November 18, 2012 ~ Turkey day on the Wonder

Can you list the sex on the adults for the FE? Some of my home state gifts are gender specific. Thanks!

Hi Everyone! Looks like things are falling into place for us to join you on this cruise. Just like Linda (adnil530), who we cruised with a few months ago, this will be our 7th Disney cruise. It will be our 5th time to the Mexican Riviera, so I will be happy to help answer any questions anyone may have. I will also set up a couple of "meetups" so we can get the party started.
party: :grouphug: :drinking1

There will be 5 of us in 2 cabins; me and DW, our twin DD9s, and Grandma! We are in GTY status for cabins right now, but will all be participating in the FE group. Does anyone else have any DDs around the same age? My girls will be excited to meet some new friends and maybe do a little emailing before the trip.

If anyone else is lurking this thread out there, please jump in and join our DISgroup. It's a great source of info and lots of fun too!

Many thanks to Linda for getting the thread and FE list started! You're awesome! :worship:

Anyway, more to follow, but just wanted to jump onboard. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hey stranger! Are you following us???:rotfl: Glad you guys are going again. This one will be just as fun. Can't wait to go back to Cabo. We really enjoyed ourselves there. Did you sign up for the Panama also? I haven't checked that roll call lately.

Welcome aboard! Our daughter is 16 also. Glad to see another dd16. We did a girls trip to DL a few weeks ago. I would love to do a girls trip on a cruise....heck I'd like to do an alone trip if it were on a cruise!

I'm not sure where I sign in for FE but we'd like to join:hippie:

Welcome Pixielizzie! I'll add you to the FE and I'll update the roll call when I have a chance.

There are some repeaters up here so if anyone has any questions about the Wonder or the Mexican Riviera, ask away!

I'll still pretty tied up in our business start up. Getting close, but not quite yet so my time is pretty limited. Gotta get up and running soon though.

Has anyone heard anything about when they are going to announce the 2013 itineraries for the Wonder and Magic? Any hope for anything over here? It would be nice it they did the 3/4 nighters to Catalina Island and Ensenada. We did one on a Carnival a few years back and it was a nice trip. Highly unlikely, I know.

Linda

I read this post and promptly forgot to do this. I'm sorry. :flower3: It's done now though! :) If everyone could check to make sure I've deciphered the posts correctly and listed the adults as their proper gender, I'd appreciate it.

Happy week!

Just a quick note! I have no husband, as listed in the role call. :rotfl:
My dear partner is a woman.
We have no room assignment yet but will update for FE! Thanks!:cheer2:

Sorry bout that pixielizie!:flower3: Corrected now. I get in a bit of a hurry at times and make errors. Thankfully, I have others to keep me on my toes.

You are a dear for taking the time to organize all this!
Can't wait for my first FE!:cloud9:

Hi, we (DH, DS-21, DD-16, & DS-15) have just switched to this cruise from a Thanksgiving Dream cruise. DH was promoted & we are moving to the SF Bay area in the next few weeks & it made more fiscal sense to go on a longer cruise from CA than fly all of us to FL. Of course more days and a cruise we haven't already done is a big plus too! Really looking forward to enjoying the holiday on the Wonder. We will be reuniting with our son in college for this trip after moving away from him so it is an even bigger deal for us now. Anyway, wanted to introduce myself and say we are looking forward to cruising with all of you. Patti

Thanks for clarifying and most of all thanks for organizing!

Hello,
My family of 3 will be joining everyone on the Thanksgiving cruise aboard the Disney Wonder. DAD, MOM, and our DS (6)(who is spoiled but oh well)

We did this exact same cruise last year and had a blast. No dishes, No Family drama, and sitting on the beach in Cabo on Thanksgiving. I am IN!!!!!!

I must admit I was disappointed in the Thanksgiving Feast last year. Hopefully it is better this year.

Anyways looking forward to the cruise.

Ooooo...our FE list is filling out nicely:cool1: I have a couple of questions for you MR Cruise vets. What is the best beach in PV and in Cabo? I'd like to just hang out and watch the boys build sandcastles. How does the towel situation work out on port days? Are towels provided or taken off the ship?
TIA

Welcome Aboard! Take advantage of the Wonder while she is here! We spent 4th of July in San Francisco. Stayed right on the wharf. Years ago, we were stationed in Alameda and lived on Treasure Island. Love the Bay Area. I hope you guys love it too! My dd16 will be glad to see another dd16 onboard.::yes::

Welcome aboard to you too! Nice to have someone who has done this particular cruise before. I was wondering how they serve the Thanksgiving Feast. Do they do a special menu? What were your observations, disappointments and suggestions for improvement? Thanks for any input.

I love the FE stuff....I haven't started but have many ideas! In PV, there are nice beaches right when you get off the ship.

On our last trip, we went across the street to Walmart to buy forgotten items, caught a cab from there for around $10 and went downtown. Google search: The Puerto Vallarta Malecon Boardwalk and Downtown area. We didn't get the opportunity to fully walk the boardwalk, but the art and statues on display are wonderful. We took a cab ride back to Krystal's where we had a day pass to use the resort and do jet skis. We will be going back to the Boardwalk on this trip to do the full walk, have lunch downtown and then return to the beach. You can use any of the beach areas that are south of the ship at no charge. Because this is Thanksgiving week, if I wanted to use one of the resorts (pool, food, restrooms), I would probably try to get a day pass in advance although many people say you can use the resorts at no charge if you buy your food and drinks there, we were there Spring Break and our friends were not able to get into Krystals after walking up. We came up in a cab and had no problems. We had a pass but was never asked to show it:confused3

If you click on the FE list link above my signature below, I have some maps of PV and Cabo there that might give you a better idea of what resorts are around the port.

In Cabo, we had a change of plans before we arrived. We ended up hiring a company at the pier who assisted us both days. Day 1: City tour along with a stop at the glass factory and the Hotel Finisterra where we enjoyed views of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. We then took a glass bottom boat ride out to the Arch, Scooby Doo rock, etc. The driver stopped and those who wanted to get off the boat and swim were allowed to do this off of Newlywed Beach, lol. That took up pretty much most of the first day in Cabo. The second day, the same company took us out on a whale watching trip. What a wonderful experience! Right after we got out in the Pacific Ocean, we got caught up in a very large, 1000 or so, dolphin pod. At one point, I saw a marlin fly and eventually, yes we saw a whale. I love reliving those moments.

I hope someone can answer your question about the beaches there.

You can click on either photo to see a larger version.

Some of these dolphins were so close to the front of the bow that our daughter felt that she could reach out and touch them.

An awesome trip!

Yes they had a special menu on Thanksgiving. In fact you got to take the menu with you as a gift. I still have the menu.
My wife and I really enjoyed the trip but were looking forward to a traditional Thanksgiving feast.
1) the stuffing was nothing like I've had before, and hope to never have again. I never realized how much I loved stove top stuffing till I didnt get any
2) There were no traditional mashed potatoes.
3) There was no traditional pumkin pie or apple pie

I guess I was hoping for taditional and I got fancy Thanksgiving. Dont get me wrong the food was good I just left disappointed. Maybe next time they can bring my mom on the ship and she can cook for everyone.

Yep. Nothing compares to the thanksgiving dinners that mom prepares. I miss those feasts.

Did the same cruise over Leap Year and had a great time.:cool1: Decided to catch one of the last Disney sailings out of Long Beach as the kids have the whole week off school. So convenient as we live in Orange County, CA. Where is the sign up for the FE group?? I can't seem to find the link. Also, is someone posting times for meet and greets. Will be travelling with dd age 10 and ds age 12.

Did anyone notice that Thanksgiving is on day 5 of the cruise which is also usually pirates/fireworks night. Any word if pirate night will be moved up or down a day?:confused3
