November 10, 2007 - MAGIC - Eastern

In response to Lynnie's post (which I wasn't sure how to paste here), we are flying in the day before, but we are flying out of Newburgh NY instead of Bradley. I got a great deal on JetBlue tickets from Newburgh to Orlando and it is a pretty easy ride for us from CT. We'll be staying at the Radisson by the Port the night before.

Also, I'm with Stimpy in the non-crafty category - I definitely need to know where to buy an fish extender. Especially since I am not quite clear on what one is, even after reading the posts about it!

Anyone planning to hang a fish extender? I am shopping around for some goodies to share and hoping some of you will have one on your door. :mickeybar

Wow the board has been hopping over the Labor day weekend! I've been going wild over here, cleaning out garages and closets! (trying to get organized for the new school year!)

Dis tag and being a Disfairy sounds like SOO much fun! I too am interested!!

What kind of little gifts did people bring for little goodies in the fish extenders??? :confused3 I understand if some don't want to participate, but I think it would be fun! And do we get something for just 1 per family (or stateroom) or for each adult & child? Just checking so i don't leave anyone out!

What I have done in the past with other groups is we bring a little something to represent where you are from... ie: postcard , pen , pencil , or what ever you want - we put our home address's on the postcards and we mail cards at Christmas. I still keep in touch with folks I met from England and Japan. I never bought a fish extender I took whatever I bought and put in some mesh material and tied with a ribbon this hung on the fish just fine.

Has it been decided who wants to play and who will be in charge of the game handing out magnets and lists so we know who to "tag" next ?

Welcome Michele and Family! Glad you can join us! :woohoo: Our family is also staying at the Radisoon by the Port the night before. Glad you got a great rate with Jet Blue.

I know you said you read some posts about it. But here's a great thread in case you didin't read it. My understanding is that you hang a "fish extender" outside of your door to use as a "mail pouch" for notes to one another and other disney fairies to leave little goodies in it. It's called a "fish extender" because there's a metal fish by the side of your door, that DCL uses to post items and then you put your little hanging thing to add your own "personal touch" and way to receive other items or for decoration.

Heres' the thread ... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607

Also to quote one another's post, you can press the "quote" button at the right hand bottom of the person's post and that will quote it in your reply. I often times edit out (with the delete button) the other stuff that doesn't pertain...but not sure if there's an easier way to do that. (i'm a newbie here too).

So regarding our meet & greet/tours....I think we settled on Day 2 at sea, but what's the time frame on that again? And how does it work?? I'm wanting some spa time that day and don't want to interfere with the chance to meet everyone. :yay:

Also do we still need more rooms to tour? We have two adjoining Cat 5 rooms on Deck 7, but not sure if those are too similar to what we already have scheduled.

Hi Woody, Posted this a while back, but didn't see a reply. So thought i'd post again..to see if i need to change my spa ressies.

Just a tangent...
On a request from someone else on the main board, I just "merged" the sound of the Magic's horn playing "When you wish upon a star" with a bit of the classic song...
If anyone wants to hear it - here is a link that will work for 7 days or 100 downloads...
When You Wish Upon A Star
:)

It keeps making me smile - so I thought I'd share!
:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

. . . Is there any place to buy a fish extender??
We bought ours at the dollar store (along with an over the door shoe holder and a pop-up laundry hamper). It's not as fancy as the ones sold on eBay or on theses boards, but the price was right.

I must have missed your post -- sorry.

I'll be happy to add your Cat 5 rooms to the Stateroom Tour. Thanks.

It looks like there's a strong preference to have the tour on Day 3 (the second day at sea), though been2marceline will have the final word since they are hosting the wine party.

Not to sound like a tyrant..... but Day 3 it shall be..... ;)

Sounds good! Are we also having a meet the first day of the cruise? Just a quickie before the drill. It's always so nice to put faces with board names. And then to start recognizing everyone around the ship.

Changing topics, anybody with a GTY get a room assignment yet? Or anyone get sprinkled upon by the upgrade fairy? Now that we are past final payment due. Last time I checked, there are at least 72 cabins (4-12) still listed as available. pixiedust: Here's a sprinkling of pixie dust for everyone.

You probably won't be given either a cabin # or upgrade until we're at least inside the 30 day window...
Most of those happen between 30 and 2 weeks out.

Yay on Day 3 for the tour and wine!!

We should have copies of the Eastern Navigators from the sail mid-October to use as a good guide for 'when to schedule' - since there are folks scanning and posting those for us from then.

:)

Well I haven't been able to post much here but am still sad to say we've had to change our reservation to another date. We've just had so much going on and this isn't working out to be good timing so I transferred our reservation to the Halloween Double Dip cruise in 08. Half the fun for me is all the pre-cruise excitement and being involved on the DIS boards which I haven't been able to do.

However, since we now live just 30 minutes from the port, we'll keep our eye out for some last minute Florida Resident Rates. And who knows... if things settle down a bit for us and the rates come out for this cruise, we could be back.

I was looking forward to joining some previous fellow cruisers (Laurie, etc) so maybe next time. Enjoy everyone.

On our last cruise, we were upgraded two nights before we sailed.

We have a cat12 guaranty as well and still no cabin number. If we were to try to upgrade at the port which level do we need to get a porthole in the room or better yet a verandah? What are the chances that we will be upgraded to a porthole room without paying the extra? Has anyone been this lucky?

Sorry to hear you go TiggerzFan - I'll update the spreadsheet this week - have fun on your double dip!!

Since we're still 66 days out - that's not a surprise! :)

Porthole is Cat 9 or above - with the exception being the 'secret porthole' rooms that are Cat10 and are usually long-booked by now!

Yes, people have gotten upgraded to porthole rooms from Cat12 - but don't count on anything - upgrades aren't automatic unless you've got 4 people booked into a Cat12, then Cat11 or better is automatic - but if you've got 3 people, your odds actually go down for getting upgraded.

Verandahs are Cat 7 or higher, with 7 being the Navigator's verandah.

But you never know! :)

Oh no Donna, we'll miss you too. But it looks like it could be good for those Florida resident rates, as there are still lots of cabins available. So hopefully we'll see you soon.
