Well I got an email back from my TA today. We booked our trip last September or early October. My TA said the way
DCL works it, they determine weather or not you will pay a fuel surcharge based on the price of oil for THAT quarter that you book it in. SO, Oil was up last September (just before the markets crashed), and thus we paid the charge. Disneynewbee, you booked during a quarter when the price was down, thus you did not have to pay. Here's where I feel DCL gets UNFAIR,,,,, Once you come to your actual trip quarter (today for our cruise), If the cost of oil is below $70.00 those who paid the surcharge will get an OBC for that amount. If the cost is 70 or above, those who paid, will NOT get an OBC, and there is not additional cost for those who did not pay it in the first place. BUMMER!
BUT, at least the amount is not astronomical. For our family of 6, we paid a total surcharge of $150.00. That would have been a nice OBC, would have helped towards an excursion, but if oil prices today stay up, it's not a HUGE loss at least. Not going to let it get me down, I'm too excited about this trip to give it more than a moments gripe!
I've started making my pirate costumes, that wil keep me busy today, plus housecleaning for a meeting I'm hosting here this afternoon. I made a TO DO List for must have dones before we leave in less than 6 weeks, and amazingly, I already have a number of things crossed off on that list! WOO HOO!
