November 10, 2007 - MAGIC - Eastern

i bought my son a really cute pirate costume at Children's Place tonight. it was 30% off so i went for it. He's promising he will wear it. Hope it cools down at night though on the boat, or it will be a bit warm for him i think.

daughter is wearing a skull tshirt and red tutu. tee hee. glam pirate.

Not only do we not dress up, but none of us are big fans of the pirate party -- I know that is highly un-Disney! Does anyone else want to confess that they skip it? Let's see . . . last time the kids watched a movie (on tv) and DH and I had a glass of wine on our verandah, and then we went up on deck just in time for the fireworks -- it was a great evening!

I watch the pirate party, even though the ending is always the same.

Boy, it's been busy here!

Yes, I'm confessing that the whole family is not a big of pirate night. We also enjoy the fireworks, and get some gold chocolate coins from the buffet, and those are the highlights for us. Last year, we went to Palo for pirate night, and the kids went to the dining room. They enjoyed being covered head to toe in pirate bandanas, but that was the extent of it.

We will not be dressing up. (DS's halloween costume this year is a black shirt with orange writing that says, "This IS my costume.")

Good Morning everyone! Bumping us up to the top. Off to lose a few extra ounces so I can eat like royalty and come back the same as I left. ;)

I have to confess.............we have no intention of going to the party, we bokked Palo on that night to have something else to do.....

When we went last time to the Pirate Party, it was when they first started doing them. The show was great, fireworks were neat but after that DS wanted to go to bed. From what I've been reading, they turned it into more of a dance party now. I'm not sure how I feel about that now. I really liked that they did everything right away and we were able to see the "good" parts and still get back to our stateroom without feeling like we were missing anything.

I'm just hoping my kids make it up that late for the party LOL Otherwise they will be wearing their costumes to bed so I get my moneys worth ;)

Wow! I guess that shows that I am a first time DCL cruiser cause I believe (HOPE) the Pirate Party is going to be a lot of fun. I won't feel too bad about the costumes if it turns out to be a bust because we are all wearing them for Halloween too!

I'm with you Cheryl! I am really looking forward to the party - Fireworks at sea? What more could you want! I am planning on forcing my son to nap that day (he and I are not getting off the ship in St. Maarten) so that he can stay up for it! He loves pirates and went as one for Halloween last year so we already had the costume and I know he will have a blast.

hey guys, is anyone else getting up early to do the Trunk bay beach and snorkel excursion?? :)

Hi all. I haven't been on in a while, but I wanted to let you know what I learned from DCL today in case it hasn't already been posted on this thread. We apparently will be tendering on our day in St. Thomas....

I believe (not having cruised yet either) that it means that the Magic will anchor in the harbor near Charlotte Amalie, and not tie up at the dock (Havensight). So they will bring us to shore in boats.....experienced cruisers - is that right? :confused3 Not an optimal situation, but what can you do? :sad2:

ok, so what does it mean for us.......it not the best situation possible is that it???? (sorry I'm so hard to understand:sad2: )

YES the Pirate Party is a lot of fun! It starts out with lots of dancing and then the show starts ending with lots of Fireworks and the food buffets on deck. Just be aware it may seem to drap out because sometimes they have to either wait for the wind to die down or move the ship into a different position to be able to shoot off the fireworks. I do advise if you have small ones, our DD was almost 5 yrs old, to nap them during the day just before dinner. We had early dinner. It helped our situation a lot the second time. The first time we were in the middle of the atlantic in May and were waited for ever, getting later by the moment and then they did a scaled down version due to the windy conditions. But then on the Med cruise it was a full show and awesome!
I will look for the you tube link someone did from the crossing and med for you all to look at a head of time. DCL gives each person at dinner a pirate bandana to wear at the party at dinner and up on deck just in case you are not in anything piratey.

OK tendering means that DCL will be using the life boats on board to move people from the ship to shore that day. If you are on a DCL shore excursion you will have your meeting time on your tickets and location and then they will get you to your tender. If you are not a DCL shore excursion and want to get off as soon as the ship clears you probably won't be able to. priority is given to the shore excursion time people. they will have a location that morning to be able to obtain a tender time if you are willing to wait around until they have room. if you are doing a shore excurison not thru DCL please contact them and let them know you might not be off right away. this has happened to us before in acapulco. we had booked a shore excursion with a private company and informed them of that we will probably be tendering that day. of course they said that happens sometimes and they said they would wait for a period of time but totally understood.
OK i know its long winded but does it help or hurt.
