November 10, 2007 - MAGIC - Eastern

They way that I understand it is that they won't pick your bags up at baggage check, but once you check in at the hotel, the hotel picks them up the next morning and brings it to the bus. Can any one confirm this?

Sharon

Sharon:

I can confirm this - we flew in the day before in March - BUT!!! Make sure NOT to put your DCL tags on your bags prior to flying... or they will go straight from the baggage area to the port without you!

I got the tip from an old hand at DCL cruising - so we kept our tags out until we got to the hotel - picked up our bags at the carousel, had the porter walk us over to the Airport Hyatt and checked in...
The lady at the desk was impressed that we hadn't made the same mistake as most people - because apparently what happens usually is that the bags go off to the port, and then have to come back, and you won't get them until 7-9 at night!

But then when you get to your room - put the DCL tags on the bags, and you can put them out in the hallway before you go to sleep or first thing in the morning and the Hyatt comes by and picks them up and takes them to the bus and they get to your cabin without any further problems! :)

OH! and another great tip - go to the store and buy some of those plastic zip-strips and use them to 'lock' your bags while they're in the hallway outside your hotel room - you can get them off with a pair of nail-clippers or small scissors. Just remember not to put them on before you fly or the TSA will cut them off.

Hi Lauri

How do you get your nice gowns and dress to the cruise without them being wrinkled. I find a garmet bag seems not to work everything seems wrinkled.

Also could my 8 year old wear nice shorts and polo on non semi and formal nights? What about my husband or even me on non formal and semi nights have you seen nice shorts and polo shirts? Not at Paolos

How old is your dh going to be. How do we embarres them mine will turn 9. THnaks Lynn

Just a suggestion - we bring a portable 'steamer' - it's about the size of a travel iron - and you just hang the dress or suit up, then use the steamer lightly and the wrinkles hang out of it.

Hey everyone,
Haven't posted in awhile, things have been kinda crazy. It's now been three months since Dsis and I lost our father, so things are just finally sinking in. I can't wait to get away to Disney and our first DCL trip. Sadly, I think DH and I won't have the money for too many excursion type things. Maybe we'll just do some beaching near the ship and some shopping. I dunno. I'm really hoping we'll get to do Palo (as my mentor has said this is a MUST do for us). We're all paid up now though. I believe our room is 2614 or something like that. Here's a quick question for ya'll...if you already have your room number, is there still a chance they'll bump you up into a better category? Just curious :p Anyways, hope everyone's having a good month.

You know - we're not doing a lot of "excursions" either. For one, it's the best time to be on the ship - everyone else is in port, so the Mickey pool is totally uncrowded, as are all the other parts of the ship! :)

Also because honestly, I'm there to cruise, not there to tour - if I were there to tour, I'd probably fly! :)
We'll probably do one tour on one of the Islands, stay aboard ship the other, and get off at CC - which is wonderful and inexpensive!

OH! But you MUST do Palo - so worth it!!! :)

Hey Folks,

We still need volunteers for the Stateroom Tour.

So far, we have:
Cat. 1 (Roy) - been2marceline (with wine party)
Cat. 3 - Parksfamily5
Cat. 6 - Stimpy (maybe)

We still need cabins in many more categories to make this a successful event.

Woody

We've got a Cat. 7 I can offer for the tour... not that much different than a Cat. 6 - but the Navigator's Deck Balcony is kind of neat to see.

:)

ok quick question for YOU guys...
So I got my husband to agree to go on the cruise and everything....and now the whole thing is paid off. Now he keeps saying he ain't going cuz he's afraid of being sick the whole week. I've talked to him over and over about how we'll take the pills and we'll be fine. But he's one of those guys that doesn't like taking pills pretty much ever. I just don't know how to get him excited about the cruise as much as I am! It's our first and I know he'll love it afterwards, but I need to get him excited too! I'm sure it'll be ok...i mean it's paid for and he's going if he likes it or not :p Just wanted your opinion.

My DH was the exact same way - and March was his first cruise ever (on the Wonder) so I had him take *1* Dramamine before we got on the ship, just in case... by that night he decided it wasn't bugging him at all, and stopped taking them - neither of us used it the rest of the time - but it was nice to have along in case of stormy seas! :)

Trust me... he'll get excited as it gets closer :)

Thanks Stimpy & Lauri!!
Excited to be here - as if you couldn't tell!!
Just went thru the whole thread and read everything - looks like we've got a GREAT group going!

I'm so excited!

It's also nice that there will be some other little girls my DD's age (4 1/2) on board... Kira *loves* the kid's club (she calls it 'my club' and the boat 'the Princess Boat') so we know she'll have fun there - but it will be fun for us to meet some other DISboarders this time - there were almost *none* on the Wonder in March... :P

Welcome Aboard Yndy! How fun to have you travelling with us! Maybe our kids will meet in the clubs ... Your little girl will be with my 3 year old triplets in the club.

That will be great!! :)

Kira absolutely LOVES the Club... sometimes she gets annoyed when she wants to go there and we aren't moving fast enough!

Thanks for the welcome everyone!
It's so nice to see such a big group of enthusiastic DISers are going on this one!

Thanks for adding us to the list too, Woody! Appreciate your being the ringleader for this wily bunch! :)

Snow: good to see you over here - I love the DIS boards, and it's neat to find you over here too!

Hey Woody - looks like double upgrades are happening a lot.

Which leads me to another issue, we need to change the stateroom tour, we are not in the Cat. 2 after all, we got bumped to the Roy.

Anyone got a Cat.2 for the tour?

We'll have the wine tasting in our suite, not sure which day yet, need to start scheming.....[/QUOT]

I just called to see if the Cat 2 was still available by any chance, but it was gone. Oh Well, Maybe sometime.:)

I noticed on the general board that someone mentioned that ALL Palo brunches were booked and they were unable to get one. How can this be if some of us newbies window has not even opened yet? Am I SOL? I am getting totally bummed out.......:guilty:

I can't get it right now... but then, we paid in full a bit later than the 90-day window...
They will have some spots available at the 75-day and some on board the ship the first day - because not everyone can or will pre-book online... so they hold out a few reservations! :)

Don't worry - you'll get a chance at it.

Any try to book this excursion and NOT been able to get it?

Cheryl,

This excursion shows available when I try to book it. PALO brunches are not available. But as I've said, we tried booking it last year when the 90 day booking window opened, and we were closed out. I tried daily to see if I could get ressies, but no luck. When we got on board, I got the exact ressies I wanted without difficulties. Good luck, but don't worry about it--they save half the ressies for onboard booking.

Lauri

So where are we on setting up the meet?
Any time set yet? Are we doing it day 2 - the first day at sea? or trying to get it in the first night?

Anyone? :)

We have a 4.5 yo DD ourselves! She will also have her 4 yo cousin Ella along...We too are in a Cat 7, but it is a Secret Nav Ver...6634, maybe we are neighbors!
