November 2014 - $2500?

I went onto the gas buddy website to estimate gas costs, and it figures about $500 for gas for the round trip.
!

You may be underestimating your gas as we just drove from Philadelphia area and roundtrip was $500.

I was going to say the same thing. We're on the coast of VA - straight down to Disney =825 miles. I know that I get 340miles to the tank in my van driving around home - highway is much better usually. That's 2.5 tanks one way, 5 round trip, plus the odd bit of driving around down there (we're offsite, but you'll also be driving to treatments, be sure to take that into account). It costs an average of $60-70 to fill up my van. If I round up to 6 tanks, that's $360-420 round trip and you're almost twice as far as I am.

hmmm i just went on http://www.fueleconomy.gov/trip/.............. and it estimate $350 round trip.......from NJ.............. maybe its the type of car i have a 2013 that gets 23mpg,,,,,,,,,, i plugged in $3.75 a gallon for gas

Have to agree with most posters; you sound too low in budget for the trip you want.
Gas esp sounds way off.
We spent ~$450 last time down there and we live in NW Ohio!
I also made a trip from home to PCB in Oct and even that was ~ $400!
I drive a minivan and get ~ 23 mpg.

Using that website from my house to WDW, with my 2005 Odyssey (website says 20mpg) it estimates $152 one way (810 miles according to that website) which makes the round trip cost $304 @ $3.75 per gallon, which is about the price I put in my post for the actual 5 tanks of gas. When I round it to 6 tanks since I will have to drive around while there, it becomes the $360.

That website shows one way. I didn't see an option for round trip.

I think 2,500$ off site, and doing breakfast in room, and bringing snacks with you, you can make it, and enjoy. You will lose the theme in room, but that is about it. You will have more space, and cheaper accommodations. You will not have a king option at a value, as it sounds like 3 in room. That is only a double bed option. Though I lovvvvvve dp and ddp, with your goals I would think they are it in line with budget. Also if swimming is the goal go from April- oct. not nov-march.

I think that budget might be tight! We are planning a trip for this November and I am stressing over the costs that I came up with. We own a timeshare at Orange Lake Resort and even staying off property I can't do it for the price you are budgeting. Here is what I have for our budget and I always go a bit high: villa dues $750, 5 day park hopper for 4 $1282, 1 day to Kennedy Space Center for 4 $190, 1 day Seaworld for 4 $332, food $300 (includes cooking at villa/parks), gas $350 (driving from PA-mid size suv), spending money for extras $800 totals like $4000. Yes it's higher cause we are adding Seaworld and Kennedy but even if we weren't going there, our cost would still be around $3500. I like to plan a min. of $4000 for us and yes it's high, but we don't go every year and when we do we like to do a little extra. Best of Luck to you and happy planning!

DONT PAY FOR KENNEDY SPACE CENTER! I just emailed my state congressman and was able to get 4 free tickets to KSC for free for June. They set aside a certain amount of tickets for each state! I saved $190!

That is good to know and thanks for that information!

If one meal a day is going to be made in-room, it would be more economical for it to be dinner wouldn't it?

Breakfast is usually cheaper. If you stay offsite, maybe early breakfast at Waffle House or somewhere so you could get a cheap but big breakfast.

If it was me and was planning to go back to the room/condo/house each day for a break and if I was going to be able to cook in the room; I would plan to eat breakfast out and maybe have something like a crock pot meal waiting for us to eat our big meal when we take our break.

Will your dh be willing to go without the ddp? I know mine won't. He likes the convience and I think he likes not having to have the sticker shock when he looks at the menus! :rotfl:

My Dh with the ddp might not be as much of an issue as I thought. He had to go see his surgeon yesterday and took his friend, who was driving, out to lunch at Red Lobster. He had a lunch- sized pasta dish and brought home what he couldn't finish! He says his appetite has decreased significantly in the last few months. I guess I just haven't really noticed with everything that's been going on.

However, ddp might not be in the cards anyway. I haven't wanted to go offsite, thinking that it would take away the magic for my daughter. However, last night she became absolutely enamoured with the pictures of Bonnet Creek and is now begging to go there! I asked if I should bother buying park tickets or if Ishould just leave her in the pool and the lazy river! :D

Has anybody had housekeeping service come into Bonnet Creek? How much is it? I guess I could deal with cooking a bit if I had somebody clean up a little a couple of times while we're there - I love not cleaning on vacation! Also, we would probably be eating offsite quite a lot more, so I am going to do a little research on restaurants in the area. Thanks for opening my eyes to other possibilities here!

Also I think we might go earlier in the year - maybe October? I would really like to go to Homeschool Days and take a YES class.
