November 2012 Trip planners #4~almost Disney time! Everyone welcome!

We are also 15 days away from our trip.

But........I still can't believe the day I had today.

DH was in a motorcycle crash. Luckily he didn't hit anyone else but his motorcycle flipped a few times and then DH was thrown off about 100 feet. Honestly, it could have been a lot worse. No head or face injuries, but he has a broken ankle, the other ankle is sprained, his thumb was dislocated and some bruises and srapes on his arms. Thankfully, he had all his protective gear on. After deciding to discharge him, they ended up keeping him overnight because he was in so much pain.
The worst part is that he will be in a cast for 6 weeks so probably little to no work and I'm not sure what he'll do in Disney. It's either he doesn't go or we rent an ECV.

I don't even want to consider cancelling the trip as an option. The kids have been really getting excited for it. If we do rent an ECV, does anyone have any tips/advice?

Thank You

I'm so sorry to hear about your DH, I hope he is alright. Hopefully he will heal quickly. *hugs*

Hi all, we've also had some crazy health stuff here - I had a big vein lasered on 10/5 due to issues it was giving me from pain, cramping, and I'll be honest I was not liking the look of vericose veins! Well, lucky me, that turned into a blood clot last week! :scared: It's been a week of self-injected blood thinners (ouch!) and daily ultrasounds to ensure I was not at death's door. Happy to say I am clot free as of yesterday! Sure makes me appreciate my upcoming trip with family more than I was, what a wakeup call!!!

Has anyone pushed a wheelchair in Disney? My mom is having hip surgery after Disney so we are taking wc to get around as she is in pain if walking. Can you go thru the lines with it so she can sit? And what is correct thing to do when riding busses? she can walk on but we need to take chair. get in HC line or regular?

You might want to call your resort/hotel and see about getting a handicap accessible room.
I'm going to give them a call as soon as I'm sure he's actually going to make the trip. It looks like he is in worse shape than we thought. As long as there's no serious pain, he will be ok in the ECV.

LOL! Did I say 'normal' hmmmm that must have been my alter ego. :rotfl:

Oh no...not sure how I missed this this morning but glad your husband is overall OK. I don't have much info on ECVs but did want to send you hugs cause I'm sure it's a hard position to be in. Wishing your husband a speedy recovery.
Thank You

OMG. I'm glad you are ok now. That sure is scary.

We are 33 days away from our trip. I feel like I haven't been doing anything for the trip. I don't really think there is anything left to do but pack.
Since we won't be back until Dec. 1st I have already started my Christmas shopping and made a few Christmas presents. I figure the way the mail works as soon as I get back from my trip I am gonna have to package everything up and mail it out.

- I still have to get my stroller license plates printed out and a make the container to hold our pressed penny change in.

- Should I have a plan for each day at the parks? Since ds will turn 2 on our trip I just have a list of things we want to try to see and do but havent really made a mapped out plan for each day. I figured we have to do what we can. I don't want to stress ds out by making it super planned.

Should I have some sort of plan? Like those ones people get from tour guide Mike?

With a 2 year old, I wouldn't have a plan mapped out for each day. Do the things you think he would love first and go by what he wants to do, which may be to ride Dumbo 5 times in a row! Go at his pace and don't worry about what you are not seeing. I think you're right in using a list of must do attractions. If he needs a nap or a break, follow his lead. You'll be fine.:thumbsup2

Random: I used to have a washer that had a "Ultra clean" cycle. For those days you didn't want your clothes just "sorta" clean I guess.

34 days for us!

That's some scary stuff! :scared1: So glad you've recovered. Puts things in perspective for sure.::yes::

Good luck with that. I'm having vascular AFTER my trip. A test yesterday showed that my circulation is good enough to wait until January. I'm glad that your clot didn't become a threat to your life; it's something to really take seriously. Have a wonderful and healthy trip.

Some lines you can, but some people rent them just so they don't need to wait in line. Your Mom certainly has a true need, but I'll warn you right now, it's hard on the 'pusher', a very tiring, muscle challenging job. Some of the ramps (like to the Monorail) are murder! That said, if you don't have someone with the stamina needed for this and you can afford it, your Mom may be better off with a scooter. It isn't cheap and you have to know how to drive them, but it is a lot easier on those who would have to push the person with the medical problem (especially if the weather is going to be hot)

To the woman whose husband had the motorcycle accident: Sorry, but I've missed a lot of this thread and I don't know where your original post is. I'm glad that your DH isn't hurt worse than he is; my cousins (DH & DW) were just in a cycle accident and she was badly injured. It's very scary. I use a power chair in WDW due to a muscle disease. Your DH isn't disabled in general, but he certainly will need a power chair/scooter for your WDW trip. Having to use one occasionally at home (I'm still a short distance walker) I have experience with them and I wanted to tell you and him, that if you get a chair from an outside place (He'll need one because the ECV's in the parks won't be enough for him. The distances from the hotels to the parks and ECV rental spots and back are longer than you think.) With an outside rental he'll have the scooter with him all the time which he will need. These outside rentals have REAL scooters with NORMAL speed ranges on them. They can go fast; Disney park chairs are set for a limited speed to keep people who use them strictly for 'convenience' and to get into rides without waiting  from hurting other guests. People who do this and aren't disabled have no experience with motorized chairs like the true disabled do and they are dangerous with them. Your husband should get up early and get a little practice in each day. The hardest part for him will be to get it on a bus and parallel park it in the bus slot, but he'll manage if he takes his time. He shouldn't miss this trip. There will always be people with true medical need due to accidents and surgeries. I hope your husband isn't in pain any longer and that you all have a great trip together. :thumbsup2

Not to brag or anything, but we are at 15 days (as of midnight...)! :cool1::cool1:

Thank you for the advice. I'll definitely be renting a scooter from an outside company as he will need it at the resort as well. Like you said, he'll need to practice using it. Luckily we're going the first week of Nov so it's not as crowded as during the holiday but still we will have to make slight adjustments timewise so we don't get stuck in a big crowd.

Thanks! Like PP who's husband got in the motorcycle crash, it keeps reminding me that we should live and love every day! :grouphug:
Yes, very true.

My ticker says 2 weeks today!!!!! And now I have a whole new list of things to do.

Have a nice day everyone!

I was wondereing about ECV as well. My Mom will be renting one for the first time. She has a nerve condition that makes walking for any real length of time cause pain to shoot all over her body. So she's giving this a try - other wise she wouldn't be able to go on the trip. She's concerned because she looks perfectly healthy, she walks fine and doesn't want to look like she is just trying to get to the head of the line. That said if she were to wait in line for an extended period on her feet she'd be in real discomfort before she got on. I hope she can drive the thing!!!

Good morning everyone!!

Hope everyone is recovering from injuries, surgeries, etc. And please, now that we're getting down to the wire, stay healthy!! I just had a mild cold while in Virginia and took Cold-Eze which, I think, made it much milder than it would have been. I know a lot of people use Airborne to ward off the cooties associated with travel. :thumbsup2

I just learned how to post pictures, so I thought I'd share a couple of the Jewel costume I made for my 5 year old DGD while I was in Virginia.

It started out by me adding a little sparkle to a hooded sweatshirt.

It took me a lot longer than I thought it would. I ended up cutting out each individual feather and hand sewing everyone of them on. In fact, the sparkle in the beginning was all hand sewn as well. But she is very happy with it and now tries to fly on a regular basis!:rotfl:

So darn cute!!!

Posting from the physical therapist office where they are working on my ankle. Hopefully this doesn't cause too much discomfort with the trip.

Excited to be under 30 days until we leave. The kids are never going to believe us again for anything! I'm working on copying DVDs to my iPads for the drive. My wife and DD2 are gone until Tuesday so it's just me and DD1 getting some good Daddy/daughter time.

Hi everyone! We are going to be staying at the Polynesian from Nov 9-13th. We are celebrating my twin boys' 4th birthday. Im so excited!!

I never gave much thought to MVMCP until now when I found this thread. DO you think with 4 year olds the cost is worth it? I guess I have to research the party now.
