We were originally planning on coming to WDW in Feb 2009 during value season to take advantage of the cheaper hotel rates and hopefully a AAA discount as well.
That all changed when I went to Southwest Airlines website on Tuesday afternoon. Southwest is starting service out of Milwaukee, WI in November of this year. In honor of their arrival in the Milwaukee market they announced one-way fares of $35 ($70 RT). Including taxes and fees this would have amounted to $360 for the four of us.
We wrestled with this all night long about bumping up the trip from Feb to Nov to take advantage of these rates. During my lunch break at work on Wednesday I decided to call WDW and find out if AAA rates were available for POR for early Nov. It turns out they were. I went ahead and made a room only reservation for six nights. I figured when I got home later that day Id book the airfare on SW.
Oops, big mistake!!! By the time I got home all of the $70 RT rates on SW for the dates we were interested in were gone.
I thought of cancelling the room reservation as well but decided I might as well hold on to it for awhile and keep an eye on airfares.
Well, Wednesday night I checked Air Trans website. There on Air Trans website was the same $70 RT airfare SW was advertising. It turns out the emergence of SW in Milwaukee, along with the struggling Midwest Airlines has sparked quite the fare war in Milwaukee.
I couldnt pass up this deal twice so around 1030 PM I booked four tickets from Milwaukee to Orlando for a total of $405 - taxes and fees add up quickly but $100 RT per person is still a darn good deal!!!!!!
If you live in the Milwaukee area keep an eye out for more great airfares like this.
