November 2015 car rental thread

I just got a new rate for 234 for those dates for a SUV from Costco.
Just rebooked today for a $215.26 Rate for the same car. That's a $97 savings from two weeks ago!

I am down to $250 for a mud-size SUV for the 13-22nd. Using $30 off code, and pass holder code (Alamo)

May I ask if this is with taxes. I have similar dates with Alamo and an AP and cannot come close to this price. We also like to rent from Dollar but their November rates are higher than most.

Yeah, that is the estimated total. I have funky hours, 11:00 pick up on the 13th and noon drop off on the 22nd.

just checked alamo for our trip Oct 31 - nov 12 and got a full size for 219 using the insider rate and $30 coup. Wish I could get the mid SUV, that price came up over $300.

Just got $176 for a Midsize for end of November using the Alamo codes. With out the codes I was getting $350 to $400. This is a good start so I'll keep checking.

I am down to $230, a $20 drop from yesterday. I am pretty thrilled with this. It works out to about $23 a day.

I'm starting to wonder if ours will decrease at all....we are traveling 11/19-11/27, the week of Thanksgiving. I'm worried that week will be too nuts to see any rate drops.

We will be there the week prior to Thanksgiving and our rates can't come close to what some folks have. We're at 270.00. And it really hasn't changed in weeks.

I know my rental seems stuck in 170-200 zone but I did get lucky one afternoon and got my SUV for 150 ish. I have weird times but on hour. I've found pick ups on half hour can raise rates triple.

Just rebooked again today (7/4) rate went down to 187.33 thru Costco (Toyota Rav4).

I booked last week with Costco for a minivan at $499. I just checked again today and the rate is the same. Our dates are 11/28-12/5. Anyone find anything better for a minivan? I also just hate booking a minivan. Our last three trips that we have book with Alamo through Costco and we have been upgraded for free to a minivan. We have 4 adults and one toddler in a baby seat, so we can't get a smaller car.

This has been rehashed over and over again on Disboards. The VROOM VROOM Limited code was a code, intended for international visitors only to the US when Vroom Vroom Vroom was still an Australian company. It includes full insurance. Check your confirmation, both CDW and SLP are selected and cannot be un-selected.

The reason why this is bad for American licensed holders is because you cannot take off the included insurance and it supersedes any other insurance you might have including personal/credit card. If you by any chance get in a accident, Alamo will investigate as they insured the car. They will find from your license you are a American citizen and thus the contract will be null and void due to fraudulent use of a code whether knowingly/unknowingly. You will then be responsible for any damage and/or liability to any injured parties out of pocket.

So ask yourself is the risk worth it over saving a few dollars. With the way people drive in the US and road rage abundant, I would say no. Here's a link to the last reported attempt to use it. They were caught and got lucky.

BTW there is a version of Vroom Vroom for Americans without the insurances included. You must book through the vroom vroom site.

Just actually read this through so apparently the rate I have is invalid and it's back to the drawing board. Thanks for posting this info!!!

We would need a third row with the baby seat. I checked and it was around $330 or so. Since my last post I found a coupon code in this thread and booked a minivan for $262 with Alamo!

I am down again today! Intermediate SUV $215 for 11/13-11/22 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Using $30 off and pass holder discount. Alamo must think I am crazy because I have like 12 canceled reservations at this point!

just rented a car through Costco.

Oct. 30th - Nov 12th
compact
$235 with taxes

you can actually rent a car for 12 days cheaper than for 7 days. Crazy, but true. :crazy2: :car:

edited to add:

I kept messing around with the times of pick up and drop off and by dropping it off at noon on the last day, it made a big difference.

This is making me rethink a Costco membership...

Other question- we actually rent a car in home state and drive down (because my family hates me). Last time, we lucked into a counter side upgrade for $2/day that included an in-vehicle DVD player. I'm willing to pay for that again. Any advice on how to request that in advance?

Not that I've paid much attn. but I know I've seen option for GPS, etc during check out so it might be in with that stuff.

Just lowered my rate at Dollar. $229.66 for mid-size SUV - 11/5 - 11/9 (Dollar Express and AAA). Was $259.64. Baby steps.

Just changed from mid size SUV to full size with Dollar express city special (without AAA) - total $141.96. Very happy with that.
