November 1, 2008 "Election Day Castaways!"

Well now that subject title got all your attention !! Other cruise lines I have visited do not allow the bringing onboard of alcohol. How is Disney with BYOB onboard? Also, anyone bring a case of water? We were allowed that on other cruise lines as a piece of luggage.

My DS7 is already discussing the "club" as he calls it. States it will be cool to be without the "parents and the pesky brother". :rotfl: Fair warning he's redheaded and Italian....gonna give the counselors a run for their money !! Thank god he's cute and a charmer.

Yes, the candy lines at MNSSHP are long - but they move quickly and usually hand out more than one thing. We only stood in line a few times - and managed to come home with more candy than we could eat. To make it even "sweeter", the Hershey people were outside the park "topping you off" and our bags were overflowing.

BTW, watch for kids who look green on the transportation and step away from the about to blow kids! All that excitement, candy and rides makes a lot of the tykes hurl chunks.

Thank-you!!I'm so glad to hear about the candy from another perspective (maybe my friend was in the wrong lines?) and for the heads up on those green kids!!:scared:

My girlfriend who was our maid of honor 22 (YIKES!!) years ago will be meeting us with her DH and girls, so she'll be happy to hear about it too! Sadly, I see her about once every 10 years, so I'm really happy she's coming!

I hear Disney is great about bringing alcohol, water, soda...whatever! I think we're going to wheel ours on in a softsided cooler when we stop in Key West- we're taking the Disney transport, so no car to go out in before hand. I'm thinking vodka, some wine, some water, maybe some rum.....

LOVE your pirate namespirate: ! Your door magnets sound great- I think I'm going to make a bunch of Mickey heads (I already got a bunch of the paint sample Mickeys from Home Depot) and print out others on the magnet paper I hear Walmart sells- somewhere on this thread is a very patriotic Election Day Castaways graphic that i'm sure I'll print....:goodvibes

So great your DS7 is talking about the cruise- in my house, noone wants to discuss it because it's so far away! I'm so grateful I have you guys!!:)

I remember seeing something about coolers weren't allowed unless it was for medical purposes....hmmm, they didn't say anything about it being for mental medical neccessity* :drinking:

I know there are a few liquor stores right off Duval St. on some of the side streets. A tad pricey so close to Mallory Square. There are a few small mom/pop stores too. If you like to try some "local" wine, they have the Key West Winery right on Front St. I've tried a few, not bad, but I'm not a wine person.

We need to get DCL to clarify what we can/not bring onboard. I would hate to lug it in and find out as I'm boarding I have to trash it.

I think it's hard coolers that are not allowed- lots of people talk about bringing soft wheelie ones- you know, the collapsible type?

"May I bring a personal cooler?

Personal coolers may not be brought onboard except for those needed for medications, baby food or items related to a dietary constraint."

I found this directly on their site....I'm going to call today to get clarification. DH has HepC and unfortunately even a change is drinking water messes with him ( iron content ) etc. So maybe we can get lucky with that one.

Here is a thread about coolers- www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1724096. I'm not especially concerned about it, though- I just thought it would be easier to wheel a case of water around Key West to the ship rather than carry it around! I hope your DH is feeling well!!

WOW !! My this could save me a ton of trouble on the trip. We have in the past taken 3 cases of Poland Springs water on the plane and then on the ship...what a pain in the $#%. I am sure I can get the limo driver to stop somewhere ( at a price ) on the way to ship. I'll pack the packing tape. My DS7 loves Capri Suns, and it's better for him than all that soda. Hmmm..new dilemma, do I rent car for day so I can shop for trip....YIKES:confused:

Most limo/towncar services will include a grocery stop. Check with your service, and if they don't allow a stop, hire someone else. Between Pop and the airport there are several grocery stores where you could pick up water, Capri Sun, etc. Between the airport and the port there really aren't too many places to stop.

Wow, LBIgirl/Lady Daquiri, you actually carried 3 cases of water on a plane! With the changes in airline luggage rules, and depending on when you bought your tickets you would have to pay an extra $25/case of water (considered extra checked baggage). United, and US Airways are forcing me not to overpack!

We actually got lucky with the water. We flew Southwest and was granted 2 checked bags per person. Being there were 4 of us it came to 8 checked bags and 4 carry ons.
We packed both boys into a very large suitcase with a squashed large duffel on top for bringing stuff home. I had one large bag and so did hubby. That still left 5 bags to check. We checked each case individually. That still left 2 bags which we were more or less not using. So I bought an empty suitcase and put all our kids homework etc. in it instead of hearing them complain of carrying it. It was also great for security purposes, less to worry about them losing or forgetting. We used that again, for bringing more 'JUNK' home. It was nice for the way home I had a dirty clothes suitcase that went straight to the laundry room and everyone else had a bag with their memories in them.
Southwest still grants 2 checked bags per passenger without an additional charge. Plus we usually fly for free (amex rewards) , so having to pay for an extra bag is still better than the original airfare.

The kids think it is for our upcoming trip to WDW @ spring break 08.

IF they only KNEW!!!

I guess that's one way on saving airfare.

Yep, there's a reason DW says I need a swat upside the head from time to time:lmao:

 Only eight months from today we'll be sailing on the Magic:banana:

Hi all! This will be are 3rd Disney cruise and we can't wait :cool1: ! There will be myself37, Dh42, dd14, ds13, dd&ds10, ds4, and dmil. In the past we have taken the kids out of school for vacations but the last cruise we went on before and after we had kids get sick and miss quite a bit of school so since then decided that it wiould be better to not do that anymore. Hope there are some others with kids around this age (especially 14, becuase it would be nice to have her get to know someone before hand so she isn't following us around the whole time AGAIN!! LOL. She didn't like the teen club so she hung out with us which was really fine because she helped me with the baby, but would love to see her get involved the way the other ones did. Well looking forward to getting to know all of you! Have a great day!

8 months from today we will be on the Magic

Yesterday's shopping adventure was less than stellar.

I found a couple of shirts & shorts :cool1: but not enough dressy shirts or skorts for the cruise.

Guess this means that I will have to make 1 more trip to the Outlet Mall before our 8 months are here :rotfl:

We are also sailing with our DD who will be 14 at the time of the trip. This is our second DCL cruise. Last time she stuck with us like glue and wouldn't go to the youth activities. Hopefully, this time with the choice of both Ocean Quest and the Stack, she will venture out to meet some people her own age on the ship.

I will be traveling with DS14 who is a Black Belt in Karate and a great friend to have around, especially for the girls, he's a great protector. :) He's also been voted funniest kid in the 8th grade this year....don't exactly know if that's good or bad :confused3 .

I also have a DS7 who is a fun loving, sometimes shy kid. He loves video games and as much as I hate the things, he is very good at them.

Welcome aboard Momofmmsd5 and family! Glad to have you along!
Your gang has been added to the list of "Election Day Castaways" on page 1.

It's true that I'm obsessed with this cruise. I've been looking forward to it for a long time. Lately, it seems all of our conversations turn toward the "Magic". Even today, on the way to swim team practice we're behind a car with an "I love LBI" sticker. Instantly, I turn to DD10 and tell her someone named "LBIgirl" is on our cruise! Oh, my...less than eight months to go.

LBIgirl...it's always good to have a friend who knows karate!

Plutospup - you rock! I moved states in the middle of planning for this trip and I have just started catching up and saw your great list. DD will be 7. The baby, who is not listed, will be 2. Yayyyyyy!!!!!! :goodvibes
