Nov 3-12, 2006, is there something going on that I missed?

I just called reservations to switch our reservations from ASMo to Pop, and was completely shocked to find out that Pop was booked solid, no rooms available. (Also no suites available that week for ASMu, in case anyone's thinking about it). Is there some major event (or heaven forbid, the equivilent of Pop Warner) going on that week that I somehow missed that anyone knows about?

Well, the Food & Wine festival is still on, and it's popular. Super Soap weekend is the 11-12, and the New Jersey teacher's convention is 9-11. That week is known as 'Jersey week' because a lot of Jersey folks head for WDW, and some take kids out of school some extra days. We've been at that time before and didn't find it too busy, but I'd avoid MGM on Super Soap weekend.

Not sure what's going on in the earlier part of the month. Did you ask if Pop was booked the entire time or just some dates weren't available ...... it's always good to check that, because you might be able to book part of your stay there and keep calling back to look for additional nights.

As of right now there was only one night open, I think the Tuesday of that week, so I didn't want to risk staying at ASMo for three nights, moving for one, moving back for the rest of the trip, that would just be a headache if it didn't work out.

Cool, Jersey Week we can handle, the family's overlapped that once before (you're right, it wasn't that bad) and I'd thought I'd gotten us in and out of there in time to miss that. Oh well! :) And thanks for the heads up on SO Weekend, we'll be sure to get MGM out of the way before then!

Don't forget Veteran's Day - another long weekend around the 11-12.

We went last year over Jersey Week/Veteran's Day/Super Soap Weekend. We arrived on Wednesday and that and Thursday were great. By Friday, the parks were COMPLETELY packed!! We went to MGM and EPCOT on Friday and both were crowded; Saturday was the worst - we were at Animal Kingdom first, then went to EPCOT again. It was wall-to-wall people!

By Sunday, we went to Magic Kingdom, and the crowds were all gone. We could pretty much walk onto any ride we wanted. It seemed as though the people disappeared over night! :wizard:

But before that weekend, it was fine. So enjoy your trip and do as much as you can before the 2nd weekend in Nov!

We plan to, we'll have practically a whole week before the crowds start building by my measure and will be flying out again that busy Saturday. I'm figuring by Friday we'll probably be more than happy to just walk around and sit waiting for any shows we missed, or hit DTD or TL instead of going to the parks themselves. :)

We are going to be there Nov 9 to the 18th. I knew that the 11th and 12th would be packed because of Soap weekend and festival of the masters but I was hoping that by the 13th it would start to clear out.... Has anyone else been during this time? I am also planning to get tickets for the MVMCP on the 13th, it looks like so much fun.

This is interesting. After I read your post, I got worried because I'm scheduled to be at POP during that exact same time. If they are going to be that packed, I was going to move my trip. I got on-line and tried to book another reservation for the same time -- it went through without a problem -- quoted me the exact price that I paid.

I do have an idea though. A couple of months ago, we changed our reservations from the Caribbean Beach to the POP. At that time, she said there was no opening at the the POP. I asked her to check all of the values, and she said there was no opening at any. I knew that was not right and asked what was going on that they were that busy. She put me on hold and came back about 15 minutes later. My trip was booked in November of 2005 -- the computer was checking for availability in 2005 not 2006. Once she manually changed the dates, there were plenty of openings.

I would echo that. We returned from a DCL cruise the next week and the difference in crowds was noticable. It was the last week of the food and wine at Epcot too.

I just plugged your dates into the online booking engine and came back with availability for POP.

There are suites in ASMu??

They're family suites, yes. I think there's six of them (?) and they are very new.

Gah, now I'm going to have to call back today and see what's going on, maybe I just got a CM who was a bit overtired, lol.

*grumbles loudly* Okay, I just called them back, and they verified that there are no availabilities at Pop for those dates. Folks who were able to see availability online, was that through the main Disney site or are you checking through outside agencies?

November 9th and 10th is Teacher's Convention Weekend here in NJ which means all schools are closed. So you could pull your children out for 3 days and make a week out of it - hence the term Jersey Week!

It was Disney's web site.

Yep, i just tried it too, and perseverence pays off, I got my resort changed! Since I got a lot of useful info I'll update it on the resort board.

Thanks for everyone's help!

We're going that week, blame us! In our school district in New Jersey not only are the kids off Thursday and Friday for the teacher's convention, schools are closed Tuesday for Election Day too, so they get a week at Disney in the off season for just two days out of school.

Sometimes Disney sells huge blocks of rooms to the other online booking companies (Travelocity, Hotels.com, etc...).

I was having trouble on Disney website getting rooms for Pop in April this year, but found them no problem at all on other websites for my dates. Ultimately, I did book directly through Disney website, because they seemed to open up some rooms. I just kept trying several times a day until I could get rooms.

I'm not sure how that would affect if you could purchase Dining Plan or anything like that. Might want to check with Disney before you book through another company.
