Hi! We're going to DL in November, 11/9 thru 11/13 (est.) - will there be anything special going on in the parks? I checked Disneyland's website, but it says to check back later for the dates regarding the Fall activities. Also, any recommendations about how long to visit the two parks? It is just us and our 4 year old. Thanks so much!

Those dates put you right inbetween the Halloweentime decorations/entertainment an the Christmas period in the parks. The park will be in a state of change with holiday decorations being added each day you are there. However, there won't be any of the holiday entertainment going yet. Tuesday, November 11, is Veteran's Day and historically, the parks are a bit crowded on that day. Last year during that week, mid-week, they did not have any parade available since they were in the process of changing from the Parade of Dreams to the Christmas Fantasy Parade. However, they did have mid-week showings of Fantasmic to make up for it. Although I have read that this year, Fantasmic will not be showing this fall as it will be under refurbishment.

Here is the entertainment calendar from November 2007, which may give you an idea of what to expect for this year. However, until DLR releases their updated calendar for this year, nothing is set in stone (and even then, it isn't really set in stone) ;)

HTH.

It is a great time to go, quite honestly it is the only time of year we go. The last few trips it has been so hot(high 90's) during that time. Nov 11 is usually when the final touches for the Holiday Season are ready to go and it is awesome. I do believe Santa arrives that day as well! (I am talking the real SANTA!).

Beware that Veteran's Day can get so crowded that they close the park. We decided to go in early afternoon on Veteran's Day in 2006 and they had closed it to new entries for the rest of the day. We were very frustrated to waste a day. So on that day, go early!

Do a lot of people have Veteran's day off? That isn't a holiday I normally have off, so I'm surprised that it gets so crowded. Is it a state holiday in CA?

That’s the same time we are planning for. I was originally looking at only being there during the week, but I actually shifted it a bit so now we are from the 8th to the 12th. I really wanted to be able to see the parade and fireworks. (Plus airfare was much better) Veteran’s Day could be crowded since schools have the day off, but I’m hoping that since it’s not a part of a 3-day weekend that it won’t be as bad as 2006. I’m kind of hoping for drizzly weather that day.

My son is in public school in Northern California and Veteran's Day is a holiday for his school district. My husband works for the State of California, and it is a holiday for them as well.

Veterans Day is a holiday for most of the schools in So Cal. and many people will be off work or take the day off to take their kids.. Also from recent years there are kids off school in AZ and NV and Utah that have that time off and they come to DL.

My DS6 was born that day and in recent years we just go to Hawaii at that time as everyone else goes to DL.
