Any suggestions for St. Maartin? We will now have kids ranging from 5-12 onthe trip. (another family member signed up tonigth and still waiting to hear on one more family member to sign up).

It included a free breakfast that my hubby enjoyed. Our grown children are "planning" on cruising with us next year with the grandchildren so we don't know where we will stay. But we will book early because I'm a chronic pre-planner like that. 
Oh! I wrote a nice trip report about that trip, including the Sunrise Safari, but it's on that *ahem* other board as well.

Real quick to answer some questions...
Parking AT the port, which is the most convenient is about $120 per car for a 7-day cruise. If you are looking to cut some costs, http://parkcruise.com/ offers parking for $6/day with a free shuttle and is very popular with DISers
The three popular pre-cruise hotels are The Country Inn & Suites, The Residence Inn and The Radisson.
I have stayed in all three and by far, my favourite is the Residence Inn. Great pool, great rooms (small suite for about the same cost as a normal room at the Radisson, depending on season and when you book it), and free hot breakfast!
Mind you, the most popular is the Radisson and I know Mike & Robin love the sleep number beds they offer. (Not all rooms have the sleep number beds, I believe though so make sure to double check that when you make your ressie!) They do have a great pool but I thought the resort was just okay and you can get a room that is REALLY far from the pool and lobby so make sure to request something close to the pool or front of hotel if that is important to you!
All of these hotels offer a park & cruise rate, which basically offers free parking included in your room rate. The Radisson used to offer a free shuttle but I think they charge for it now. The other option is Art's Shuttle, which has gotten good reviews on the DIS.

Linda, we've stayed at the Port 3x's and the Hyatt Airport on our first cruise. We love the Hyatt and you're right....it was so convenient.
We stayed at the Marriott, The Residence Inn and The Raddisson at the Port. My favorite was the Residence Inn.
I love staying at the port somewhere and watching our ship come in (VERY EARLY) from close to Jetty Park on the morning of our cruise. Mike and Robin did that one year and we've done it with them ever since. Great memories there!
We rent a car when we get to Orlando so I don't know anything about parking at the hotel at the port and taking a shuttle. We just drop off our rental car at Avis, hop on their shuttle and go straight to the ship. I remember once we had to drop off a couple at the Carnival terminal first and I wanted to kick them in the bum because they were taking too long.
We've eaten dinner at Grills on the Friday before the cruise and it was really nice. Last year we went there for breakfast on the Saturday before the cruise. I think we did Wendy's for dinner the night before. Blech.
Maybe Cass (Timon) will be along soon and I believe she would know all about parking situations at the terminal or a hotel at the port.
