November 2011 Check In

OMG Smiley face, I just read this entire thread, I wanted to say how so very sorry I am to hear about your son and hope that you are on the road to finding peace.

DH is a 7 year cancer survivor, so I definitely can comiserate with the emotions you're going through. It's an ongoing battle. People will never stop asking.

You're on the upswing now, you're almost there! Hang in there!

 for you and your hubby!! hurray for him that is so awesome! My hubby has had too much to deal with between losing our son, and potentially losing me. He is in councilling and it is helping. He has been there with me every step of the way, will not let me go to any appointments or treatments without him :lovestruc
I have to go back in and change our dates now..... we have changed to later in November. Dear daughter in law is still not sure she can make the trip, she thinks it may be too hard as they had their honeymoon in Disneyland staying @ Hojo's then just 2 years ago they went with all the girls, well except for the baby who is only a year and half. I'm so thankful they made that trip especially for the older girls. They stayed at Hojo's for about 10 days, but then decided to go to the Disneyland Hotel for a treat before going home. For some reason they got a free upgrade to a suite so the girls had their own room, all mickey themed. They have amazing pictures from that trip. Our son also got to celebrate his birthday there, had dinner at the Blue Bayou, got a very cool birthday present, he wore his birthday pin all day, and in the Blue bayou, he wore the girls pirate hat they give kids and we have such a good picture of him. He was such a Disney nut like me, he always lived life so fully, and did so many things, and had so many good experiences even in such a short life. For that we are very grateful. Anyway, I've changed the dates to Nov. 28 - Dec. 7 a little shorter time, because if she can't go, we will take the 2 older girls and still go with our other daughters and other grandchild. So if hubby and I are going to be full time parents again, I think 9 nights will be more than enough! Also, it will be quieter then, apparently that week after thanksgiving is one of the quietest weeks there, but everything Christmas will be in full swing. Our anniversary is on Dec. 6 so we will try to do the Blue Bayou for that. Now I have to go to the August thread and put myself in there because we are booked at the Best Western Park Place Inn!! Hojo's was full! We've never stayed there before, but I am pretty weak, and the much shorter walk to the park will be very nice!

ddwlms - You are very welcome!

.....

Don't hesitate to walk across the street to the PPH too - even though the PPH is not as inviting and comfy as the GCH lobby is, the PPH tree is gorgeous. It's a towering tree with glowing blue-green lights that really catch your attention. The DLH trees are not that exciting, but the DLH has other fun decorations around the property, such as the Goofy's Kitchen tree!

Thanx again for the info. Goofy's kitchen recently became one or our favorite places so we'll definitely get to see that one. And now, we'll have to make it a point to stroll over to PPH. --maybe we'll see you there! :)

Just picked our dates over the weekend.
We'll be at the Fairfield Inn, Nov 23 - 27th.
We stayed at the Red Lion last Thanksgiving, and don't want to be that far away ever again!

Love  Disneyland at Christmas!

I was looking at the park hours from last year, and it seems its a very OFF WEEK the week after Thanksgiving when we will be there. DL Park opens at 9am, closes at 8pm. DCA opens at 10am, closes at 8pm.

So does this mean there won't be any WOC shows Mon-Thurs that week??? :sad1:

Also, I noticed they didn't offer EE on Tues of that week either. BUMMER. Now I'm not sure where to order my tickets. I was planning on LMT.com b/c they have the cheapest price including an EE. But maybe I should get the Costco deal from my cousin who lives in Cali instead. They don't come with EE, but if they aren't going to offer it that week anyway, might as well since they are cheaper...??? :confused3

Was anyone there at that time last year and can comment??

I saw you had some good answers to this in the seperate thread you did, so I will just say, it is our favorite time to go. Crowds are super thin, we have pics all over the park, but even in usually crowded Fantasyland, where we are the only people to be seen! Everything is up and running for the Christmas season, fireworks, parades, etc. yes park hours are short, but with so few people you can see and do all you want in the shorter time, and having park opening at 9 am means you can both sleep in, have an unrushed morning and be there for rope drop! Can't comment on the ticket thing though... :)

just checking ....we are thinking of going in Nov - week of Turkey day actually. We have been at this time about 6-7 yrs ago....just thinking at this point...

looking for any info on deals or anything...prices are insane:)

Yes...more people added to the November list.
I don't want to rush time...but July is almost over and we are getting closer to November :cool1:

We haven't booked yet, but we are 90% sure that we are going from Nov 28 to Dec 4.

We'll be staying on site and celebrating my daughters 3rd birthday and my mothers birthday.

Thanksgiving Day, staying over night before or after, then back to San Diego.

Looking forward to info on Thanksgiving dining popcorn::
and of course seeing the Christmas decorations! :santa:

for those going over Thanksgiving...where are you eating that day? does anyone usually serve turkey dinner? I was thinking of the restaurant at GCH.....

Hi DisneyKim...
We are not traditional Thanksgiving ...We are thinking Steakhouse 55 (our DDIL loves the Seven onion soup) or Napa Rose for our Thanksgiving feast.

Unfortunately we won't be there for Thanksgiving Day this year... going earlier in November... but from the info I gathered last year you could find traditional turkey offerings inside the park at Blue Bayou, Carnation Cafe, and Plaza Inn. We had our meal at Plaza Inn. It was plentiful but not quite the best turkey day meal I have ever had. Maybe I am picky. :confused3 I have a real problem with packaged gravy mix. The rest of my bunch liked it just fine.

Outside of the park, at the Disney hotels they served meals at the PCH Grill, Storytellers Cafe, and Goofy's Kitchen plus had the big Thanksgiving Feast in the Grand Ballroom of the Disneyland Hotel.

Also, I made some notes that Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen and Mimi's were also serving up something special for the day. I think Mimi's would be my first choice next time. I hear it's pretty darn good. Hoping I get to try it out next year!

Going to celebrate my 40th b-day with my sons! Staying at the hojo Nov 29-Dec 1. I cried for 6 months before turning 30 , I cant wait for 40 , how can you be sad at the Happiest Place on Earth! Plus the bounus of it being Christmas time too!!

Hi gang!! I promise I'll update the list as soon as I get home.....from Disneyland! :cool1::banana: I had my last chemotherapy treatment this past Wednesday, had my CT scan on friday, and have 2 weeks till I start radiation, so hubby and I left home this morning very early. We are making our way south over the next 7 days, driving the coast and staying in some places we've always wanted to like Carmel, Bodega Bay, and San Francisco among others. It's going good so far, hubby is doing much better than I thought he would. FYI: our son was killed while at work alongside my husband who saw the whole thing, and tried to save him. he's been in councilling since and because he has the same dangerous job (logging) has post traumatic stress and is afraid of everything now. anyway, he did very well today, until we got to a big hunting fishing outdoor store called Cabela's where he and son used to wish they were millionaires. That was extremely hard for both of us, and I know we won't be going back for a very long time. We are travelling slowly, and taking lot's of breaks, unlike our usual 2 day long hauls straight through on the I5.
I am so excited about getting to Disneyland, but afraid too. We have so many wonderful family memories there....I know I'm going to cry a lot, but I hope to be able to bring some happiness back to my hubby again. We've had a few trips there in the last few years since the kids have grown, and we always choose to go there over anywhere else.
We will still be going in November but it's looking more and more like our daughter in law won't be going, but we will be hopefully taking our 2 oldest grand daughters 7 and 5, who since losing their daddy in January, have been very traumatised.
Our dear 7 year old grand daughter said, not long after the accident, that she wanted to go to Disneyland, because that's where wishes come true and she was going to wish her daddy would come back to life. That traumatised us all.
Anyway our second oldest child willl be coming with us then, with her hubby, and their son who will be 2. My hubby has become very doting and protective of our little grandson now, I think he wants to really protect him. Hopefully also our youngest daughter and her newly beloved.
Sorry gang for going on and on, hubby is napping and I'm enjoying the free goodies and the holiday inn express we are at!
I also don't know anything about the thanksgiving dinners at the resort, but I would imagine there must be a few! I just know that even in July or August, I will order the turkey dinner at Mimi's because it is honestly just as good as mine, and better than most!! lol.....

We'll be there October 30th until November 11th and we're staying at Desert Inn & Suites. :goodvibes

My heart goes out to you every time I see you post, smiley_face.

Have a wonderful trip.

Smiley_Face and her prince...
Wishing you and the prince a wonderful trip...glad you are going
back to Disneyland...
Hope on your drive down the coast that you will get
a chance to see my favorite places Cambria and Solvang
"The Danish Capital of America"...just so cute and fun.

The family trip in November will make
for some great new memories....Disney through a childs eyes...pixiedust:

It's official! We will be at DLR on November 12 and 13, staying at the Grand Californian. Kind of bummed that the holiday season doesn't start until the 14th. Fingers crossed that IASW will be open early as we have never ridden this attraction with the holiday overlay.

I was wondering when someone was going to make a November thread. I see it was started a while ago but it must have slipped down the page.

I am excited to add our dates!!!

We are going 11-10 through 11-14. Yes Vets day weekend but my kids have the 10th and 11th off school so had to do it. We went that weekend once before a few years back and they actually CLOSED DL so am hoping it isn't that bad again but since it is on a weekend I'm skeered! But excited to go just the same and only wish that they would have more xmas stuff up by then but am looking forward just the same.

Oh and we are staying at Fairfield Inn. :)

first time at disneyland! Going November 12-18th! for part 1 of our honeymoon!!!! :lovestruc
