Nov 6, 2011 Mickey's Mexican Fiesta

I guess it's better to join the party late than to not join at all? :yay: We will be a party of 4: Me, DH, DS age 9 and DD age 4. This is our first Disney cruise. We have tried to keep it a secret but I think my DS is on to us. I don't know how well we have covered all of the slip ups!

A question for the Disney veterans:

1. What is the scoop on formal nights? I have heard that there aren't any "official" formal nights. I plan on dressing up for our reservations at Palo (because I never have an excuse to get that fancy! :cool2:) but my husband wants to know if he should pack his tuxedo for a formal night. He likes to wear it, but only if everyone else is spiffed up too.

Welcome! We have a 3 and 4 year old so hopefully they can hang out with your daughter at the club:) I'm always up for a game but have no idea what this Settlers game is about. Do share. As for formal night I am wearing a sweater dress and heels, DH in suit...nothing too fancy. I think I even forgot how to put makeup on lol!

Settlers of Catan is a (highly addictive) strategy board game for 4 players. I just asked my hubby how he would describe it and we couldn't think of a good comparison. Here is the description on Wikipedia :): "Players assume the roles of settlers, each attempting to build and develop their settlement while trading and acquiring resources. Players are rewarded points as their settlements grow; the first to reach a set number of points is the winner."

That description is rather dry for how fun the game actually is. The basic game (Settlers of Catan) is moderately easy to learn but we usually play an upgraded version (Cities and Knights) which is a little more time consuming to learn. We thought we would just see if there were any other addicts out there.

...just finished fixing the sleeves on a Snow White dress that I bought for my DD at a garage sale with this cruise in mind. That is the other costume that disappeared that she wanted to wear for Halloween! :rolleyes1

I have been counting down for months for this cruise but now that it is so close, I don't have time to get everything done!! I have only made two of my door magnets and my husband still hasn't found the sash for his pirate costume!!

I have forgotten how to put makeup on as well! But I am excited to fancy up. It has been several years since I gotten dressed up in something more than scrubs and jeans!

That sounds like me - I have so much to do. I have 15 shirts to embroider, 6 dresses to make, 2 boys bowling shirts to make, Fish Extender to make and I have to put finishing touches on my FE gifts. Plus I haven't started printing out magnets. :scared1: Good thing I am off work come Wed. morning. That gives me a week to get everything done, plus pack and clean the house. I hate coming home from vacation to a dirty house. It just makes everything much more depressing. Plus, laundry is awful right after coming home.

Course I also have to star in Rocky Horror a few of those nights. I am kind of dreading that. I have to sing LOTS of songs and I am not know for my singing abililtes. But I love being on stage acting so I gotta do, what I gotta do. I hope it goes well. Fingers crossed....

Hi all! This Disney Wonder sailing will be our first Disney cruise - very excited! But I'm a little intimidated by the whole Fish Extender tradition . I bought a FE online, but I don't think we're quite prepared for a full-scale FE gift exchange. Is there anyone that might be interested in just exchanging a couple of notes/drawings during the cruise rather than gifts?

We have a 9.5-year old boy (Tommy) and 6.5-year old twins (Amber and Connor), and they would get a kick out of finding something like a "welcome aboard" note, to which they'd want to reply. Maybe even something anonymous until the last day, almost like a "guess who I am" game. They would undoubtably already know each other from the Oceaneer's club/lab, which would make it part of the fun once unmasked, so to speak.

If there is anyone else going with similar aged kids (+/- a year or so), please let me know if you'd be interested in something small-scale like this. Our cabins are 6133 & 6135. Email me directly if you'd like, at tcanty2 "at" yahoo.com. Thanks! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the invite to the thread princesskayla. This is all a little overwhelming to me but here goes. We are traveling as a party of 12 but my family is a party of 4. DH, DD 6 and DD who will turn 3 on Nov.6. We are from Canada and never cruised or taken a family trip. I would have love FE as I am a paper crafter but maybe next time. We will be in DL 2 days prior and all we need is our park tickets and transportation from LAX. I could not keep the secret from my family and we are all so excited. We are doing the pirate ship in PV and the Mexican Fiesta and Folklore also know as the Mild Mexican Outback adventure in Cabo. I have red no reviews on the later so we may cancel. Can't wait to meet everyone. Only 16 more days!!

My plan is to tell them that we are running some errands (which they hate) and then when we have been in the car long enough that they wonder what is going on, we are telling them that we are going to Disneyland (which we will do on Saturday). Then the next morning instead of driving home, we are just going to drive to the port and let them see the ship. :cool1: No explanation will be necessary at that point!

They are very confused why I bought Pirate costumes but they are dressing up as something else for Halloween. I didn't want them to get ruined before our trip!

We have no problem dressing up (fancy or otherwise). On some of our last cruises we did "Creative Facial Hair Night" for the guys and "Ugly Sweater Night" for everyone. We go to dinner dressed up and the wait staff gets to declare a winner of the best costume, who then gets a small trophy. Unfortunately we couldn't get a big group to go with us this time so we won't be having any theme nights.

Is anyone interested in getting together for a Settlers of Catan game when our kids ditch us to go to the Oceaneer Club?

:welcome:

Hello everyone. This will be our first cruise as a family and also our first family vacation. My husband and I will be traveling with our 4 year old triplets. I am getting so excited and I am ready to start packing. I know there have been many previous posts but I have not had time to read through them all. Can anyone give me a quick rundown of what I should pack (I would like to pack a few things that go with the nightly themes)? Any cruise veterans that can give me hints for smooth sail? I am a bit nervous all five of us in a small room but I am also super excited. Thank you in advance and I look forward to meeting you all.

Disney Cruiseline's planning page has some basic packing info. It's not comprehensive, but it's a good start. The forum isn't letting me post the true link, so I'm going to put what I can below:

Wow...triplets, you sure have your hands full!! Boys/girls/both? I have a 4 year old son and 3 year old daughter and I thought I was busy lol! I am a first time Disney cruiser...husband and I love to cruise but we have never taken the kids so I don't know how much help I will be. From what I have read over the past months, here are a few items which sounded important:
-over the door organizer (for all the small stuff)
-power strip if you have quite a few things to charge/plug in
-plug in for nice smelling room
-extra hangers
-dollar bills to tip room service
-wrinkle release spray
-flashlight
-ziplock bags
That's all I can think of with only one cup of coffee in me!

We're also DVC (may have said that before). We originally used over 2 years' worth of points to book a week in London this past July. Circumstances (including gosh-awful high airfare in business class (for hubby's back)) prevented us from going. When we began research on how best to use so many points....VOILA...DCL!!!! And in 10 more DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May I say....WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I'd be happy to drop off a few goodies for your family!

I think our Group name should be Mickey's Mexican Fiesta! What do you think?

Awesome!!! I also love the banner at the start of the thread.

3:10pm on Sunday sounds like a great time. Let's plan on getting some group pictures in the foyer/lobby also.

Looking forward to sunny California even more today. We are having a nasty snow storm. We must have 5 inches already with lots of downed trees!!! Very unusual for NJ in October. i can only imagine what the winter will be like when it actually gets here. Disney, take me away!!!

Hi Everyone!

I was visiting Downtown Disney last night and thought I would stop by the Disneyland Hotel to see all the construction. Wow! The old pool is completely drained and they are doing something to it ...

Here take a look

I am just a little excited.

Sad news...I am taking a quick trip to Atlanta to put my dog, Bolt, to sleep. He has bone cancer and there is not much else we can do at this point. My kids are super upset. And I am not looking forward to flying from Alaska to Atlanta then LA - with a 2 year old:scared1:. It going to be a long couple of days!

Hi Ladies, so happy I found this thread. We are checking in at 1:30 on Sunday, sent an email to Hollywood Glitter to see if its too late for me to participate in the FE. If you can tell me what I will need that will be great, if its too complicated I understand we have 7 days to PACK!!!

Oh Joni! I'm sad with you. We have been there too many times (married nearly 29 years and many, many furry babies. Wish I could be there to hold you after... I will have an extra long hug ready for you. Cindy

Welcome Sand! I'd be happy to drop off some little surprises if you'll message me your cabin number and who's with you.

To all: I finished my FE today. Since I don't sew, I'm sorta waffly about how it came out, but my heart was in the right place. It's PERKY anyway!

Cindy
