us. -- aside from the port adventures and theatre shows (we never get to go to the theatre, so dinner & a show will be our 'date night' celebrations) and various fireworks celebrations etc, i think we'll just take a few highlighters for the navigators and see how we fare.

i'm trying to decide whether we want to sit with others at dinner, or request a table to ourselves.. it's just the 2 of us, and we have a snarky sense of humour, so don't want to put off others :) we'll see what our TA recommends :)

On our last 7 night cruisethere was a vote and people wanted to split the FE group up (I'm thinking into staterooms of 15?) - people that wanted to exchange with all just signed up for more than one group (just another option). :confused3

Have I cruised with you before? :surfweb: Your name seems to be jumping out at me . . . We have done
