Are the Osbborn light on after the Fantasmic show? Will there be time befor the park closes>

When I was making my schedule out for next month, I know I planned to see the lights first and then go to Fantasmic. For some reason I have in my mind that the lights are one from 6 to seven? Perhaps someone else can tell you for sure.

In the past, they have been on after Fantasmic but you may not have much time to see them depending on when the park officially closes for the day.

The Osborne Lights attraction presented an unusual
problem for MGM.
When they were "acquired" by Disney from the Osborne
family (not OZZIE, BTW) there was a huge amount of
national publicity about them.
Disney got a lot of "mileage" out of having them and
they needed to DISPLAY them for lots of guests to see
(after dark).
But...
Even in the winter months, it simply does not get
really DARK in Florida until about 6pm.
So the lights can't be properly viewed until that
time.
(They simply are NOT a daytime or even "regular hours"
attraction).
And the MGM park usually closes (except EMH) only an
hour or so after dark.

Since Disney spends a major (MAJOR) amount of time and
money to set-up, promote, fund the electricity and
CM's and (after the holidays) remove and store these
hundreds of thousands of lights, they needed a way
that guests could actually VIEW them.
(Otherwise, what's the POINT?)

So since, at sunset, MOST (up to 10,000) guests in MGM
are SITTING IN THE FANTASMIC! THEATER and can't SEE
the lights as it gets dark... AFTER the show, the CM's
actually ENCOURAGE the exiting crowds from Fantasmic!
to go over and see the Osborne Lights.
Even though the rest of the park is closed, the lights
are in full glory, and there are even some concessions
open for refreshments.

The info that keeps getting posted (same one or two
posters, by the way) that says guests were stopped
from going to see the OLights after Fantasmic! is
accurate as well.
There are some nights when the OLights are being used
for a private "event" and regular guests are not
allowed in.
You simply will not KNOW about this unless you stop at
Guest Relations that day and ask if the OLights will
be available after Fantasmic!

As for how late?
If Fantasmic! is at 7pm, then its over at 7:25pm, most
guests are out of the theater by 7:50pm and headed to
the Osborne Lights.
I'd estimate that they would keep the OLights open for
a hour-plus, so, say 9:15pm-9:45pm would be the
approx. wrap-up.

How late do the busses run after park closing?

The buses operate with the mission that no one will be left "stranded" at the parks.

I went back to the Disney site to see if I could find times listed for the Lights and it lists the times as 6 to 8 p.m. from Nov. 13 to Dec. 7. The 8th they are listed as open from 6 to 7 and then back to 6 to 8. I would hate to miss them by counting on seeing them after Fantasmic and then either not being allowed back there or it the line being so slow you couldn't get in before they closed. The Unofficial Guide said the lines were horrendous.... My plan is to see them as soon as they start - if it is too light to see them well then I will try again after Fanstamic - but am hoping not to be in that big crowd of people...

Last year we saw the Osborne Lights the first night they were on right after Fantasmic. We were back there for at least an hour and the Cast Members were not rushing people out. Because it was the first night, I don't think a lot of people realized the lights were on yet. Crowds were light. It was a great time!

It seem funny that Disney has most thing's "Down to a Science" and this is a Glitch???????? :sad2:

Why do you think its a "glitch"?

I think its amazing that they make accomodations for both.

They can't start-up the OLights or Fantasmic! until after it gets dark.

Since Fantasmic! is such a huge "draw" and most people want to be seated very early in order to be sure to see Fantasmic!, Disney makes the OLights available AFTER Fantasmic! (and after the park is "officially" closed) on many nights.

That way guests are not forced to choose one or the other when at MGM.

If it was a "glitch" they would simply not bother to staff the OLights at all after park hours.
